The Joanne Avison Podcast
Joanne Avison
The Joanne Avison Podcast is a journey into Spiritual Science, examining the sacred geometry of human form and motion and how the Fascia Matrix changes all we thought we knew about human bodies. Reflecting on her rich experience as a movement and manual therapy practitioner, Certified Archetypal Consultant, ordained minister and Doctor of Spiritual Science; Joanne challenges our assumptions of human anatomy, and asks us to consider the "Humans Being" as intimately relating "soma to soul" such that they can't really be useful separated. Joanne animates the true meaning of practical spirituality and the patterns of (our) body and being as one!! Told through artful storytelling and conversations with scientists, researchers, teachers, clients and curious fellow beings; this podcast will spark your curiosity of humans “being in bodies”, and inspire your life-long inquiry into who you really are.

Dr Karen Kirkness on spiral anatomy, spinning many plates, and being human
The Joanne Avison Podcast
02/27/24 • 41 min
Welcome to the second episode of this new season, in which I interview the wonderful Dr Karen Kirkness!
Karen is a yoga practitioner and recovering academic. Her book, Spiral Bound: Integrated Anatomy for Yoga, provides a rationale for curating movement practices that are led by the rotational constraints of the body. In this podcast (recorded in 2023 before Karen was rightfully awarded her PhD) we share our admiration for each other’s work and our fascination with spiral anatomy.
If you are a movement teacher or manual practitioner; if you are a mother, a daughter, a husband, a son, a father, a friend or a professional colleague, if you juggle and spin one hundred plates on sticks – (ie, if you have a pulse) – then there is magic in this conversation for you too. It is published in celebration of Dr Kirkness’s work, and in loving appreciation of her contribution to the world.
I hope you enjoy us enjoying each other as much as we did!
Joanne

Myofascial Magic: The Automagically Fabulous Pelvic Foot
The Joanne Avison Podcast
04/16/24 • 26 min
Paul and Joanne share their experience and stories about pelvic issues, how they affect so many of us, and... how misunderstood they might be! How can we “rephrase” our understanding of the mythical “Pelvic Floor” and discover the magic of releasing the Pelvic Foot?
This is not a made up idea, by movement instructors who didn’t like learning anatomy! Paul talks about the key science behind this structural understanding of the human body. Effectively, you have a pelvic foot – not a pelvic floor... It’s true, and magic happens when you know that, know how to treat that and know how to move so that you can enjoy freedom from so many issues that are usually assigned to the “pelvic floor”.
There are many elements in Myofascial Magic that we can bring to the table (or mat or machine when we are teaching) that will automagically enhance all kinds of issues!
