Day 20 in Thailand (The Industry Is So Much Bigger…)

Day 20 in Thailand
(The Industry Is So Much Bigger...)
Being an art-based business owner and a professional jeweler working in the industry for over 10 years, I Have seen a lot of “The Industry,” or so I thought! It wasn’t until getting to Thailand that I realized, what I thought was the industry is just a tiny segment of the huge beast! Pick a small external part of the body, say a fingernail, ear, or eyeball. That part of the body is what we are all thinking our respective “industries” are. The issue is that we are blinded by what we see. We think because we see so much, we know the hole story. Really, we only ever see most of that one part. It takes time and energy to see, learn, and experience more. We all need to find out more about our respective industries! This ABSOLUTELY gives us new ideas and ways of looking at things. New ways to solve old problems and new problems that are being solved in unique ways! You know when you found something good when you feel small in comparison to the whole! Look for the person behind the screen. Learn from them and what they have done!

Implementation is Key!
The Jeweler's Philosophy
09/30/20 • 24 min
Sometimes we find ourselves in this learning loop or “Analysis Paralysis” Robert T. Kiyosaki. Don’t fall into the trap of constantly collecting information. At some point you need to stop collecting and start implementing. Implementation is the practical application of information. This is the only way to “test” what you’ve gathered and see if it works. These are the 2 components of learning. You need both to TRULY LEARN! Don’t shortchange yourself by only focusing or doing one aspect of the learning process! GO OUT AND IMPLEMENT MORE!!

Taking Chances Can Be Fun!
The Jeweler's Philosophy
11/04/20 • 28 min
As artists we love taking chances with our work. We’re always trying to push the bounds of what’s possible and what our reality can be. For me, the big push or driving force to embrace and take these chances is the, possibility of making something truly great! Why is it then other aspects of our lives especially our businesses do we not have the same love for taking chances? The potential payoff remains the same: “the possibility of making something truly great!” Why is it that we can take chances in one aspect and completely disregard the chances in another? I hope this episode helps you with this dilemma in your head.

Document Everything-Photo Shoot
The Jeweler's Philosophy
12/14/20 • 14 min
As artist we spend our days doing very different things in the majority of people. I know that I felt in the past that some things that I do or mundane or boring. The more I’ve documented my day-to-day over the last two years, I figured out even the things that I think are boring in my job are not boring to other people! As a result, I document as much of my day as possible. I’m not sure if or when I’m going to use all of this, though knowing I have it and the ability to use it is the key. Listen to this episode you’ll see what I mean!
Enjoy!

The Artist Personality Type Pt. 1
The Jeweler's Philosophy
01/25/21 • 18 min
This mini-series “The Artist Personality Type” were originally, two long recordings. I’ve broken them up for you into multiple episodes that focus on one specific topic in this epiphany.
Part 1:
As Artist we feel happiness differently than most people! I’ve been thinking a lot about the artist personality type after hearing Alex Charfen talk about his podcast Momentum. If in your life you have had unexplainable mood swings or feel depressed when everything around, you are going well... this may answer a lot of those questions! I know it did for me and my wife. Listen to this episode and I hope it helps you.

Lifestyle Design and How It Can Change Your Life! Pt1
The Jeweler's Philosophy
02/08/21 • 29 min
This idea of “Lifestyle Design” is something I learned from Tim Farris’s book the 4-hour work week. I lay out what it is and how we as artist can use it to our benefit. In this first part of a longer recorded rant I talk about how we as a society (at least the US) think incorrectly about our goals. I lay out some of the misconceptions of achieving the things that you want, your goals. I shed light on this idea, that we as people have to put off the things that we really want our “desires”, because we need to pay our dues first. I hope we can all see how backwards, incorrect and damaging this line of thinking actually is.

Custom Work, Either You Love It or Hate It!
The Jeweler's Philosophy
02/22/21 • 33 min
Custom Work, do you love it or hate it? There’s good money and great growth as an artist and business owner in this line of work! As someone that has spent about 6 years, full time in this realm of custom work, there is a lot to talk about here. Custom or commissioned work was a huge aspiration of mine early on in my jewelry career. Though it has its own rules, I hope this episode helps you get over your fears and preconceived ideas or reaffirms your interest in going after custom work. It’s hard getting over our art as art, while at the same time bending to meet others desires. Push yourself to grow and get payed along the way!

Life Goes in Stages
The Jeweler's Philosophy
11/20/20 • 28 min
As people on a path, journey, or traveling through life, our focus shifts and changes with events in our lives! We give our attention to things at certain points in our lives that we may not have in the past. Just because we are focused on one thing and not another doesn’t mean that “the others” are not important. Nor does it mean that we have moved past them or no longer need them. Rather it means that the things we were previously focused on may not need “the handholding” they once did. They simply just may not need “the work” at this time. This is when they make the transition from being things we are “working on” to things we can “rely on.” These things become part of your foundation. You can always come back and work with them or on them later! They are not gone, rather they are part of your arsenal! Don’t be afraid if what you are focused on, is different then it once was... it will all circle back!
Enjoy!
