EXPO and Inland: Transportation Events
08/22/23 • 40 min
The month of September brings two major events on the transportation calendar: IANA's Intermodal EXPO and the Journal of Commerce (JOC) Inland Distribution Conference. On this episode, we learn about each of these gatherings, with IANA Chief Operating Officer Rob Cannizzaro taking us through the programming at the Intermodal EXPO in Long Beach and JOC Senior Editor Ari Ashe returning to the show to discuss Inland - taking place in Chicago.
Both events offer valuable networking opportunities, education and programming with speakers & panels making them well worth attending - including a panel at Inland with our own President Shelli Austin called How Domestic Intermodal Is Addressing Service for the Next Surge and one at EXPO with our CEO Rick LaGore (and past podcast guest Kristy Knichel) titled IMCs: A Primer.
Intermodal EXPO runs from Sept. 11-13 at the Long Beach Convention Center. Learn more and register at https://intermodal.org/intermodalexpo.
The JOC Inland Distribution Conference takes place Sept. 25-27 at the Westin Chicago River North. Learn more and register at https://events.joc.com/inland.

Connecting the Continent
Earlier this year, a merger between Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern railways formed the Class I railroad now known as CPKC. Of particular note about this combined company is a first that it's created: single line service connecting all of North America - as in, Canada, the United States and Mexico. CPKC Director of Business Development for Domestic Intermodal Melanie Kunz joins us to discuss what this service means and how it's especially changing the game for produce and protein transport.
She also shares advantages intermodal and rail transport provide particularly in border crossing scenarios, including not only security but also speed. And we go over CPKC's testing of hydrogen fuel cell locomotives as part of their efforts to further reduce the climate impact of freight.
