197: Battlefield V, Fallout 76 and Gamer's Holiday Gift Guide 2018

We've played many hours of the full version of Fallout 76 and we talk about how this game really did with changing the game introducing a new idea to the Bethesda franchise. Also, Battlefield 5 comes out today but with the Origin Premier pass, Brett has had it for about a week. He's played through most of the single player and all of the multiplayer game modes. Is this game worth the buy in? Listen and find out!

In our news, we chat about Valve giving a lot of money to a hacker who found a bug that gives free codes. Cliff Blezinski swears off making games forever and the Switch reaches 1000 games. Command & Conquer is returning with remastered editions (we can't wait), Microsoft may be planning for a discless console and Sony is seriously not attending E3 next year.

Fallout 76 releases tomorrow by the time you listen to this podcast in most places and it's a daring risk for Bethesda Game Studios. Will it capture old and new fans alike? It's attempting to be a co-op, online Fallout universe set in West Virginia. Play with your friends, survive and battle others as you prepare for your next mission. Battlefield V is also available for those with the Premier pass, including Brett. He shares his thoughts on multiplayer after having played several of the new maps and whether or not this is a true return to WWII.

In our news segment, there is more backlash from Diablo Immortal, Destiny 2 is not performing to Activision's expectations and the composer for Dragonball Z was elected to Texas Senate.

We also discuss Microsoft XO18 featuring some cool new announcements from Xbox such as new games for the Game Pass, lots of new content updates and a few surprises. Our favorite surprises included a release date for Crackdown 3, a new PVP mode for Sea of Thieves and the reveal of Void Bastards.

198: Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu, Enter the Gungeon & the State of the Gaming Industry

We take a trip back to Kanto with Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu. This is a new Pokemon RPG game and the first full game for the Switch with Pokemon (aside from Pokken). In this game, it’s mostly a remake of the original Red, Blue and Yellow but in full 3D. It’s a bit toned down from the originals and not as challenging, but still immensely fun as Brett explains in his impressions. Austin also dives deep into the dungeon with Enter the Gungeon. On sale on the Switch, he talks about how much fun he’s having with this game on the Switch and why everyone should pick it up for such a good price.

In our news, Remedy’s former CEO starts a new studio focused on “underserved” markets and celebrities are frustrated with Fortnite for selling emotes about their dances or moves from tv shows or rap videos. We also revisit women in Battlefield V and share our opinion on how we may agree with them not being in the game but for a much different reason than historical accuracy. Instead, we’re talking about the violent treatment to not just men, but women since you can play as both genders in these war zones.

Finally, our discussion explores some topics brought up in a great discussion between games journalist Jason Schreier and Youtube Influencer YongYea. We talk about gamer rage, consumerism, developers and publishers in gaming and where the future of gaming is going.
