The Ink That Molds Us

Peter Orzechowski

“And I remembered. I would not be the person I am without the authors who made me what I am- the special ones, the wise ones, sometimes just the ones who got there first. It's not irrelevant, those moments of connection, those places where fiction saves your life. It's the most important thing there is.”
― Neil Gaiman
The Ink That Molds Us is about the influential gravity of books and the power they hold to shape and mold us. It's a podcast mostly about storytelling and how great works of literature can teach us wonderful truths through their wisdom. Each episode will pick up and observe books that contrast and compliment each other with the intention of getting us to take a closer look at our own lives and begin to see the ink that molds us.

Although as children we knew what we wanted to be when we grew up, many of us find it a bit harder now to be guided by that same confidence. Big Fish by Daniel Wallace and Don Quixote by Miguel De Cervantes teach us about the stories we tell others about who we are, but also the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, and how each narrative we tell influences who we become. Super heroes hold a special place for us. They are the ones that stood out from the crowd and overcame great obstacles to get there. And we all envy their triumphs. Perhaps we are closer to them then we think. In this episode we dive into Howard Pyle's Robin hood and a childhood favorite of mine, Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey. Together, these stories tell us what true heroes look like. This is The Ink That Molds Us

Home can be a warm and welcoming haven. Something that brings comfort and rest to long journeys, while also providing us with foundational tools that make us who we are. In this episode we will explore L. Frank Baum's long lived classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as well as Neil Gaiman's novel The Graveyard Book. Each story will give us a unique prospective on the importance of home and how often we can find sanctuary in the most unlikely places. This is The Ink That Molds Us

Nature, memories, nostalgia; these are sacred and pure themes that we find as we take a walk along the trails of life. What we find can be breathtaking, inspiring, bittersweet, and even hard to swallow at times. The Wind and the Willows by Kenneth Grahame and Watership Down by Richard Adams are both stories that can makes these view a little bit more clearer. This is The Ink That Molds Us.

In this very first episode of The Ink that Molds us we explore the concept and intrigue of Imagination. We pick up J.M. Barrie's classic story of Peter Pan, as well as Stephen King's novel, IT, in the hopes of magnifying this tool that we've had ever since we were children.
