The (in)courage Podcast
(in)courage
Welcome to the (in)courage podcast! We are all different ages, in different life stages, and we come from different cultures and churches, but our common thread is the hope of Jesus. Each weekday we meet you right where you are as one of our writers shares what’s going on in her everyday life and how God’s right in the middle of it all. We bring our joys and struggles equally so that you can feel less alone, and be empowered by the hope Jesus gives. We hope you’ll bring us along with you on your morning walks, driving to the grocery store, waiting in the preschool pickup line, alone in your kitchen, or as you wind down for the evening. Wherever you join us, you’re welcome here, and we’re honored to be a part of your day.

Kayla Craig: Seasons Change, and So Should We
The (in)courage Podcast
08/12/24 • 6 min
"When I read my Bible, I feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland, opening doors and going down rabbit holes, often finding more questions than answers. The more I learn, the more I wonder. The more I wonder, the more I learn. A life walking with Christ is comforting yet often confounding. The more we embrace a posture of Christian curiosity, the more our worlds get, as Lewis Caroll put it, curiouser and curiouser.
You are allowed to change your mind. You don’t have to draw lines in the sand and dig in your heels."

Robin Dance: A Stranger, Spilled Coffee, and Blessings in Disguise
The (in)courage Podcast
01/15/24 • 7 min
"Often, blessing others simply requires prayer and intention. When you encounter someone whose delight is in the Lord, you know it. You’re drawn to their light like a moth to a flame. It’s not just because there’s something particularly wonderful about that person; it’s because you’re drawn to the Holy Spirit working in and through them.
The allure of an unbridled Holy Spirit in you is magnetic... undeniable... inescapable. Way too often I get in the way, talking myself out of whatever that divine prompting is nudging me to do. Do you know what I mean? So, what can we do to be bolder in our faith, bring glory to God, and bless those around us in the process?"

Kathi Lipp: It's Time to Redefine Helper in a Biblical Marriage
The (in)courage Podcast
04/30/24 • 7 min
"The word "helper" in Hebrew (ezer) does not imply subordination but rather a partnership. I had been taught that God created Eve as a "helper" for Adam (Genesis 2:18). But what I had not been taught was that the word "helper" in Hebrew (ezer) does not imply subordination but rather a partnership. In fact, ezer is the same noun used in Psalm 33:20 to describe God as “our help and our shield.”
When you start to see yourself as not just someone who makes life work for others, but as a partner to create the kind of life you both want? Everything changes."

Simi John: Don't Stay on the Mountaintop
The (in)courage Podcast
11/17/23 • 6 min
"We crave the mountaintop experiences but we cannot create our homes there. What if the purpose of the mountaintop moment was not to simply post something pretty on social media, but to teach us to look beyond the now and to stir up our faith in Him for the future? What if we are supposed to draw strength from our mountaintop moment to keep going in the valleys?"

Michelle Reyes: You've Got God, and God Will See You Through
The (in)courage Podcast
03/04/24 • 6 min
"God will never abandon you in your time of grief. When you feel completely alone in this world, turn to God’s Word for comfort.
When the tears won’t stop, turn to God to dry your tears.
When you feel like you’ve utterly hit rock bottom, turn to God for hope.
He’s there with you, in the fallow season, whispering in your ear, “I’ve got you. You’re going to be OK.”
This might not feel like encouragement right now, but someday you’ll look back on what you’re going through and see how God sustained you."

Mary Carver: God Isn't the One Stressing You Out
The (in)courage Podcast
08/24/23 • 6 min
"While He is perfect, God is not a perfectionist who expects us to be perfect. God knows our limits and rather than hate them (or hate us for them), He promises to love us and help us. And when He reminds us that our days are short and advises us to redeem the time we’ve been given, He’s not dropping an oversized backpack of responsibilities over our shoulders. He’s not chaining us to a calendar or to-do list or some ideal version of ourselves while pointing to a ticking clock. He’s offering us a hand up, a light yoke that shares the burden. He’s offering us relief — from the rapid passage of time, from the ever-growing list of expectations we subscribe to, from the belief that we must make everything priority-one and cram it all into 24 hours a day."

Look to Me; turn to Me. I am Your help.

Melissa Zaldivar: Taking Another Route
The (in)courage Podcast
02/16/23 • 6 min
"We belong to one body, sisters. So let's not put married above single or single above married. Singleness is a thousand joys and a thousand small griefs and to say that I'm a season (behind?) or a stage (before?) is minimizing at best and insulting at worst.
So I am here to humbly request that we start using a new turn of phrase: What if we spoke of our friends as if they're on different routes? "

Episode 18: Turkey Talk, Compassion, and Inconvenience
The (in)courage Podcast
11/25/21 • 24 min
Welcome to the (in)courage podcast! Today, listen in as (in)courage and DaySpring team members Anna and Joy share stories from Thanksgivings past, discuss the story where Jesus feeds thousands of people with just seven loaves and fishes, and the ways in which kindness can look a lot like inconvenience (in a really good way).
You'll also hear an excerpt of the Bible study from special guest Aliza Latta! She reads her very timely story of a Thanksgiving she won't forget from Week 4 of the Courageous Kindness Bible Study, which you can also read here.
Finally, hear a selection from the Bible Study companion videos! These video discussions feature (in)courage writers Lucretia Berry and Grace P. Cho alongside study author Becky Keife, and they offer us a seat beside them in the living room as they go through Courageous Kindness together. Watch the videos in full anytime.
We hope you'll also join the discussion in our online Bible study right here! Yep, we’re going through Courageous Kindness both on the podcast AND as an online community, and you’re invited to both. Join us!
