We Need To Talk About Harold
The Improv Chronicle Podcast
09/08/20 • 19 min
As a form, the Harold is lauded by some and treated less reverentially by others... there’s no doubting that it’s had a huge impact on improv but, all these years since it was first invented, how relevant - and how watchable - is it now?

Has "Yes And" Become Outdated?
The Improv Chronicle Podcast
12/18/19 • 17 min
The concept we call Yes And has been at the heart of improv and at the heart of how improv is taught for decades. There are books about it, and the phrase is synonymous with improv. The basic idea is that you say yes to what your partner is offering and then add to it. More recently, Yes And has been questioned. Some improv schools don't teach it anymore. Has Yes And as a theory run its course? Or it is still relevant to how we teach and perform improv?

The Mantra Of Support
The Improv Chronicle Podcast
12/03/19 • 21 min
What do we mean in improv when we talk about support and how do we quantify what on stage support and off stage support is needed in our art form. As the number of shows and teams grows around the world, how much do we have each other's backs and how useful is it for us to be saying that we must support other people's moves on stage and other people's shows?

Do We Really Need Warm-Ups?
The Improv Chronicle Podcast
11/20/19 • 12 min
If there's one thing that can divide a group of improvisers quickly, it's the subject of warm-ups. Some people hate them and don't want to do them. Some people love them and could happily warm-up for an hour before tackling a scene. How much warming up do really need to be good at improv and how much difference does it make to an ensemble if they don't warm up?
