The Imperial Scrolls of Honor podcast is comprised of two retroheads, longtime friends Jae Baxtron and Josh Folan, who are analyzing the formative years of the console gaming scene through the prism of early issues of Nintendo Power, Sega Visions and GamePro. Jeff Burns (i.e. JAB) stops in on occasion to bullshit about RPGs when we dig into a SIDEQUEST.

Podcast Q&A

Which episode should someone start with?

We are going through these game mags in their newsstand date order, starting with Nintendo Fun Club News in 1987, so if you can stomach the lackluster audio quality we were rolling out until we leveled up on that front around episode 60 we recommend you start all the way back at the first Instruction Manual and join us on the full journey.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

We put a lot into all our episodes, but there’s something about our granular approach that really lends itself to the RPG genre and, in turn, our enjoyment of analyzing them in our SIDEQUEST series.

What is your vision for your show?

The Imperial Scrolls of Honor podcast is comprised of two retroheads, longtime friends Jae Baxtron and Josh Folan, who are analyzing the formative years of the console gaming scene through the prism of early issues of Nintendo Power, Sega Visions and GamePro. Jeff Burns (i.e. JAB) stops in on occasion to bullshit about RPGs when we dig into a SIDEQUEST.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

The Imperial Scrolls of Honor are where your Erdrick descendent’s deeds are recorded when you save your game in the early Dragon Warrior titles, and we view these early game mags as having the same historical significance in our quest through gaming history.
