The Holistic Navigator
07/19/19 • 34 min
Few things are as important as the health of your baby, but finding trustworthy information about the do’s and don’ts while pregnant can be difficult. Opinions abound when it comes to health and everyone pretends to be an expert. Pregnant women are often told to take a prenatal vitamin or fish oil with little to no direction about proper dosing, sourcing, or ingredients.
Meet Cady:
Fortunately, we have people like Cady Kuhlman who are passionate about holistic, natural prenatal health. Cady has a Master’s of Holistic Nutrition and has been a part of this industry for the better part of 10 years. She’s expecting her own little one soon and truly practices what she preaches. If you’re pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant, this episode is packed full of useful knowledge to help your body function at it’s best.
Some Topics We Discussed:
- What is the prenatal core 4 supplement plan? (5:42)
- What to look for when you’re buying prenatal vitamins? (11:46)
- Why is fish oil so important in pregnancy and how to choose a good product? (19:40)
Key Takeaways From This Episode:
- Folic acid is synthetic. Folate is natural. (7:32)
- Look for actual certifications on product labels to ensure it’s not false advertising. (12:17)
- 70 to 80% of Americans are deficient in vitamin D so we need to supplement with it. (15:56)
- Most studies are showing around 2000 milligrams of omega threes daily for before getting pregnant and during pregnancy. (25:17)

Brian Strickland 00:11 Hey gang, welcome back to another episode of The Holistic Navigator Podcast, where we believe in the body's ability to heal itself. My name is Brian Strickland. I'm the producer of the show. And today we've got another fantastic episode lined up for you. We're speaking with Cady Kuhlman all about prenatal care for moms to be and the babies they're carrying. Few things are as important as your baby's health. And that's exactly why we wanted to address some of the misconceptions behind prenatal health, including what nutrients moms should focus on getting, how to pick out safe and quality prenatal supplements, and what role a healthy diet and nutrition plays while pregnant. I'm gonna keep my part short and sweet here. So without further delay, here's the host of this show, Ed Jones.
Ed Jones 01:27 Thank you so much, Brian. I look so forward to coming in doing this podcast, The Holistic Navigator, I am excited about today, we are going to be talking about something that's near and dear to my heart, which is the lack of information or wisdom that is being presented to pregnant women, and those who are wishing to be pregnant. You know, the medical field and again, I'll continue to repeat, I don't hate the medical field or the people in it. What I despise is the fact that it's a broken system. It's a sick care system, not a healthcare system. And the people who are in it are generally wonderful, smart, loving and wise. But they only have a toolbox that they were given based on their experiences and training. And one of the worst is when women who are pregnant, seek their nutritional advice from their normal conventional physicians and health care people. And why do I say that? Because the studies today are very clear about the impact of nutrition on the developing fetus and the life of that baby after it is born. In fact, in 1970, autism was one in 2,000. And this year, it is one in 59. Nothing can be affecting that except nutrition and toxins. That's the only two things. Well today we have a guest that who is very experienced in the field of nutrition, and especially into prenatal nutrition care, because one is she's only three weeks away from delivering her first child. And also because she spent so long studying this whole subject. So welcome Cady Kuhlman.
Cady Kuhlman 03:23 Thank you. Thanks for having me on here today. This is definitely, as Ed was saying, a topic that's near and dear to my heart. You know, future b...

Brian Strickland 00:43 Hello, everyone, you're listening to The Holistic Navigator Podcast, where we believe in the body's ability to heal itself if it's given the proper nutrients and care. My name is Brian Strickland. I'm the producer of the show. And here with me in the studio, as always is the host Ed Jones. Ed, how's your week been?
Ed Jones 01:00 It's been a good busy week, and we had a lot of new developments that we're excited about and with The Holistic Navigator and other parts to this nutrition kind of conversation, which we certainly will share with time. And I'm very pumped up about today's podcasts.
Brian Strickland 01:18 Absolutely. Well, on today's episode, everyone, we're taking a look at the widespread use of antibiotics and how it's affecting the health of people all around the world. Yes, in certain situations, antibiotics are amazing. But there are consequences for their use. Not only do they destroy whatever invasive bacteria you may have, they also seriously alter your gut flora as well. On this episode, we want to talk about how to protect your gut with the use of probiotics, especially if you're currently taking or just finished a course of antibiotics. But to begin, let's go ahead and talk about just the general use of antibiotics. And how exactly are they affecting your gut flora?
Ed Jones 01:59 Well, thank you. And I think every one of us in this country has at one time or another taken an antibiotic. And in fact, the amount of antibiotics prescribed and given to animals is mammoth. It's in the billions of doses and it's scary stuff. Well, you know, the definition of antibiotic is actually against life. That's what it is. And before I get into the super details of this, I must say, you know, we are not here to tell you not to take an antibiotic. I'm not here to say that instead of doing it, you should do something else. We are not responsible for your health, we're here as educators. And if you are not brave enough to take hold of your own health as a partner, then you probably need to turn the podcast off because this is about a p...

Brian Strickland: [00:00:00] Hey everyone. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed some good food and time with family and friends. We're taking a little break this week in honor of the holiday, but we didn't want to leave you without an episode. So we're replaying one that we think is pretty important for this time of year. We hope you enjoyed this episode, and we'll be back with brand new content in a couple of weeks. We'll talk to you soon.
Hey everyone, welcome back to the Holistic Navigator podcast where we talk about all things holistic health and believe in the body's ability to heal itself if it's given the proper nutrients and care. It's the start of a brand new year and we're excited about bringing you new episodes each and every week. If you're new to the podcast, we just want to say welcome. My name is Brian Strickland. I'm the producer of the show and joining me in the studio as always is our host Ed Jones. And our goal for this podcast simply to educate anyone who [00:01:00] may be interested in learning more about natural, holistic healing. Well with the New Year beginning resolutions will abound and most often at the top of that list is dieting and weight loss. And while these are fine goals to aspire to, sometimes what we really need to do is target the underlying reasons why we eat what we do and more often than not it really comes down to food cravings. We all have those particular foods we love of and when we indulge our bodies crave more but we want to teach you how to combat those cravings to begin a journey towards healthier eating. And with that being said, let me go ahead and toss it over to the host of our show, Mr. Ed Jones.
Ed Jones: Thank you Brian so much. And you said that eloquently about the fact that you know, we need to address these food cravings because I've been watching people for 41 years in a professional sense deal with a lot of New Year's resolutions, but [00:02:00] not just New Years. It happens every month of the year. And we have a nation that is truly addicted to foods and many people do not realize that. I've had my certainly share in the journey of you know, falling into the pattern of needing a certain class of foods, most of which is carbohydrate driven. And the more I eat, more I want. And the more I want the more I eat. And it's a vicious cycle and it is destructive not only to your weight but to your h...

05/17/19 • 29 min
Supplementation can have a drastic effect on your health. It can help with nutrient deficiency, prevent chronic disease and support the body’s many systems. On this week’s episode we speak with Ed about his personal supplementation regimen and the calculated approach he takes towards optimal health. We talk about the CORE 5 supplements, a great starting point for anyone curious about supplementation, and all the areas supplementation can be beneficial in your own life.
Some Topics We Discussed:
- How does Ed divide up his supplements so he knows what to take at what time? (1:19)
- What is the purpose of supplementation? (3:33)
- What are some of the major reasons people age poorly? (11:08)
- What does Ed personally take for his supplements? (17:31)
Key Takeaways From This Episode:
- Ed supplements to improve his quality of life, not necessarily to have a longer life. (6:17)
- Aging is accelerated right now quicker than any time in the history of mankind. (8:37)

Brian Strickland 00:43 Hello friends and welcome back to another episode of the Holistic Navigator Podcast where we believe in the body's ability to heal itself. Thank you so much for tuning in. I'm Brian Strickland, the producer of the show and today we're going to be talking about supplementation. We'll cover some of the basics of supplementation and the purpose it serves. Plus Ed will be sharing his personal supplement regimen, which is somewhere in the ballpark of nearly 70 pills a day. Let's say hello, really quick to your host, Mr. Ed Jones. Ed, what's up? How are you doing today?
Ed Jones 01:19 Good afternoon, Brian, I'm doing quite well. And I am excited to share today one of the more common questions which I rarely ever answer in person, which is what do you take Ed, as far as supplements? But I don't really have a you know, I can't just spill off mentally Oh, here's the 72 supplements I take because I actually have to take pictures of them to remember it myself. Now I will say this is how I arrange it. Before I get into the reasons why I do it. And the exact products that I use. I do my pills one week at a time. I will spend usually Sunday evening with little baggies, and I will line up all of my supplements and then I will make up the baggies for that week. That's the first thing. Secondly, I do believe in taking it in divided doses. Whenever blood levels you achieve within two hours of a supplement, unless there are oil soluble, you probably will be completely depleted within eight hours. So it makes total sense to take most of your supplements, morning and supper or if you felt they were affecting your sleep, do it morning and lunch. And so I carry these baggies around very easily. I've been doing this for decades, many decades.
Brian Strickland 02:39 I think it's important to say that this is one of those things that you have to be really intentional about just like most things, you know, that are health related planning, I mean, you have to do it. That's its purpose, just like meal preps or anything like that if you're wanting to eat healthy. And so actually planning out when you have that many. And then being sure that you take them with you is really important.
Ed Jones 03:01 It's not going to happen on its own. And you're exactly right. In fact, you've just discussed how you're organizing your email life. In this complex world of ours, we you will be eaten alive with all of these handcuffs of technology and life and chaos if you don't put it in order. And that's one of those is, you know, thinking about what you're going to eat during ...

Brian Strickland 00:43 Hey everyone, you're listening to The Holistic Navigator Podcast, where we talk about all things holistic health, and believe in the body's ability to heal itself if given the proper nutrients and care. My name is Brian Strickland. I'm the producer of the show. And on today's episode, we'll be talking about the incredible capacity of manuka honey for healing. We've got Mike Everly with us today of Bees and Trees Manuka Honey to walk us through how this works and what to look for when purchasing. So without further ado, here's your host, Ed Jones.
Ed Jones 01:18 Thank you again, Brian. And I'm always excited every Wednesday to do these podcasts. And the reason is, is because I've spent my whole life respecting the healing magic and power of nature. You know, 80% of the world relies on botanical medicines. What is botanical medicines? They are products from the earth, they're far less manipulated, they're whole molecules that we were given for healing. They were placed here for many purposes, one of which was for animals and humans to utilize when they're needing something needing to be, you know, fight some illness or a help to nourish the body. And if you've listened to any my other podcasts, you know, I have my deep respect for this power of nature. I have been involved in natural health and healing for 41 years now and hopefully will continue that for at least a decade or two more. And one of the products that I have relied on off and on because it tends to fall off my radar screen but when it's is back on my radar screen permanently now because of this gentleman that you're going to hear today, Mike Everly as we discuss manuka honey. Now everyone who's listening, don't think manuka honey is just a flavor of honey. It has some properties to it that no other honey does anywhere in the world, and it also has to be harvested in a very special place. So welcome Mike Everly from Bees and Trees Manuka Honey to The Holistic Navigator.
Mike Everly 03:04 Thanks, Ed. It's, it's great to great to be with you this morning and looking forward to sharing information with your audience about manuka honey. And yeah, it's an amazing, amazing product and would love to get into specifics with you.
Ed Jones 03:22 Absolutely. And you know, I only have people on The Holistic Navigator that I resonate with that also fully realize has a similar passion for truth, ethics and the respect of natural health and healing. And you certainly are one of those. I don't know how our paths ended up crossing, but I am appreciative that it did. You know, you were on my radio show, I actually do a radio show sponsored...

Don’t Let Chronic Pain Control Your Life
The Holistic Navigator
08/02/19 • 44 min
Chronic pain is epidemic and traditional treatments are causing health disasters in this country. The widespread use of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are wreaking havoc on the health of many worldwide and they might not even know it’s happening. These are meant to be used for acute pain and short term use, but there are many people that are taking them every day for years. Long term use of these drugs can cause kidney damage, fluid retention, liver stress, create a higher risk of heart disease, and can cause damage to the gut.
Are there other options? YES. It’s not the norm to be walking around in pain on a daily basis. There are many habits and lifestyles that contribute to this type of pain without you even knowing it. What we eat, our activity levels, our emotions all play a role in our discomfort levels. We’re here to say that there is hope and it’s possible to live pain free. We’ll cover natural supplements and new habits that can help you on the journey to living without pain.

- What is the protocol for addressing chronic pain? (20:25)
- What is the ideal diet for chronic pain management? (37:12)

Brian Strickland 00:11 Hey, everybody, welcome back to The Holistic navigator Podcast, where we believe in the body's ability to heal itself. My name is Brian Strickland, and I'm the producer of the show. And I'm joined in studio as always by your host Ed Jones. Ed, how you doing today?
Ed Jones 00:59 Could not be better just had my first grandchild. So I'm riding pretty high right now.
Brian Strickland 01:04 Congratulations. I know that's exciting. But on today's episode, we're speaking about some natural means to help regulate chronic pain. Chronic Pain is a nightmare for many, but there may be some habits in your life that are contributing to it. The good news is there are some simple lifestyle changes that can actually help you live pain free. So Ed to start, could you explain to the listeners what type of chronic pain you'll be speaking about in how many people are actually living on a daily basis with some sort of chronic pain?
Ed Jones 01:35 Thank you, Brian. And I think most listeners will probably understand the term chronic pain. What I mean by chronic pain is the aches, the stiffness, the moving slowly, the twinges that come when daily activities are occurring. I'm not talking about the pain that comes if you did something at the gym by overworking or you stubbed your toe or something far more major. That's an acute pain. Chronic Pain is affecting 1.5 billion people worldwide. The numbers are saying that is tremendous, huge amounts. Now, why do we care? Well, one reason that is significant is because the treatment that most people grasp very quickly, is causing tremendous health disasters in his country. That is the use of NSAIDS...
