Meet Amina:
Amina Naru, is the owner of Posh Yoga LLC in Wilmington, Delaware, Co-founder of Retreat to Spirit, active member of the board of directors for Accessible Yoga Association, past co executive director of the Yoga Service Council and works as a trauma sensitive yoga teacher, wellness educator, mentor and workshop facilitator.
Amina served three terms as secretary for the YSC Board of Directors and is a contributing author to the books Best Practices for Yoga with Veterans (YSC/Omega, 2016) and Best Practices for Yoga in the Criminal Justice System (YSC/Omega, 2017). She has served as the project manager for Yoga and Resilience: Empowering Practices for Survivors of Sexual Trauma (YSC/Omega) published by Handspring May 2020. She also was the project manager for Best Practices for Yoga with People in Addictions and Recovery. Her professional expertise is in the field of yoga service for communities, juvenile detention centers and adult prisons. She is the first black woman to implement curriculum-based yoga and mindfulness programs for juvenile detention centers in the state of Delaware.
Meet Pam:
Pamela is the Founder and Director of Yoga2Sleep, Co-Founder of Retreat to Spirit, and Adjunct Professor/Yoga Therapy Clinic Supervisor at the Maryland University of Integrative Health. She is a certified yoga therapist and meditation teacher with specialized certifications in plant-based nutrition, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and trauma-informed yoga to work with service members, veterans, their caregivers, and insomnia sufferers. Previously serving as Co-Executive Director of the Yoga Service Council, she cultivated financial resilience and strategic partnerships for the nonprofit organization. An avid yogini for over 20 years, Pamela was motivated to begin her teaching journey when she realized that yoga helped her sleep, decreased her insomnia and reduced her knee osteoarthritis pain.

Thurston will share with us how intergenerational addiction is a difficult cycle to break. He will provide us with the step’s families can take to break the cycle of substance use.
Meet Thurston Smith:
Thurston S. Smith, MPA, LAC, CCS, Adjunct Faculty at Union University, Administrative and Program Surveyor for CARF International, an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services agencies, project team member for Paramount Consulting Group, PLLC, a minority-owned business that provides accreditation readiness, quality assurance, and contract compliance for behavioral health organizations across the U.S. With over 25 years of experience in criminal and juvenile programming, mental health, and children and youth services. A recent retiree from the U.S. Veterans Health Administration, Thurston has held a variety of leadership positions during his civil service career, which includes: Congressional Liaison, Mental Health Program Coordinator, Employment Services Program Manager, Chemical Dependency Center Program Supervisor, Education Specialist, and a host of other leadership roles.
As a community organizer and public policy activist, Thurston has provided oral testimony before the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus Political Leadership Institute on criminal justice reform and has appeared before the Tennessee House of Representatives on juvenile justice policy. In August 2018, Thurston served as a delegate and special advisor to the Shelby County Commission, in its appearance before the senior leadership of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in Washington, D.C. A U.S. Treasury Department appointee, Thurston has fulfilled a three- year federal advisory committee (FAC) appointment to the National Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP). During his tenure with TAP, Thurston served on both the Notices & Correspondence Committee (NCC) and Taxpayer Assistance Centers Committee (TAC). In 2020, he served as Vice Chair of the TAC Committee. He is currently fulfilling his third
year of service on the Tennessee Community Resource Board for the TN Department of Corrections.
