Marine Corps and Somalia Vet to Yogi and Author | David Richards
The Greg Krino Show
08/15/22 • 71 min
David Richards is a business professional, life coach, yoga instructor, and speaker on self-development. He spent his early childhood living in various parts of the United States and three years living on the island of Okinawa, Japan. After graduating university with a degree in English, he was commissioned an officer in the Marines. He served fifteen years on active duty before deciding to break out from the path his father and brother had followed in making the military a career and left the Marines to pursue life as a civilian.
He joined Cisco Systems in 2006 and shortly thereafter discovered yoga. A year later, he taught his first yoga class. Realizing the fulfillment that came from helping others see their vision more clearly, he became a certified life coach. He works with individuals and organizations conducting training through private coaching engagements, speaking events, and workshops.
Down to earth, insightful, and sometimes silly, he blends elements of yoga with quantum physics to bring the esoteric together with the practical for a truly unique perspective of how the mind works, in turn creating easily understood self-development plans that create lasting change for a more fulfilling life.
You can purchase David's books and follow him at DavidRichardsAuthor.com.

Mona Passage with Author Thomas Bardenwerper
The Greg Krino Show
07/12/21 • 88 min
Former Coast Guard officer and Harvard Law student Thomas "Buddy" Bardenwerper tells us about his upcoming book - Mona Passage - which comes out in November. The Mona Passage is a dangerous area of ocean between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, through which drug traffickers and migrants attempt to pass in an effort to get to the United States.
Mona Passage is the story of two neighbors in San Juan, Puerto Rico: Galán Betances, a Cuban emigrant, and Pat McAllister, a young Coast Guard officer. During long evenings spent together talking on their Calle Luna rooftop, a deep friendship develops based on shared traumas and a common desire to heal. When Galán learns that his sister, Gabriela, is going to be committed to a mental health facility in Cuba, he plans her escape to Puerto Rico. Pat, whose Coast Guard cutter patrols the Mona Passage for drug traffickers and migrants, warns Galán that such a journey will be treacherous—perhaps fatal. Aware of the dangers but determined for Gabriela to live a full life, Galán hands over all the money he has to a Dominican smuggler based out of a San Juan nightclub, and Gabriela begins her terrifying journey. Knowing that his cutter may be all that separates Galán and Gabriela—and haunted by the human suffering he has witnessed at sea—Pat must decide. Will he remain true to his oath, as his older brother had done in Iraq? Or will he risk his own future—and perhaps his freedom—for his closest friend? On a moonless night, two armed vessels converge in the Mona Passage, and three lives change forever.
