Rickey Townsend Jr., Co-Founder of Crowned Scholars, is a dynamic leader dedicated to empowering young Black boys through mentorship and education. A math teacher by profession, Rickey’s personal journey growing up without a father drives his passion for guiding boys toward success. Crowned Scholars focuses on instilling positive habits, leadership skills, and a sense of purpose in the next generation. Through initiatives like the "Black Male Educator Conversation," Rickey is reshaping narratives around Black male youth and educators in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Crowned Scholars is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that focuses on helping to educate and develop Black boys through STEAM academic enrichment, building healthy habits, and 1:1 mentoring.
Their vision is to help our young men recognize and embrace their unexposed gifts, while also educating them on what it means to be a young black man in today’s society. Our essential focus is to build healthy habits that will equip our scholars to take on life’s challenges. We believe that every young man that is created, is already CROWNED:Confident / Respectful / Owners / Wise / Noble / Educated / Dignified.

The foundation is geared towards childhood literacy, more specifically K-3 grade. Bruton’s books has partnerships with United Way in both Denver, CO & Dayton, OH. They have been able to open up a reading area in an elementary school in Aurora, as well as donate 20,000 books to elementary schools throughout Denver and another 30,000 throughout Dayton. The foundation has also donated over $30k in its efforts to make books and tutors more accessible to the youth in both Denver & Dayton!

Beyond The Court: is a life-changing organization that prepares young athletes across the United States for life beyond their individual sport. Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Beyond The Court was founded because we saw a need in the community to prepare athletes for what their lives may look like in the event they don’t make it to a professional league. At Beyond The Court, basketball is our first love, but we support and encourage all student-athletes, across the board.
In addition to sponsoring, hosting, and providing sports tournaments across the nation, they have also developed session-based conference that provides student-athletes academic and athletic resources to prepare them for the future.
According to the NCAA, of the student-athletes participating in college sports, less than 2% become professional athletes. In reality, most student-athletes depend on academics to prepare them for life after college. Education is important! This is where Beyond The Court steps in.
Join us as we dive into Chelsia’s journey—exploring how she turned her vision into reality, the challenges she’s overcome as a leader in the nonprofit world, and the values that guide her both professionally and personally.
