Episode 56 of The Get More Podcast: Consistency
We are wrapping up Confidence Month and today's episode is all about the importance of consistency when it comes to our confidence levels.
As we have learned in the last year, in order to get good at something you need to practice it.
And in order to practice something, you need to do it on a regular basis and do it a lot.
The by-product of doing something a lot, on a regular basis, and getting good at it, is our confidence level!
It goes up!
The better you get at something the more confident you become in your ability to do it.
Think about a job you've been in for years, or a sport that you have played forever, or a hobby that you have become incredibly good at.
It took time, it took practice, and it required that you show up consistently for that activity (it didn't happen by accident).
So this week we are going to pay attention to the places that we show up consistently and determine whether or not that skill can be redirected (where necessary) to more important areas of our life.

Does Your Cup Runneth Over? Let's Talk Capacity
The Get More Podcast | with Bare Slate
02/22/21 • 8 min
Episode 51 of The Get More Podcast
Today we are wrapping up Accountability Month with the final element in the Bare Slate Accountability Success Formula and it's all about Capacity.
"Capacity is the maximum amount that something can contain", and this includes you!
Just like putting on that oxygen mask, you need to help yourself first when it comes to your capacity to handle everyday situations, circumstances, and decisions.
One thing that leads to being at capacity is the tendency to overcommit yourself and take on too much - you literally have no room left to take on even one more small thing.
Why do we do this?
We may think that we 'have' to do the thing, or attend that event or meeting, or take on that project, or try and help everyone!
An excellent example of this is People Pleasing, or "Nice Guy Syndrome".
We think it's rude or 'not nice' to say no to others and to additional commitments (and this can include our perceived need to help others).
As we like to say, "Don't make your problem, my problem!" which essentially means that you don't have to take on the problems of the world when you have your own to deal with.

Delivering Your Message Without The Mean
The Get More Podcast | with Bare Slate
01/18/21 • 8 min
Often we hear the phrase, "preparing for difficult conversations" and we interpret that to mean that we want to plan for every eventuality.
- What you should say if someone says this, or that,
- How you plan to respond if they say the thing that usually triggers you
- We plan out examples of their past behaviours that 'prove' we are right
We practice the conversations over and over again in our mind, thinking that we are 'preparing' for the discussion however, when we do this, we are at risk of shutting down any opportunity for growth, insights, or learning from the other individual.
By trying to prepare our scripts, we forget to prepare for the
emotional capacity needed to have an authentic conversation.
We regret saying something we shouldn't have because we let our emotions get the best of us and slipped back into a patter of over-reaction.
We end up with situations that have us going over the interaction in our minds and saying things like, "ugh why did I say that!? I should have said THIS instead!"
Our recommendation is to prepare yourself emotionally for the conversation, and avoid the feedback loops that we all create, instead!
This way we can leave the mean out of the message.

Today's Points:

Can You Help Me Sharpen My Pencil? - The Motivation Formula
The Get More Podcast | with Bare Slate
06/29/20 • 10 min
We need to take action every day so that we can keep moving forward, and we need to celebrate the rewards.
Do yourself a favour and write down where the heck you are going.
And I mean, write down the details of what it feels like to win that goal.
Because if you can’t write that out, and if you don’t take the time to write it out, then you are never going to get it because you’re not going to feel motivated.
Take the baby steps to the big win.

Be Your Own Constant - The Confidence Formula
The Get More Podcast | with Bare Slate
06/16/20 • 9 min
In today’s episode, we explore the role consistency plays in confidence and why we need to practice it more.
Words and actions determine whether we are to be trusted.
The more consistent our behaviour, the more comforting we are to be around and the more confident we become.
We need to have confidence when we communicate and take action to build a greater sense of confidence and trust.

Trying to Get Fired by Coming In Drunk, Being Made to Do The Chicken Dance? | Real Leaders. Real Life. Podcast
The Get More Podcast | with Bare Slate
07/23/21 • 14 min
Today's Real Leaders Real Life stories come from individuals dealing with some interesting situations in the workplace and we are here to talk about them!
One story was posted anonymously on reddit.com where an individual decided that they were going to try and get fired (instead of putting in their notice) and for a month they came in to work late, wore their club clothes to work, and even came in to work drunk/hungover.
The other story involves a little bit of a bait and switch with a marketing job, where part of the job included ending the day in a circle with all of the other sales people and if you didn't make your sales quota you had to dance like a chicken in the middle of that circle.
What would you do!?
