The Fit Travel Show - Episode 2.7 - A Unique Perspective About Commitment
play

10/26/20 • 51 min

Hey Fit Travel Tribe!
Recently, I recognized a trait of mine that leads directly to stress and overwhelm, and that’s what we discuss in this episode.

Some say that failure is the best teacher, while others say that other people‘s failures are the best teacher. In either case, we can learn from observing behavior and the results of that behavior.
Listen for my story about "Jake".

  1. Jake went backwards on his commitment.
  2. Jake’s pitfalls caused me to recognize times where I’ve made the same mistake.
  3. His change in language reflected his change in attitude and behavior (the only two things we can control).
  4. You may think that Jake still has the opportunity to go on his vacation, but you would be ignoring the compounding effect of his decisions over time. This situation and many others like it are the cause of Jake’s constant cycle of quiet desperation.

I’m going to ask a simple question: Can you relate?

I (Mike) did.

Why are we talking about this? Two reasons:

  1. Failing commitments:
    1. Increases stress (too many things at once)
    2. Effects everyone around you
    3. Damages self-esteem
  2. Truth dagger: Because most people around you are too insecure to recognize and help you. Most people react out of their own insecurity. “You told me you were going to do this!” “You said!” “You promised!” A secure person comes along side you. “Hey Jake, remember last week when you said you were going on that vacation? It seems like buying that kayak, although your reasons seem noble, wasn’t aligned with your goals. I’m worried about you man. Is everything okay? Did something change?” You can imagine the compounding and completely avoidable pain.

Solution

Step 1 - Make a list of all commitments and obligations in one area of your life. In this case, we’ll use finances (We encourage you to do this exercise again for time, extracurricular activities, and even family or relationships. You’ll find that many of your responsibilities overlap “hint hint”.)

Step 2 - Add a TIMESTAMP of when you made that commitment. Haha - don’t quit on us here. You can likely see where this is going. Go ahead and reorder (I.e. reprioritize) your list from oldest to newest.

Step 3 - Whittle down your list of commitments. Those commitments made first should stand, but if this is the first time completing an exercise like this you may not be able to revert on some recent obligations.

This is your opportunity to restart with a fresh mentality. This is your ONE opportunity to hit the reset button.

When I consider our life together, there are certain things that are non-negotiable. There’s no emotion involved. Do we contribute to our 401(k)? It’s not even a decision, it automatically comes out of our paycheck. We work out nearly every day. We eat clean, it’s not up for debate. So to complete Step 3, refine your list, commit in your mind that these (and only these) are your obligations until completed, and step forward with behavior consistent with these obligations. At some point what you know to be true must be converted to action, or it means nothing.

Hey Fit Travel Tribe,
In this episode, Gio Roselli shares about his career from WWE Pro Wrestler to Fitness Educator. This conversation was jam-packed with great takeaways, and tools you can use to improve your overall health and wellness.
As we shared the mic with Gio, we couldn't help but recognize his perseverance and the willpower it took to continue pressing forward despite injuries and setbacks. How often are we deterred and slowed down by "life" stuff? As Tommy said recently, so many people live their life within imaginary margins.
Gio's story is truly inspiring, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

How to Avoid Marketing Mayhem
Stay focused, sift through the noise, and learn to rely on the right resources for quality information in order to live healthier!
Travel Tip: New Airline Routes
Fitness Tip: If you aren't exercising regularly, you're shortening your life. Period. I jumbled some of the specifics in my excitement, but the evidence is there. You've got to find your way into a regular activity and exercise routine - yes, they're different, and both important - and we're here to help! Drop us a line on Facebook, Insta or through email ([email protected]) and we'll help you get started.

Overall Concepts

  • Savings and Deals - you still have to spend money in order to save money, very counterintuitive if the savings inconveniences you or causes you to make a purchase you weren't going to purchase in the first place. Example exception: if you're open to different destinations for a particular trip, and happen to find a sale to an unusual place!

Nutrition Marketing

  • Organic meanings - "100% organic", "Organic" (at least 95%), "Made with organic" (at least 70%)

Often found in Condiments:

  • Fat content
    • Reduced fat or Less fat (25% less than original or comparison)
    • Low fat (3g or less per serving)
    • Fat-free (less than .5g per serving)
  • Sugar content (tends to follow fat content)
  • Light: 50% less fat OR 1⁄3 less calories

Often found in Breads/Grains/Carbohydrates:

  • Pay attention to whole grain vs. 100% whole wheat vs. multi-grain vs. 12-grain, etc.
  • “Gluten-free” - avoid if you have been diagnosed by a medical professional as gluten-intolerant. Otherwise, irritable stomach could just be sugar content or otherwise.

Often found in Meat/Poultry:

  • “No antibiotics” or “Antibiotic-free” (refer to episode for Maryssa's commentary)
  • Lean (meat, poultry or seafood) means less than 10 grams of fat, 4.5 grams of saturated fat, and 95 mg of cholesterol in a 100 gram serving
  • Extra lean (meat, poultry or seafood) means less than 5 grams of fat, 2 grams of saturated fat, and 95 mg of cholesterol in a 100 gram servings

The Fit Travel Show - Episode 2.8 - NEWSFLASH: Any Diet Can Work
play

10/29/20 • 2 min

News Flash: Every Diet Works.

Every diet works! But you may not believe that truth at the moment, so let’s start with a more digestible - no pun intended - fact:
Any Diet Can Work.

So, what is one reason why most diets fail? From my experience working with hundreds if not thousands of clients over the years: we judge ourselves by our intentions and not our actions. We focus more on what we meant to do than what we didn’t do. After all, “It’s the thought that counts!” - right? No.

So how can you be successful with your next diet? Simple. Start with a 3-Day Nutrition Diary. For 3 consecutive week days, (Mon-Wed or Tue-Thu), write down or keep a journal in your Apple Notes or Android Notepad of EVERYTHING you consume (especially beverages).

Do you know the infinite possibilities that appear once you’ve accurately documented your nutrition for 3 consecutive days? Not only will you have a true picture and reality check about what you really consume, you’ll be able to look and see clear and simple ways to change your habits to achieve your goals!

So start soon (this Monday or Tuesday) and document your habits. For a completely free nutrition review and goal analysis, you can send your 3-Day Nutrition Diary to us ([email protected]). We’d be delighted to help you see how easy it can be to transform your lifestyle.

Hey Fit Travel Tribe!
In today’s episode, we talk about LemOga, finding time for fitness during the holidays, and the most important thing you can do to ensure some quality memories with family and friends during the holidays. We’re excited to share this 35 minute episode with you, and we truly hope it adds value to your everyday adventure. :)

“6 Struggles You Can Avoid During Your Holiday Travels This Year”

Our tips for eating healthy and fitting in workouts when traveling for the holidays!

Poll results of our audience's 6 biggest struggles:

  • Time
  • Out of routine/loss of momentum
  • Association (Poor nutrition, people that don’t exercise, negativity)
  • Not knowing what to do (No gym or equipment, no compass about healthy nutrition)
  • Stress
  • Not enough sleep

Direct solutions:

  • Time: Make time; book a class, schedule a workout with a friend or family member, set a regular time each day for a run or workout, do it before everyone else is awake for the day
  • Out of routine: Plan ahead; keep your momentum by planning ahead to avoid mishaps, figure out where to workout (most facilities have discounted weekly pass).
  • Association: Can be tough, especially sitting down to a big Thanksgiving meal. Think moderation. Realize that you can say “No”. Make time for you!
  • Not knowing what to do: Plan ahead or schedule a class; you can also utilize us - we’ll create a workout program for your holiday getaway.
  • Stress: Get enough sleep; usually a combination of all of the above, keep a positive mindset by doing your best to stay active, stick to your routine and think moderation.
  • Poor sleep: If we just tell you to get more sleep, it doesn’t deliver. Understand the value of sleep; discuss importance of sleep, what happens during sleep, and what happens if you don’t get enough sleep. Better sleep quality: dark room, colder temperatures, background noise, etc.
