The First Run - TFR Ep. 561: Zola, No Sudden Move, Who Dat?!?

This week on The First Run, it’s EXTREME-casting. Tropical storm/Hurricane Elsa is bearing down on Florida and JC of Screenfix is here to once again drive Chris insane. First up, it’s the Twitter thread come to life black comedy road trip epic that is ‘Zola’. Primarily shot locally here in Tampa, Chris hopes to identify all the local spots and see if this whole thing actually works, but is quickly undone by JC’s unique, we’ll say, perspective. Then it’s on to Steven Soderbergh’s latest streaming exclusively on HBOMax, ‘No Sudden Move’. Soderbergh returns to the twisty heist flick featuring a stellar cast out to get their hands on an incredibly dull McGuffin. And more arguments are had. There’re the big releases on physical media, featuring the Straight to DVD and Streaming Picks of the Week! The show then wraps with Chris’s first time role playing with a guest in ‘Who Dat’. It’s always awkward the first time. Join us for 90 minutes of entertaining madness as Chris is finally put in his place.

This time out its ‘The Little Things’, Denzel plays a semi-retired cop who’s brought back to his former city and dragged into a mystery that reminds him of a case that’s haunted him for years. Plus Rami Malek and Jared Leto! Then it’s on to the Irish animated folktale, ‘Wolfwalkers’. It’s 1650 in Ireland and Sean Bean (who may or may not die in this one) and his daughter are brought to Kilkenny to take out the local wolf population so the settlers can farm the forest. But there’s something out there...walking with the wolves. There’s shockingly fun review of the big releases on Physical Media, featuring the Straight to DVD and Streaming Picks of the Week.
