Ken Sweeney chats with Sophia Wellek who is Project Manager at M100 Sanssouci Colloquium. The M100 Sanssouci Colloquium was initiated in 2005 by a group of leading media and public figures when Potsdam was running for European Capital of Culture 2010. Since then the conference annually takes place in Park Sanssouci. The international forum brings together Europe`s top editors, commentators and media owners (print, broadcasting and internet) alongside key public figures to assess the role and impact of the media in international affairs and to promote democracy and freedom of expression and speech. As a modern-day East-West bridge-builder, the Colloquium fosters media relations and not only exposes differences but also common ground in the challenges faced by media from different cultures and regions.

The European Network - The Moldovan Coffee Break Episode 1
play

02/26/21 • 28 min

Welcome to Episode one of The Moldovan Coffee Break. A European Network production.

In this six-part podcast series, we will be casting a spotlight on the country of Moldova and in particular, life for six young people so as to examine what it is like to grow up in the Moldova of 2021.

Moldova has historically been given a bad rap, mainly due to uninformed press and unflattering travel reports, but there is far more to this country than just a post-Soviet state, and we will show this by engaging with Moldova’s strongest asset - its youth. Co-hosted by Ken Sweeney and Loredana Prijmireanu, their aim is to portray Moldova for what it really is - a culture rich country with a unique past and vibrant future. Loredana has been sitting down for a coffee with the six young individuals over the last few months and each episode will feature a conversation with one of our interviewees.

In this first episode, we meet Catarina Martin – a twenty-year-old student who is based in Maastricht studying European Law. Catarina and Loredana discuss living away from home and what aspects can make it attractive for young emigrant Moldavans to return to their homeland. Thanks for visiting our podcast platform.
