Elaine Hayes is a friend, client and colleague.
Elaine is a boarding barn owner, a dressage rider and trainer and lives in NC USA.
Partnership Dressage is the lense she approaches to developing correct sport horses, to a high level, with kindness and respect. I have really enjoyed supporting her on a few cases she called me in to advise on.
Elaine is also an advocate for quality breeding. After discovering ECVM in some of her horses, which resulted in life ending scenarios for these horses, Elaine put her entire business on the line to begin advocating for better breeding, diagnostics and awareness. Awareness around the bodies many horses are born with.
ECVM, which has been discussed a few times in season 1, together with many other genetic diseases of a horses skeleton is not always a doom and gloom diagnosis. It is not always a life ending diagnosis. But it does hold a very high prevalence of high potential for discomfort, pain, and potentially event catastrophic dysfunction. Early studies indicate the possibility, but not yet proven fact, that an enormous percentage of today’s domestic horses are bred with broken bodies.
I hugely admire Elaine. Because I admire anyone who speaks boldly to their triuth and puts everything on the line, passionately for causes that are important to them.
Appearing on her first podcast ever, here. It is my pleasure to introduce you to my friend and colleague, Elaine.

Kathy Sierra is a self confessed controversial figure to the horse world, and for that reason and many others, I absolutely adore her.
In my opinion, Kathy Sierra is at least 50 years ahead of her time.
Kathy comes to horses from a unique multi-disciplinary background; she majored in exercise physiology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and worked in the fitness industry for 10 years. She graduated in computer programming from UCLA and then enjoyed a long career in silicone valley in tech, being a pioneer in digital technologies in the 1990’s. She has published books on computer programming and specialises in game design... where she became an international expert in the neuroendocrine physiology of PLAY and how to use it according to science to improve intrinsic motivation.
She has a deep interest in cognitive science driven from her own diagnosis of epilepsy.
After a long career in tech Kathy left that career after she fell victim to serious online harrassment that included doxing, death threats, doctored images of her face next to a noose posted on blogs and forums, and her threats were reported in the news. After infamous and self professed internet trolls admitted their responsibility for the harassment to the New York Times, Kathy saw this as a sign to step back from her career in computer programming and technology. The harassment was driven from of course, her pioneering and fearless approach to promoting the absolute best and most cutting edge information available to us... no matter whose feathers it may ruffle.
Kathy comes from a horsey family, her sister being a very dedicated dressage rider, and Kathy herself being a lifelong fan of the Icelandic breed.
She took her understanding of cognitive science, play science, pain science and the mammalian neuroendocrine system and began a grassroots movement on instagram called at the time INTRINZEN she she presented scientifically cutting edge principals of the above and how it relates to horses.
using those principals her students then make unique implementations and adapatations to their horses. Her work has the potential to completely throw out an outdated biomechanics model of horse training and usher in a new, more fun, more free, lesss fearful future of physical training and development of horses.
For this reason, she is often the persona non grata to many horse traiers and biomechanics experts because her wide and deep knowledge base cuts their work out at core as being based on bad science.
Kathy is a friend. Someone who has always supported me, often at ties when nobody else did. She is not someone whom I agree with on everything, but I don’t need universal consensus to love, respect and learn from my colleagues.
It is my pleasure to present this conversation with Kathy on the podcast. I have old conversations between us already up on Youtube, but this is a fresh one! Enjoy!

Louise Bach Holler is my guest on the podcast today, for a good reason!
Louise is a horse trainer and hoofcare provider certified with the AANHCP who was born in Denmark but currently lives in north east Spain.
Louise is passionate about natural horse keeping, barefoot trimming, and a training that blends food rewards with gentle pressure to fully educate and support a horse in their training in the best way possible.
She has competency in gymnastic groundwork, bitless riding, communication, body language, liberty work and much more.
Side bar, two years ago, I came into care of a Quarter horse colt named Oki. His breeder and I have been collaborating on his slow and gradual upbringing at his original home for the last two years. But this week, the first week of July 2024, Oki transports from one side of Spain to the other, to begin the next chapter of his life as he joins the EH herd here at my farm.
Transporting a 2 year old horse who has always lived at home across a country is a huge thing to ask of him. So I knew I needed help.
I hired Louise 6 months ago, to be my hands, my eyes, my help to train Oki to be best prepared as possible to travel. I am thrilled with the job she has done. So I thought you guys might like to meet her yourself!
I hope you enjoy this episode!

About KIM HALLIN
Mission:
At Unbridled, our mission is to empower horse lovers to establish and maintain healthy boundaries in their interactions with others, including in the horse industry. Through experiential education, online learning and mentoring support, we provide the tools and resources necessary for navigating the complexities of human relationships, especially within the equine community. By fostering empathy, understanding, and community, we strive to help horse lovers across the globe find more peace in their lives, and in their relationships.
Vision:
Our vision at Unbridled is a world (including the horse industry!) where individuals thrive in authentic and respectful relationships, free from the constraints of outdated narratives and power dynamics. We envision a future where healthy boundaries serve as the foundation for harmonious interactions, fostering a culture of mutual understanding, personal growth, and collective wellbeing. It's all about honoring the dignity and autonomy of every individual – horse, human and otherwise.
Our Approach:
Drawing inspiration from nature and the wisdom of horses, we offer a unique (and fun!) approach to learning about yourself and understanding what it means to embody healthy boundaries. By harnessing the power of herd observation, staying grounded in what's true (equine ethology), and spending quiet time with horses–and ourselves– in the most natural ways possible, we become students who get to learn from the masters of the Boundary Dance (horses!).
Empowerment Through Experiential Learning:
Our courses and programs are designed to provide interactive, relationship-based experiences that provide practical skills for establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries in your relationships with people and horses. We'll help you find your voice, learn to advocate lovingly for yourself and the horses in your life, and embrace courageous authenticity.
