The "Dune" miniseries, released in 2000, is a 3 part television adaptation of Frank Herbert's iconic science fiction novel. Directed by John Harrison, the miniseries presents our FAVORITE adaptation of the novel both in scope and sheer music video realness.
The miniseries pays careful attention to character development with unparalleled world building and features a stellar cast, including William Hurt, Alec Newman, and Saskia Reeves. While working within the constraints of a television budget, the 2000 "Dune" miniseries received praise for its ambition in tackling Herbert's intricate narrative, making it a notable adaptation for fans of the novel. "Dune: Messiah (1969)" by Frank Herbert
The Dune Deep Cuts - By Strange and Beautiful Book Club

*Contains Spoilers for the content discussed and the wider Dune Universe*
*Contains spoilers for Dune universe*
Originally published in serial format - Dune: Messiah is the second novel in Frank Herbert's "Dune" series, and it continues the complex narrative set in the expansive and intricate universe of Arrakis. The story unfolds several years after the events of the first novel, with Paul Atreides, now Emperor of the Known Universe, grappling with the consequences of his actions. As Paul struggles to maintain control over the sprawling empire, he faces political intrigue, betrayal, and the burdens of his prescient visions. The narrative delves into the complexities of leadership, the consequences of absolute power, and the intricate interplay of politics and religion. Dune Messiah is a thought-provoking exploration of the consequences of Paul's ascension and the challenges of ruling a universe. But is, in our opinion, a brilliantly tragic love story.

We watched the Alan Smithee/Extended cut of Dune from 1984!
David Lynch's Dune is a wild intergalactic rollercoaster where sandworms are enormous and the eyebrows even bigger. Join us in a universe where the spice must flow, but coherent plot lines might be optional. With Lynch's signature surreal touch, expect strange dreams, funky visuals, and a soundtrack that feels like it's competing with the sandworms for attention (and is probably winning). Lynch's Dune is a one-of-a-kind experience where the spice flows, Kyle broods, and confusion reigns supreme. Strap in for a journey that's part epic adventure, part psychedelic fever dream, and all Lynch.
