This episode was as inevitable as a blue Dreamcast case with its hinges broken off. Of course the Junkyard was going to record an episode to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the SEGA Dreamcast's October 14th 1999 launch in PAL regions! Blue swirl for life, mate.
In fact, celebrating this occasion was so important that we even managed to convince Junkyard founder Tom Charnock to emerge from his coffin and host the damn thing. Listen in as Tom, James, Andrew and Lewis share their memories of the Dreamcast, and provide a retrospective on the highs and lows (looking at you, Australian launch!) of the Dreamcast's venture into Europe and other PAL regions. There's also one of James' 10-questions quizzes to wrap up the episode... but will Tom, Andrew and Lewis fare better at the quiz than OziSoft did at launching the Dreamcast Down Under?

Dreamcast fan translation fever is at an all time high! Well, it is amongst our staff members at least. Derek Pascarella and Burntends join us for a lengthy chat about fan translations for the Dreamcast and the wider community of talents that make these projects happen. They also give us a fascinating peak behind the curtain at their process for hacking and translating the recently translated Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2 (aka Sakura Wars Columns 2).

With a roster big enough to challenge that of The King of Fighters 98, the DreamPod returns for Episode 9 wielding exclusives and authoritative commentary like a barbarian warlord in the midst of battle.Seriously, this pod has it all. From an exploration of some weird Japanese exclusives in What We've Being Playing, through a cheeky discussion about the recently revealed images of the SNES CD (the team manage to tie it to the Dreamcast eventually), to Tom donning his sequin-laced jumpsuit to discuss his most recent acquisition, a Dreamcast Karaoke Unit, Episode Nine of the DreamPod is a real doozy. In addition, the team drop yet another exclusive Dreamcast interview - a revealing and personal interview with Isotope SoftWorks' Coraline Annis - launch a call to arms for help on a yet-to-be-announced Dreamcast exclusive and even find time to put Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver under the microscope in a Retro Review. All that and much, much more on Episode 9 of The Dreamcast Junkyard DreamPod!

Tom and Lewis welcome new co-host Lozz, as they discuss the latest news from the Dreamcast online and indie scenes. A Dreamcast port of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, the next-gen VMU 'VM2' from Chris Diaoglou, Final Vendetta for Dreamcast probably not happening, the Dreamcast version of Andro Dunos 2 definitely happening, KDDI 'matching service' Capcom games being playable online once again (hopefully), and weird air fresheners in taxis. All this and more are discussed in this jam packed episode of the DreamPod!

play

12/20/21 • 68 min

This episode is a follow up to episode 95, where we discussed the first round picks for our Desert Island Discs Fantasy Draft. The game consists of us and some guests each building a roster of 4 Dreamcast games that are the only games we can take to a Desert Island.
In this episode, Kev, Lewis and Brian take a look at each person's four picks. This will soon be followed by a vote to decide who has created the most desirable Desert Island!
Special thanks to PcWzrd13 & Retro Faith for taking part, along with the team from Dreamcast Years. Please note that submissions to episode 100 of the DreamPod have now finished - our schedules got a bit rushed due to it being the holidays! Sorry about that, gang.

Episode 28

03/13/16 • 56 min

The DreamPod returns for episode 28 and it’s back to business as usual. Tom, Caleb, Mike and Ross reconvene to discuss all the most pertinent issues from the world of Dreamcast, and get sidelined along the way (as usual). Tom speaks a little bit about Noiz2sa - a game that was released years ago but which he has only just discovered; while Ross enlightens the team on the wonders of Sega Hard Girls collectable figures. The VMU gets a good bit of attention as the new demos and prototype games from Instagram user guacasaurus_mex are discussed (along with some memories of VMU games of yore); and the upcoming shooter-cum-puzzler SLaVE gets another update in the form of an email to pre-orderers. Caleb waxes lyrical about the latest release of ScummVM and the trials and tribulations of creating his own adventure games, Mike claims Gloucestershire is posher than Somerset, the team talk a little bit about the recent RetroCollect Video Game Market, and there’s an impromptu appearance from everybody’s favourite ex-Governor and conspiracy theorist Jesse Ventura. Episode 28 of DreamPod has it all, so hit that download button and get on board!

04/01/16 • 45 min

Regular DreamPod hosts Tom and Mike sit down once again to discuss the latest news bursting forth from the Dreamcast community. Ross was also meant to be involved, but a slight technical glitch called ‘British Summer Time’ put paid to that (sorry Ross). Regardless, the intrepid duo plough on to bring you the lowdown on the recent charity event the Junkyard was involved with, and Mike explains why F1 World Grand Prix 2 still holds up in this age of HD graphics and up-to-date F1 rosters. The DreamPod has a world exclusive podcast performance of the recent Flappy Bird VMU port, and the Stone Age Gamer/USB-GDROM fiasco is discussed. Later, your hosts take a look at two newly announced Dreamcast indie games and then try to amicably decide whether Dead or Alive 2 is better looking than Soul Calibur. DreamPod 29 is running on a skeleton crew but the content is anything but threadbare. If you have even a passing interest in the latest news from the Dreamcast community...you should probably go and look at either the DC-Talk or DC Emulation forums. Otherwise, hit that download button!
