The Detroit Lions Podcast - Ep: 339 – 2021 NFL Mock Draft First Round – Detroit Lions Podcast
play

04/20/21 • 157 min

Its time for a listener favorite, our annual 2021 NFL Consensus Mock Draft! Chris and Jeff Risdon are joined by Erik Schlitt and Scott Bischoff to take you through the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and build our consensus picks for each team.

Detroit Lions Podcast Mocks The Entire First Round

Where will Justin Fields land? Is Trey Lance a favorite for the Detroit Lions, or will Kyle Pitts drop to them? There’s been a lot of discussion of Mac Jones moving up the board, could the Lions trade back for more value? Chris has been all over Jaylen Waddle, but a lot of folks are high on Devonta Smith. All questions will be answered as we walk you through our 2021 NFL Mock Draft, consensus style. One thing for certain, Trevor Lawrence will be first overall.

This off-season has set the Detroit Lions up for what they are calling their retooling of the team under new leadership, from the top down. With Matthew Stafford heading to the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff coming to Detroit, the Lions will have a new identity on offense. After last year’s dumpster fire, they desperately need one on defense. The new management team has been making good moves thus far, but their off-season prowess will be fully judged on their performance in the 2021 NFL Draft. There is a lot at stake, we’ll see if they are up to the task.

In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff are back to discuss the Detroit Lions first home playoff win at Ford Field. We'll also discuss the opportunity presented to the Detroit Lions to win their second playoff game in a season, for the first time in history. Its been a long time since the Detroit Lions have checked all the boxes for their fans in a season, and for many the goalposts are moving as the team marches toward its first Super Bowl appearance ever. After no national confidence in the Detroit Lions ahead of their game against the Los Angeles Rams (which we will discuss), there is surging confidence for the Lions ahead of their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Detroit Lions Podcast Is Ready For The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

While the Detroit Lions have already faced the Bucs in Tampa this year (and beaten them), this will be no walk in the park. Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers are a renewed team with bolstered confidence and fiery offense that is ready to take the top off of an unwary defense. While the Detroit Lions have no reason to be overconfident, there is risk of that and the fans falling a little flat after the emotional win over Matthew Stafford and the Rams last week. We'll talk about that, injuries, the story lines, the rematch, and a whole lot more on the Detroit Lions Podcast! Buckle up, its going to be a wild ride.

In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff are pleased to continue our coverage of the Detroit Lions ongoing push toward the top of the NFC. After an amazing, .grit-fueled comeback against the Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions were watching intently for the Kansas City Chiefs to take down the Philadelphia Eagles, except, that didn't happen. Wet hands, slippery ball, or wide receivers that are allergic to catching - whatever the reason, the Kansas City Chiefs disappointed Lions fans by choking away what should have been their game to win. That leave the Lions sitting in the same spot in their quest for the top seed in the NFC, second behind the Eagles. Philadelphia has a tough stretch of schedule ahead, but things are looking just a little bit more difficult for the Lions after week 11 heading into a short week for the annual Thanksgiving Day Game in which the Detroit Lions will play the Green Bay Packers.

Detroit Lions Podcast Ready To Carve Up The Packers

The Detroit Lions Podcast will continue to bring you the best in Detroit Lions news, rumors, and information this week across all of our shows. In this episode of the podcast we will take a look ahead to the Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers game coming up on Thanksgiving Day after the annual Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade. What should the Lions be looking for against the Packers? Can they notch another win on a short week? Having some extra time to heal after this game is going to be an added bonus for our boys before their ongoing run to take their throne as Kings of the North and to make a play for the NFC Crown. As usual, the Detroit Lions Podcast has your complete Detroit Lions coverage.

The Detroit Lions Podcast - [452] New York Jets Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast Reacts
play

12/19/22 • 118 min

In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman are back to react to the result of the Detroit Lions and New York Jets game. Lions win celebration? Detroit Lions loss therapy? We’re always ready for whatever comes, and we’re here to help you along the way. The biggest question facing the Lions and Detroit Lions fans, does Jameson Williams contribution signal start of a Lions run to the playoffs? This game will be a key decider on whether the Detroit Lions remain in the hunt for a playoff opportunity. This is a crucial game for the Detroit Lions and will define whether the Lions have a road to the playoffs.

Detroit Lions Podcast Reacts

The New York Jets have been stout on defense, with the addition of Sauce Gardner this year, Jet’s fans have been treated to a great defensive show. Ben Johnson and the Detroit Lions offense will be tasked with finding weaknesses on this strong New York Jets defense. If the Lions can get Jameson Williams involved and begin stretching the New York Jets defense downfield, they may be able to open up key routes for DJ Chark and Amon Ra St Brown. The best offensive weapon the Lions have is speed and using it to create openings in the New York Jets defense. One of the best early indicators of success will be the Detroit Lions offense ability to score. They put up the points, and they’ll have every chance to walk away winners this week.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Lions have to play tight and with the same type of success as they have in recent weeks. The New York Jets biggest weakness is their offense and Zack Wilson looks to have the start for the Jets, which bodes well for the Lions. If Aidan Hutchinson and and Alim McNeil can continue their strong run and keep the pressure on Zach Wilson, it could be a productive day for the Detroit Lions defense. The Detroit Lions defense will need to play the New York Jets defense very closely to win this game.

This game is key to the future of the Detroit Lions 2022 NFL season and playoff hopes. The New York Jets are very much in the same boat – both teams have a lot to gain out of a win this week. Buckle up, its going to be a great show!

Speaking of “buckle up”, make sure to head over to our project with Detroit Lions shutdown cornerback Jerry Jacobs to help charities in Detroit. Its a great opportunity to get some great gear and make a difference in the city we all love.

The Detroit Lions Podcast - Ep: 355 – Lions Show Big Heart – Detroit Lions Podcast
play

09/16/21 • 115 min

Welcome to the Detroit Lions Podcast Post Game Show! The Detroit Lions finished their first game of the season with a notch in the loss column, but it was so much more than that. Looking at the standings table doesn’t tell the story either. The entire division lost and the Lions are tied for first after week one.

Detroit Lions Podcast Sees Potential

The game against the San Francisco 49ers left Detroit Lions fans with a lot of hope, even in the face of that loss. The team showed more heart than we’ve seen from them in over three years. Any other Lions team would have given up before the second half even started. This team wouldn’t let the 49ers hang the big L on them and rallied back from a 38-10 deficit to take the outcome of the game down to their last possession. This showed the maturity of a team much older and more experienced. This gave the players and coaches a lot to build on. I would categorize this as one of the most fun losses this team has ever had.

Conversely, probably the biggest blow to the Lions hopes this season was the loss of Jeff Okudah to a ruptured Achilles in the opening game against the San Francisco 49ers. The second year player was the clear number one cornerback for the Lions and the team has its second week against two of the best in the league in the Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. Okudah will be impossible to replace, even with a ‘next man up’ mentality, but this definitely lines up with the Detroit Lions youth movement and their efforts to build, grow, and evaluate talent for next year and going forward.

We will also cover, Josh Gordon rumors, Penei Sewell’s performance and potential future at left tackle, as well as Jared Goff’s performance and what we can expect from him and the team going forward.

play

07/26/19 • 96 min

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Case, and Sandman cover the kickoff of Detroit Lions Training Camp! We discuss the end of Snacks and Darius Slay holding out, the fact that we are now credentialed media at training camp, Matt Patricia’s injury, Lions 2019 top prospects, Roster Predictions, Power Rankings, adjustments, the hill, and a whole lot more! This is a huge episode jam packed with great Lions info to kick off training camp right.

Detroit Lions Podcast – Sandman In The House!

We start off welcoming Sandman to the show this week, he will be joining us in our coverage of the Lions Training Camp this year – look for some great reporting from him about what he sees and how this team has changed year over year. He had a keen eye for what last year would look like, and he started calling it from the second week of training camp last year. We’re excited to have him continue to share his talents with us.

Next on the Detroit Lions Podcast, we talk about the end of the Slay and Snacks holdouts – huzzah! No more arguments between Chris and Case about the semantics of that one. It could have been a long season otherwise. They may be starting under the NFI designation, but we’ll tell you why not to worry and to be happy for day one of camp.

Living The Football Fantasy

So much more, our Detroit Lions Podcast Fantasy Football season has opened up! We have made big changes this year as a result of your feedback – no IDP leagues, it’s all team defense, no more cross-league competition it’s you against 11 others for that first place cash, we’ve even got a few Pick ‘Em leagues! /u/A5hcrack did the math and realized we’ve quadrupled the number of prizes. Check it out and sign up at http://DetroitLionsPodcast.com/store

We discuss TJ Hockenson and his great day 1 play. Matt Patricia and his injury. Lions Top Prospects for 2019 in DaShawn Hand, Tracy Walker, and Tyrell Crosby. Early roster predictions, the adaptability of Matt Patricia, “The Hill” and a whole lot more. Case even takes the Detroit Lions Podcast ‘Around The Division’.

Third Annual Detroit Lions Podcast Training Camp Party!

Also, don’t forget about the Third Annual Detroit Lions Podcast Training Camp Party!! Dean Blandino, (likely) Dan Miller, Jeff Risdon, Case, Sandman, and Chris will all be there. The Detroit Lions Podcast - Ep: 195 – Lions OC Hunt Continues – The Detroit Lions Podcast
play

01/11/19 • 46 min

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case take ahold of the microphones while Jeff Risdon is away covering the Jim Bob Cooter interview with the Cleveland Browns for Brownswire – poor guy. Fear not, the boys fight through Case’s failing internet connection to bring you the most important and pertinent Detroit Lions news today. They also talk about another leap that the show will be taking as we push to bring you the best Lions content in the most engaging formats.

Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Hires and Fires

The first order of business this week is to cover the recent front office move at the Vice President of Football Operations position. Bob Quinn hire Matt Harriss is out and Mike Disner is in. Chris calls an immediate Super Bowl victory as a result. Case tempers Chris’s enthusiasm with talk about finance, the time value of money, and spreadsheets. Suffice it to say, we won’t be hearing much from Matt in the coming year.

Then we get into the boring stuff and talk about Offensive Coordinator candidates. Things seem pretty quiet around the team right now and everyone knows, that’s when a Lion strikes. The Detroit Lions Podcast discusses some of the previous possibilities that were mocked the Lions way, many of which have now been hired elsewhere. Still a pretty wide open group of candidates to choose from, and no real indications from the team as to where they may be looking.

After pillorying Michael David Smith of PFT, we look ahead to next year’s schedule. As of today the breakdown of who we play and where we play them seems to favor the Lions bringing us the more difficult teams at home and some of the easier ones on the road. There is a lot of offseason to go, but it felt right to take an early look.

Heading Around The Division

After that we take the longest look ‘Around the Division’ that we’ve had in the show’s history. We start with the Chicago Bears and have a little fun at their expense as a result of their elimination from the playoffs last week. From there we walk over the Green Bay Packers and their new head coach hire on the way to poke the Minnesota Vikings a bit.

Daily DLP: Sinking The Buccaneers Offense

Welcome to the Detroit Lions Podcast Daily DLP. Today Ash Thompson Digs into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense, and what the Detroit Lions defense needs to do to stop them. The two teams faced off in week 6 and the Detroit Lions only allowed 6 points.

The Detroit Lions need to stop Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a low quality rushing attack, and so it really is the passing game that the Detroit Lions need to focus on. How much attention are they willing to pull away from the run game?
