Blue Ridge Rock Fest here we go again, this time with Day 4 band, A War Within from Detroit Michigan

Based in Detroit MI, A War Within consists of members Spencer Maybe, Nikhil Rao, Zac Bardsley, and Roy Guldenpfennig. The band prides itself on intense live performances and dynamic music that combines technicality with accessibility; crushingly heavy sections that are perfectly balanced by delicate melody.
The band was initially founded by prior members in 2014. The debut release was a music video for “Holding On”, and following this came the release of the debut album, “Sons of Saturn”. The record lead to touring with The Paramedic, Sycamour, It Lies Within, Darkness Divided, Spence and Words like Daggers.

In 2016, the band released their second full length record, “Believe”, and embarked on several full US tours. The year saw them touring with Blessthefall, Miss May I, The Plot in You, Sirens & Sailors, Divisions, Versus, Darkness Divided and Convictions. A busy year on the road was ended with a few weeks in Portland, Oregon recording with producer Kris Crummett (Sleeping with Sirens, Issues, Dance Gavin Dance).

In 2017, the band began releasing the material recorded with Kris, including the two singles “Where the Lines are Drawn” and “Wallflower”. They also toured the East Coast relentlessly, joined by Never I, Alteras, The Few, and Icaria. In the winter of 2017, they began pre-production on their third full length record.

The band has earned a consistent following in the Detroit scene, resulting in shows with Attila, The Color Morale, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, For the Fallen Dreams, and more. They have also had the privilege of playing the Detroit date of Van’s Warped Tour in both 2015 and 2018. Currently, the band is finishing self-producing and recording their third full length record. They are eagerly anticipating releasing the album and continuing to tour in support of it!

Indie artist OSLO is thrilled to announce their debut album, Great Places, set to be released on May 20th via their label Christmas Records. Self-produced and mixed by OSLO and mastered by Paul Leavitt (The Dangerous Summer, The Used, Turnstile), Great Places is an album born in isolation. The first single “Loma Prieta” is premiering now, exclusively on Brooklyn Vegan. To pre-save Great Places, please visit: smarturl.it/50sxxi.

Speaking on the new album, OSLO shares, “Great Places was written and recorded during a time of great anxiety, doubt and confusion for myself and the world in general. It’s about confronting the things we can’t control and clutching to the belief that there are better times ahead, especially when it doesn’t feel that way.”

He continues: “’Loma Prieta’ is about feeling like a disaster, even when you try to do the right thing and be the right person for everyone in your life. The video was filmed by Eric Elkin in the Palmer Square neighborhood of Chicago

OSLO is the brainchild of musician/songwriter/producer TJ Horansky. After nearly a decade of touring, 2020 forced the Chicago-based songwriter to hit the brakes and take a good look inward. OSLO is both a creative outlet and experiment in self-sufficiency. Learning how to produce, engineer and mix independently was a byproduct of the Covid-19 quarantine.

INSECT ARK, the long-running exploratory endeavor led by Dana Schechter, recently released its Future Fossils EP, an alluring collection of solo archived outtakes, excerpts, and live improv tracks born between 2016 and 2018, via Belgium’s Consouling Sounds.

When Dana Schechter started INSECT ARK as her “true” solo project in 2012, she set out to build desolate and hallucinogenic galaxies of sound entirely on her own. Writing and playing solo offered an escape into the deepest realms of self-reflection, dredging and birthing a hitherto sonic beast that was, it turns out, utterly unhinged and totally liberating. Focusing on experimental, drone, noise, and avant-garde noise, INSECT ARK’s first years produced records that were raw, ominous, and totally unique. While defying comparison, these new sounds possessed Schechter’s distinct musical spirit, woven throughout her twenty-plus years of band/collaboration work.

After three releases (2012’s Collapsar7”, 2013’s Long Arms10”, 2015’s Portal/WellLP), INSECT ARK added live drums to the mix, and the resulting albums — 2018’s Marrow Hymns (with drummer Ashley Spungin) and 2020’s The Vanishing (with drummer Andy Patterson) — showed that her singular vision could also expand into heavier and more crushing territory within a collaborative space. The power that live drums brought to INSECT ARK helped gather a new fan base in the heavy-music world, adding another layer to the band’s palette.

Now, after nine years of existence, INSECT ARK has come full circle to once again embrace solo work on 2021’s Future Fossils.

If you enjoy the melodic content of Paramore, and the character themes of Slipknot, then you have found the perfect matchup in GFM. The three sisters of GFM started taking music lessons around the age of five, and all three ended up falling in love with music. As they grew up, they decided that they wanted to pursue this love for music professionally and have been putting blood and sweat into creating a business and career out of GFM. The most important goal of GFM is to use their gifts to reach people for God and to always spread a positive message. The stage is their home, and they want to share their home with their fans. GFM is not your average teenage girl band... they’re sisters for crying out loud. Their musical journey began in 2016 when they worked on their first album “Identity Crisis” with producers Jake Jones and Justin Forshaw (formerly of We as Human). In 2017, the girls went on their first U.S. tour, and the demand was so strong for GFM that they went out again the following year in 2018 on another U.S. tour, finishing out the touring season with their first trip to Germany for a festival. GFM was met with thousands of loving fans and instantly became a festival favorite. In 2019, GFM released their much-anticipated EP “Oh, The Horror!” after working with Eric Varnell and Billy Decker (Uncle Kracker, Sam Hunt). GFM headlined their own summer U.S. tour, and again were called to perform in Germany at the end of the year. 2020 contained GFM’s first acoustic tour, along with the release of their first two singles off of their upcoming EP “Operation Take Over.” GFM had peaked Joey Sturgis’ (Blessthefall, Asking Alexandria, Of Mice & Men) interest, and he got involved in the producing process alongside Eric Varnell and Billy Decker. While on lockdown, GFM started the very first E-Tour, taking over various social media pages for over 20 dates of performing via livestream. They were able to do a short summer run as well, despite the pandemic situation, attracting several premieres and features from Alternative Press and front-page features in several magazines and newspapers across the nation.

The Dark Side Of Music With Derek Hanjora - #310: Hollywood Rockers BUDDERSIDE Tackle Mental Health Issues in New Single "Too Far"
play

12/07/21 • 63 min

Hollywood, CA rock outfit BUDDERSIDE share their latest single, “Too Far,” available today across all digital platforms. The track is taken from their upcoming summer 2022 record via one RPM and was recorded with producer Matt Good (Asking Alexandria, Hollywood Undead). The song gives a harrowing look into what can happen when people are pushed to the edge and things go ‘’too far.” Its music video, filmed at several iconic locations on the famed Sunset Strip including the Whisky a-Go-Go and The Rainbow Bar & Grill , premiered yesterday (12/2) via antiMusic. Directed by Vicente Cordero (Industrial Films LA), it shares a visually graphic dramatization tackling mental health issues and triggers.

“We are all so close to the edge,” says vocalist Patrick Alan Stone. “Saying something kind could save a life. It’s easy to be reckless, but what we do and say can push people too far. Hollywood is the city of dreams, where they are born and die every day. I’ve seen good people murder over infidelity. I’ve lost my sister and my two closest friends to suicide over broken hearts, others to overdose--all just trying to ease the pain of a cruel world.”

“‘Too Far’ is about the struggle I’ve gone through with depression and suicidal thoughts after being f*cked over by people around me. I took that depression and turned it into rage to create a song that strips away all of the b.s. It’s a reminder to others to not push people too far, because they can snap and hurt themselves or even others. Just an honest cry for the world to do the right thing. If someone you know is in need of help, you’re not alone. Call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (1-800-273-8255) or 911, there is help.”

Make no mistake; the Colorado based Fire Folllows is here on business. Founded, crafted, and led by musician, producer, and writer Chris Watt, the band delivers a melodic, yet heavy rock sound that is defined by anthemic choruses, beautiful piano interludes, and the perfect blend of rap/scream/sing vocals. In an effort to build a dynamic band that is capable of touring in 2021, Chris brought in seasoned musicians Tim Yunker (second vocals) and Emily Gould (drums). Their influence can be immediately felt on the newest “Glass Grenade” release, showcasing Tim’s gospel/soul inspired vocal stylings, and Emily’s dynamic and precise drumming techniques. Fire Follows gained tremendous industry attention with the “If It’s War You Want” EP release in 2019, and expects that trend to continue with the 5 song “Glass Grenade” release in 2020. The songs demonstrate Chris’s ever evolving writing style, and with a radio ready production quality, are sure to cut through the industry noise. The sophomore release utilizes more scream vocals than it’s predecessor, and the addition of Tim and Emily has taken the overall sound to a whole new level. The hooky choruses are sure to produce multiple hits, and will be enjoyed by fans from pop, classical, and country genres, in addition to traditional hard-rock/meal fans.
The group is already writing for the next album, and actively rehearsing in preparation of touring once the industry gets back on the rails. Want to learn more about the band and its members? Head over to the YouTube channel where you can watch Podcast style dialogues between Chris, Tim, and Emily in studio.

Quebec City, Canada's Our Darkest Days have just announced a new album “Snakes & Ladders” and are debuting a new single titled “These Fast Times" (ft. Steve Rawles of Belvedere).

The album will be released digitally and on CD on November 19th via Thousand Islands Records (North America) and Lockjaw Records (UK/Europe). Vinyl will ship first half of 2022.

Stream "These Fast Times" and Pre-Order The LP Here: https://ourdarkestdays.lnk.to/thesefasttimes

The ferocious follow up to 2016's 'A Common Agony' features lightning fast skatepunk tuneage and is the band’s most technical and refined music to date. Includes guest artists Steve Rawles (Belvedere), Étienne Dionne (Mute), Geir Pedersen (Adhesive) and Valérie Morin.

Of the new single, "These Fast Times," the band says, "We live in a lifetime where our lives are laid out on a strict timeline. The hourglass empties itself at a fast pace but we are so blinded by evolution, that we hardly see the end of its race. As we grew up younger, it seemed like we weren't so rushed to live our lives ; possibly the main source of that was the lack of technology and progress as we see it today. Maybe it’s time to go back to our old habits and live more instead of consuming more. We may have evolved as per say, but in another way it seems like we’re getting further away from how our human lives were intended to thrive."

Cursor’s journey has continued to evolve since the release of their debut EP Seeking Connection in 2018 and with the anticipated release of Pharos in 2020. Since that time, Luke, Josh, Derek and Keith have continued to blend genres and create a sound all their own while never forgetting their musical roots or what made them pick up their instruments in the first place.

Guitarist/vocalist Luke, lays down riffs that blend both groove and atmosphere while belting out heartfelt lyrics with infectious melodies. While, lead guitarist Josh, swirls over them with searing leads that take you from captivating highs to crushing lows alongside Derek’s earthquake inducing subharmonic bass. All the while, Keith’s dynamic drumming with eruptions of both emotion and intensity complete Cursor’s unapologetic sound that is too heavy for some and not punishing enough for others. Melding metal dynamics and post-rock structure with pop melodies gives Cursor a sound all their own.

During 2020, the band wrote and recorded Pharos in Richmond, Va. with Will Beasley (The Dangerous Summer, Turnstile, Asking Alexandria) with a release date set for 12/31. The record is a journey through all the trials and tribulations that was 2020 and marks a transformative moment for the band. 2021 looks brighter than ever for Cursor and Pharos guides the way.

https://youtu.be/PQkx1uZch3Q

Awake At Last returned with a new single "Bloodline" on April 29th. Produced by Erik Ron (Godsmack, Black Veil Brides, I Prevail), the hard-hitting track contains plenty of angst at the current state of the world. “Bloodline is written from a perspective of frustration, and a reluctance to accept the current state we all live in. The song questions the media, and how during such a dark time people seemed to be more divided than ever, rather than come together. It asks the question of whether or not we can learn from history, or if we are doomed to repeat it. I wanted it to connect to the listeners who couldn’t help but worry about what is going to happen next and whether or not we can rely on the current state of media and information to be prepared for it.” - says the band's vocalist, Vincent Torres.
