The Cycling Podcast
Racing is about to re-start. The Vuelta a Burgos gets underway next Tuesday and the first major stage race on the calendar in more than four months features a high quality field, including Nairo Quintana, Remco Evenepoel, Richard Carapaz and the Yates brothers, Simon and Adam.
Lionel Birnie, Daniel Friebe and Richard Moore look ahead to Burgos and pick out one thing each that fascinates them about the resumption of racing.
For Daniel, it's whether Quintana can maintain the form that he showed early in 2020, when he appeared re-born with his new team, Arkéa-Samsic. For Richard, it's the Ineos intrigue with Chris Froome and Egan Bernal potentially in the same Tour de France team. And for Lionel it's the fact that almost an entire season is crammed into a little more than three months – how will it all work and what patterns might emerge?

Ride London
Richard was due to do Ride London in aid of their charity of the year, Pancreatic Cancer UK, having lost his mum to pancreatic cancer in 2005. With the event cancelled, this charity has lost a major source of funding. An alternative event, MyRideLondon (https://myridelondon.co.uk), aims to get as many people as possible riding on the same weekend, 15 and 16 August, and raising money for a charity of their choice. Richard will be trying to ride 100 miles in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK. S8 Ep85: Life in the Peloton – The racing restart mailbag with Luke Durbridge

Back in March, Mitch Docker was planning to travel to Tuscany to race on the white roads for the first time. But the coronavirus pandemic meant Strade Bianche was postponed and for the best part of five months the peloton has been in suspended animation – training, racing indoors and waiting for the resumption.
This week, Mitch heads to Italy for his first race but before he travelled he got together with his good friend Luke Durbridge of Mitchelton-Scott to preview the race and answer listeners' questions.
In this episode find out why Strade Bianche can suit both the Classics specialists and the climbers, why climbing on the white roads is similar to climbing on the cobbles, and get some insight into how Luke maintains his focus during time trials.

Theme music
The theme music for Life in the Peloton was composed by Pete Shelley, who was lead singer of the punk band Buzzcocks. It was commissioned by the production company behind Channel 4’s coverage of the Tour de France in the 1980s and was used as the theme music for the nightly highlights show. Pete died in December 2018. We were given permission by Pete’s widow and his manager to continue using the music for the theme tune to Life in the Peloton. To hear more about the music, listen to the Andre Greipel episode of Life in the Peloton.
