Εύη Παπαδοπούλου, Επιμελήτρια Προϊστορικών Αρχαιοτήτων στο Μουσείο Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης συνομιλεί με την Μαριέττα Κυπριωτάκη, Βοηθό Επιμελήτρια Αρχαιοτήτων στο Μουσείο Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης, για την ιστορία της γυναίκας από τους Προϊστορικούς Χρόνους έως την Κλασική Αρχαιότητα στη πόλη-κράτος της Αθήνας. Η συζήτηση ξεκινά από τον Κυκλαδικό Πολιτισμό και τα αινιγματικά ειδώλια που θεοποιούν τη γυναικεία μορφή και εξυμνούν τη γονιμότητα, ενώ στη συνέχεια προχωρούν σε μία εκτενή αναφορά στις θεϊκές και μυθικές γυναίκες που παραμένουν γνωστές σε όλους έως σήμερα. Πώς ήταν όμως η καθημερινή ζωή των γυναικών στη κλασική Αθήνα; Οι δύο αρχαιολόγοι εξιστορούν τις ενδιαφέρουσες πτυχές σε ορισμένα από τα σημαντικότερα γεγόνοτα στη καθημερινότητας μίας αρχαίας Αθηναίας όπως το μυστήριο του γάμου, τα καθήκοντα του έγγαμου βίου και ο καίριος ρόλος στις ταφικές τελετές.

In this episode Dr. Evy Papadopoulou, Curator of Prehistoric Antiquities at the Museum of Cycladic Art talks with Marietta Kypriotaki, Assistant Curator of Antiquities at the Museum of Cycladic Art, about the history of women from the Prehistoric Ages to the Classical Antiquity in the city-state of Athens. The discussion begins with the Cycladic Civilization and the enigmatic figurines that deify the female form and glorify fertility, and then proceed to an extensive reference to the divine and mythical women who remain praised to all to this day. But what was the daily life of women like in classical Athens? The two archaeologists chronicle the interesting aspects of some of the most important events in the daily life of an ancient Athenian such as the sacrament of marriage, the duties of married life and the key role in burial ceremonies.

In this episode, Aphrodite Gonou, Contemporary Art Program Advisor at the Museum of Cycladic Art, discusses with Gregor Muir, Director of Collection, International Art at Tate, the past exhibition of Louise Bourgeois titled “Personages” which was presented in 2010 at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, Greece. Muir shares insights into Bourgeois’ life and practice, discusses her impact on contemporary art and future artist generations and his memories of the audience’s enthusiastic reception of the show. The exhibition “Nuds” by British artist Sarah Lucas, which was presented simultaneously at the Museum, widens the discussion about the role of women artists in art and the difficulties they face, as well as current efforts for inclusivity addressed by museums today.

Αναστασία Χριστοφιλοπούλου, Κύρια Επιμελήτρια της Αρχαίας Μεσογείου στο Μουσείο Fitzwilliam και μέλος του Ινστιτούτου McDonald για την Αρχαιολογική Έρευνα στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Cambridge και συζητούν για το ζήτημα της «νησιωτικότητας», των νησιωτικών δικτύων αλλά και της ίδιας της θάλασσας. Με αφορμή την έκθεση “Islanders: TheMakingoftheMediterranean” την οποία και επιμελήθηκε στο FitzwilliamMuseum του Cambridge ο διάλογος περιστρέφεται γύρω από την πολιτιστική και κοινωνική ταυτότητα των κατοίκων στα νησιά, την έννοια των δικτύων καθώς και τις αλλαγές του νησιωτικού φυσικού περιβάλλοντος εξαιτίας της κλιματικής αλλαγής.

In this episode, Aphrodite Gonou, Contemporary Art Program Advisor at the Museum of Cycladic Art, invites Dimitrios Antonitsis, artist and founder of the Hydra School Projects initiative, to discuss the exhibition “Brice Marden and Greek Antiquity” that Dimitrios curated in 2022 at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, Greece. A close friend of Marden’s for more than twenty years, Dimitrios shares insightful aspects of the renowned artist’s practice and philosophy of life, as well as the unique and intimate choices of the artworks included in the exhibition. They also talk about Hydra, the island that still inspires many artists today and finally about Dimitrios’ art and his ongoing Hydra School Projects.

Σε αυτό το επεισόδιο, η Αφροδίτη Γκόνου, Σύμβουλος Προγράμματος Σύγχρονης Τέχνης του Μουσείου Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης, προσκαλεί τον Δημήτρη Αντωνίτση, καλλιτέχνη και ιδρυτή του HydraSchoolProjects, να συζητήσουν για την έκθεση «BriceMardenandGreekAntiquity» που επιμελήθηκε ο ίδιος το 2022 στο Μουσείο Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης. Στενός φίλος του Marden για περισσότερα από είκοσι χρόνια, ο Αντωνίτσης μοιράζεται ενδιαφέρουσες πτυχές της πρακτικής και της φιλοσοφίας ζωής του διάσημου καλλιτέχνη, καθώς και τις πολύ προσωπικές επιλογές έργων του καλλιτέχνη που συμπεριλήφθηκαν στην έκθεση. Στη συνέχεια, η συζήτηση εστιάζει στην Ύδρα, το νησί που συνεχίζει να εμπνέει πολλούς καλλιτέχνες ακόμη και σήμερα, ενώ τέλος, συζητούν για το καλλιτεχνικό έργο του Αντωνίτση και το HydraSchoolProjects.

Σε αυτό το επεισόδιο, η Αφροδίτη Γκόνου, Σύμβουλος Προγράμματος Σύγχρονης Τέχνης του Μουσείου Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης, συνομιλεί με τη Jessica Morgan, Διευθύντρια στο Dia Art Foundation στη Νέα Υόρκη, για την έκθεση «The Last Grand Tour | Σύγχρονοι Περιηγητές στην Ελλάδα» που επιμελήθηκε για το Μουσείο Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης το 2011. Συζητούν για το πώς αυτή η έκθεση κατάφερε να παρουσιάσει μαζί για πρώτη φορά το έργο διεθνώς καταξιωμένων καλλιτεχνών, οι οποίοι έζησαν και δημιούργησαν στην Ελλάδα κατά τη διάρκεια του 20ού αιώνα. Στη συνέχεια, συζητούν για τις προκλήσεις του ρόλου της ως διευθύντριας του Dia, αλλά και για το αμείωτο ενδιαφέρον της για την τέχνη που αναπτύσσεται εκτός των αστικών κέντρων του δυτικού κόσμου. Καταλήγουν στην αναδρομική έκθεση της Ελληνίδας πρωτοπόρου καλλιτέχνιδας Chryssa που διοργανώθηκε το 2023 στο Dia και στη συνεισφορά της στη σύγχρονη τέχνη.

They discuss how the exhibition brought together for the first time works by internationally renowned artists who lived and worked in Greece during the twentieth century. As the conversation broadens, Morgan discusses her role and challenges as director at the Dia Art Foundation and her ongoing interest in the peripheries of the art world. Morgan also talks about Dia’s 2023 retrospective of the Greek pioneer artist Chryssa and her contribution to contemporary art.
