Hana Afifi: Keys to Growing Up
In this episode, our founder, Nour Hassan speaks to contemporary artist extraordinaire, Hana Afifi.
Hana Afifi is a multi-disciplinary artist and sculptor, hailing from Alexandra, and currently residing in Cairo where she staged her second solo exhibition “The Keys to Growing Up” at her personal workspace and home. The exhibition took place in the very same space that played an integral part in the artist’s personal and artistic evolution, which allowed guests to experience a more holistic appreciation and understanding of the art on display. Her paintings are an invitation into the brilliant and complex mind of the artist; ever-evolving, contemplating, and disrupting, brimming with emotional power and raw energy with the self-taught artist Hana herself being the common denominator.
They speak about the three-year journey of creating her solo exhibition, the keys to growing up, how transformation leads to brilliance, finding joy in the darkest places, capturing the essence of forgotten childhood naiveties, and the significance of the teddy bear in her work.
