#106 - Jacob Boler - Kids Over Everything
The County Line
07/17/23 • 136 min
Jacob Boler is founder and director of "K.O.E: Kids Over Everything," a local charity organization focused on providing support for children in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
This episode is primarily focused on the history, evolution, and current state of the Philadelphia Public School District in Philadelphia, Mississippi. The problems that persist in the Philadelphia Public Schools are not unique to Philadelphia and should not be reflected as an indictment of the children that have attended, or currently attend the institution. Nor should sole blame be placed on previous or current administration officials alone.
Instead, the subpar educational environment that continues to exist in the Philadelphia Public School District should be blamed on the entire community of Philadelphia and Neshoba County, Mississippi. For decades, our community has turned a blind eye to obvious problems that have contributed to the abysmal educational circumstances we continue to place our children in day after day.
Families continue to skirt the residential requirements and leaders continue to sit idly by without addressing the issue. School choice will not be discussed, nor will the issue of consolidation be raised by school board leaders. So called leaders and community pillars are withholding their power to act and impact change. As a result of this inaction, children within the Philadelphia Public School District are being sent into an educational environment which is ripe for perpetual failure. Most parents recognize this fact and opt to find a way, legally or illegally, to send their child to a school not operated by the Philadelphia Public School District.
I have personal opinions regarding solutions to the issue that continues to plague our community. However, the purpose of this episode is not to tout our personal solutions to a very complex issue. Our intention is to spur a public discourse regarding the problem and hopefully begin discussions surrounding how we can better equip ALL of our young people for life in this ever changing world.
At The County Line, we believe difficult problems should be discussed publicly and potential solutions should be vetted out via transparent public discourse. It is our hope that a discussion focused on educational improvements for children in Philadelphia, Mississippi will be the result of this episode. We can and should do better for our children and their futures!
As always, The County Line welcomes discussion with and feedback from all parties who feel inclined to voice their opinion.

#125 - Greta Kemp Martin
The County Line
10/25/23 • 75 min
Join us for a candid conversation with Mississippi Attorney General candidate, Greta Kemp Martin. Greta, with her deep-rooted history in law and her passionate advocacy at Disability Rights Mississippi, touches upon her perceived palpable shift in the voting mindset, where voters are choosing the individual over party lines.
In the course of our discussion, we try to unravel the complexities surrounding the Dobbs Decision and the Attorney General's office. Greta's observations suggest a questionable representation of the Department of Human Services by a private firm and an alarming absence of the Attorney General's office in the investigation. She also shares her perspective on key issues like gun laws, felon rights, and the inappropriate use of taxpayer dollars by Attorney General Fitch to manipulate other states' policymaking.
We then delve into the heart of Mississippi, unearthing the challenges that the state grapples with, such as dire political polarization, failing mental health systems, and the dire need for community-centered resources in rural locales. Greta provides her insights into these pressing issues and articulates her plans to confront them, should she be elected as Attorney General. This episode offers a rare, insightful glimpse into the heart of Mississippi politics, making it an essential listen for anyone wishing to understand the political undercurrents better.
