Christmas is a time often associated with joy but it can be very challenging for those who have lost a loved one. The Christmas season seems to highlight the profound loss even more.
Licensed Therapist, Mary Weber, is back to help us unpack why the holiday season makes coping with death and grief feel harder and gives us practical tips for honoring ourselves, our feelings and those we have lost.
Friends, if you are coping with a loss this Christmas, you are not alone. God sees you. God loves you. And God is always with you.
Note: The day after this interview, I got an email from Mary that shared some additional thoughts around Grief & Christmas. Her additional words were so powerful that I asked for her permission to share them with you. Take 30 seconds and get her words at adamweber.com/grief
And if you didn’t catch last week’s episode about Navigating Stress & Anxiety, listen here.

The Conversation with Adam Weber - Episode 261 - Carlos Whittaker: 7 weeks without a Screen
play

08/14/24 • 35 min

On today’s episode of the podcast, I have a conversation with my good friend, Carlos Whittaker.
Carlos is many things (pastor, speaker, author), but you might best know him through his Instagram @loswhit.
Well, Carlos recently conducted a 7-week experiment where he didn’t look at a single screen. Think about that. Literally no screen (while traveling through airports, the tv in his home, maps on his phone... none of it!). Instead, he spent time with Benedictine monks and Amish farmers, learning the art of reconnecting with life beyond his screens.
Listen in as Carlos shares the valuable things he learned and gives us super practical steps we can take to reset our relationship with screens and step into a life of real connection with one another. Note: We also talk about our world being offended!

In today’s conversation, I spent time with my good friend, Sandy Millar.
At 84 years old, Sandy has loads of wisdom to share so I sit down to ask him questions that were submitted by my friends, family and podcast listeners.
We cover everything from facing your own mortality to being called to ministry.
Sandy was the former vicar (pastor) of HTB Church and has been the pastor to some of the most influential pastors in England including Nicky Gumbel, Ken Costa, and Nicky Lee.
I genuinely hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!

Today I’m joined by pastor and author Nick Connolly.
He and his wife, Jess, are founding pastors at Bright City Church in South Carolina.
At the end of 2023, Nick was rushed to the hospital for what he thought were cardiac events but would later learn were severe panic attacks.
This led to 12 of the darkest days he’s ever experienced. No sleep. Spiritual warfare. And many, many more extreme panic attacks.
“But I thought he was a pastor?” (Yes, pastors are human too!)
Nick shares some advice for those who may have experienced similar struggles. We also unpack trusting God’s provision in our lives and how being persistent when you experience resistance - and NOT giving up - can lead to victory on the other side.

The Conversation with Adam Weber - Episode 214 - Pursuing Honesty with Yourself & God with Jennifer Dukes Lee
play

08/23/23 • 28 min

What would you say if you were completely honest with yourself and with God? It’s time to find out!
In today’s conversation, Adam sits down with his friend Jennifer Dukes Lee to talk about her new guided journal Stuff I'd Only Tell God.
Jennifer lives on a farm in northwest Iowa, she is an author, an acquisitions editor with Baker Books & she has a heart of gold.
Adam typically leans away from talking about a guest’s book, but this week he’s leaning in.
With daring questions, provocative lists, and quirky charts and illustrations, this journal is a place to record all the stuff you’d only tell God: ideas, beliefs, secrets, memories, wonderings, and wishes. You’ll find the space, the courage, and the help you need to unearth the real you... The you that is sometimes buried deep beneath a layer of self-protection.
If you find it hard to be honest with God or maybe you struggle being honest with yourself... this episode is for you!

The Conversation with Adam Weber - Episode 228 - The Messiness of Moving Forward with Jason VanRuler
play

11/29/23 • 28 min

If you’ve ever felt stuck in your past, today’s episode is for you.
I sit down with Jason VanRuler, a licensed therapist (in my eyes, the best in our country), author, speaker, and coach. He’s also someone who has dealt with his own past: childhood trauma, alcohol & drug use, and bouts of depression.
More than anything else, Jason is my dear friend and someone who deeply loves Jesus.
Jason has found healing and is determined to help others do the same by facing their past, owning their present and casting a vision for the future.
With a beautiful combination of grace and truth (and a witty humor), Jason helps us find the courage to be vulnerable about our stories and helps us take tangible steps toward healing.

In today's conversation I sit down with Archie Coates, the vicar (pastor) of Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) in London, one of the most influential churches in the world.
Archie discusses the purpose of the Church, the importance of intentional diversity within the Church, and the dynamic role of the Holy Spirit at HTB.

One of my favorite parts: Archie shares what he’s learned from vicars Sandy Millar and Nicky Gumbel and how he’s worked through the challenges of leading in an organization he didn’t start.
