Should Notre Dame, Clemson, Oregon or Iowa State be kicked out of the contender discussion?

09/08/21 • 71 min

The College Football Survivor Show

On this big Wednesday episode, Doug Lesmerises and Shehan Jeyarajah think about welcoming some new teams to the discussion, think about kicking some teams out of the discussion, and in between rank all of the real national title contenders in college football.

With the help of their text subscribers (you can join the texts for a 14-day free trial at 817-442-6789), Doug and Shehan start by adding a team to the current 10 contenders. Penn State, Iowa, UCLA and Texas are discussed, and one of them is voted in.

Then Doug and Shehan rank all their contenders, where the biggest disagreement is over Clemson and Oklahoma.

Then finally, they kick out a contender, with Oregon, Iowa State, Notre Dame and Clemson all considered. One of them gets the boot.

Thanks for listening to another College Football Playoff Show.

  • Which teams did they regret putting in the playoff conversation before the season?
  • Should we just give Alabama the national title now?
  • Could UCLA really win the Pac-12?
  • Was the Georgia-Clemson game two great defenses or two bad offenses?
  • is Ohio State or Oklahoma looking more vulnerable after Week 1?
  • What's the deal with Oklahoma defensive coordinator Alex Grinch?
  • Which contender gets the biggest test in Week 2?

Replacing Clay Helton to make USC a contender again; plus the Clemson-Ohio State playoff beauty contest: Q&A

On this press conference episode of The College Football Playoff Show, Doug Lesmerises and Shehan Jeyarajah address the breaking news on the firing of USC coach Clay Helton. What led to his dismissal, and who's the right coach to replace him and return the Trojans to regular contender status?

Then, Doug and Shehan get to questions from text subscribers. Among them:

  • If Clemson and Ohio State both finish with one loss, which has the better chance to make the playoff? The year-long contest to better impress the selection committee is on.
  • What actually happened to the Buckeyes in their loss at Oregon?
  • Could we be headed toward massive playoff chaos at the end of the year, as we saw in 2007?
  • Could UCLA-Oregon turn into a vital playoff matchup?
  • With so much going on for supposed contenders, it is possible that Alabama and Georgia are the only actually good teams?
  • Does Penn State deserve a longer look as a playoff possibility?

Thanks for listening to the Tuesday Q&A pod of The College Football Playoff Show. Make sure to catch the Wednesday pod where new contenders will be welcomed, tired old contenders kicked out, and every real contender will be ranked against each other.
