Acknowledging that organizations cannot thrive in a disintegrating society, Sustainability Consultant, Melanie J. Richards, explores the interconnection of corporate, societal and environmental governance. There is a clear case for responsible business; for social and environmental considerations to be given equal emphasis as economic and financial indicators. Additionally, the Pandemic has highlighted the gross inequalities which corporate entities can no longer ignore, further emphasizing the importance of an integrated relationship between private sector, pubic sector ad civil society. Everyone has a role to play.
Through her consultancy CSR Solutions Ltd. Melanie helps organizations to move away from ad hoc social spend to incorporating sustainability into their operations, measuring the impact created and engaging with their stakeholders in a meaningful way.
Melanie Richards is the founder of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Solutions Ltd., established in 2007 with a vision of making organizations more responsible in the areas of environment, society and governance (ESG). As an independent consultant she works across all sectors (private, public and civil society) in consulting, research, stakeholder engagement and capacity building.

It not only reduces pollution from plastics and other materials but also provides employment, stimulates community development, and generates foreign exchange. This innovative project is propelling Tobago towards its ambitious goal of becoming a zero waste to landfill island.

In the Caribbean region we are already experiencing the physical and socio-economic effects of climate change: extreme weather events, sea level rise, drought, flooding, and sargassum seaweed invasion. However, the ongoing Climate Crisis places a particularly heavy burden on women and girls.
Women and men experience environmental changes differently. The imbalance of power not only undermines the ability of vulnerable groups to adapt and recover but are also pose a major threat to our collective capacity to build resilience to the Climate Crisis and achieve Sustainable Development. The special circumstances women face when confronted with environmental and other impacts must be mainstreamed into all decision making.
Christine Samwaroo focuses on on climate justice and sustainability in Guyana and the Caribbean. She has a Masters Degree in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management. Currently, she is a Senior Environmental Officer at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Christine is the Founder of The Breadfruit Collective, an emerging NGO which aims to work at the intersection of gender and environmental justice.
