The Barber of Seville is a two act opera by Rossini. It is based on a play called Le Barbier de Séville by French playwright Pierre Beaumarchais, and is the first of three plays about a character called Figaro.

His second play was the inspiration for another opera you might have heard of, The Marriage of Figaro. The Barber of Seville, is considered a prequel to the story of Mozart’s opera, though it was composed 30 years later.
