The Classi Ladi Corner

On today’s episode of The Classi Ladi Corner podcast, I share with you my experiences of getting waxed. Some people think that getting your intimate areas waxed isn’t appropriate for ladies of a certain age, but I say - if you want to do it, then do it! Try it once, and if it doesn’t work out for you, then you don’t have to go back. Trying out new things and not being afraid of what other people think is part of what being a Classi Ladi is about.

I’ve been getting waxed for about a year now, and even though it hurt at first, I’m really glad that it’s a part of my life. I even enjoy it! I know that it’s a big step to take, so in this episode I give you my top tips for how to make waxing safer and less painful. I also list the top five benefits of getting waxed, which is what keeps me going to my waxing salon every month.

If The Classi Ladi Corner podcast has inspired you to try waxing or to step outside of your comfort zone and do something new, please let me know! I love hearing your stories!

The Classi Ladi Corner Podcast with Special Guest Dr Cassandre Dunbar of the ‘Be Well Sis’ Podcast

On today's episode of The Classi Ladi Corner podcast, I talk with Dr Cassandre Dunbar of the award-winning ‘Be Well Sis’ podcast which empowers Black women to take care of themselves physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We get real and talk about self-care for everyone, but particularly for Black women. Cassandre explains to me how Black women are socialized from a young age to accommodate others and to find a way to make everything happen for other people. But, as Cassandre explains, when you’re running at full capacity, a yes to someone else is a no to yourself. It’s time to give yourself some time and love!

Cassandre and I begin by talking about what self-care is and why it’s so important. Self-care is different for all of us, but it means taking care of yourself and your needs. If you’re a busy mom, wife, daughter, sister, employee, business woman or student, it can be hard to put yourself at the center of your world and to start to let some responsibilities go. But by doing this, you’re taking care of yourself and modeling good, healthy behavior for those around you. And doing all this is not selfish! It’s self-care, not self-ish.

Cassandre then lays out some tips on how you can build self-care into your routine, to make healthy, sustainable habits, so listen in to find out how you can begin to work some self-care magic into your day. A lot of these tips are simple and straightforward, so that you can take baby steps towards a better, healthier, happier you.

We also cover a ton of other fun topics in this episode, from going to therapy to the importance of laughter for getting through those tough times. Please share this episode with anyone in your life who could do with a reminder of the importance of self-care!

The Classi Ladi Corner Podcast with Special Guest Author and Motivational Speaker Tonja Murphy (Sweet Tea Date)

On today’s episode of The Classi Ladi Corner podcast, I invite back special guest and author motivational speaker Tonja Murphy, who was one of the most popular guests from season 1. She comes back to the Classi Ladi Corner to finally spill the tea on her sweet tea date! So pour yourself a sweet tea - or something stronger - and join us as we talk about dating, family, therapy, love languages and more.

Tonja tells us what happened on her sweet tea date and uses this experience to outline some dating red flags, especially when you’re 40+. She outlines some of the priorities that she looks for in a man, from his self-confidence to his relationship with his family. Tonja also talks about dating with intention, knowing exactly what you’re looking for and sticking to your guns until you find it. Tune in to hear Tonja explain some of her dating mantras, such as “Love me how I need to be loved”. It’s up to you to explain to your man what you need from him, and if the way that he loved his ex-girlfriend is not the way that you want him to treat you, then have the confidence to ask for what you deserve!

Later on, Tonja and I also discuss what you can do while you’re waiting for that someone special to come into your life. If you’re not seeing somebody, you can use this time to work on yourself and to improve your own mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. And if you think you’re in a good place right now then that’s great, but what are you doing to maintain that?

Don’t miss this episode packed with our dating stories, our tips on building a healthier life and our book recommendations, and make sure to share this episode with another woman in your life who’s going through some of these struggles at the moment.
