The great landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted said, "The enjoyment of scenery employs the mind without fatigue, yet exercises it, tranquilizes it yet enlivens it, and thus, through the influence of mind over body, gives the effect of refreshing rest and reinvigorating the whole system."

Every day, City of Charlotte Senior Urban Designer Rachel Stark looks at our city and works to create Olmsted's vision. Everything from the structure of public spaces to the Black Lives Matter mural down to the zoning code is fair game for Stark, and her efforts will quite literally shape the city.
