Symphony in the Flint Hills 2023

Today's Episode of The Cattle Call brings awareness to the Flint Hills of Kansas and one way of doing that is with Symphony in the Flint Hills. The Cattle Call Host, Curtis Ohlde attends this years 18th annual Symphony in the Flint Hills and has the opportunity to interview Sandy Carlson the event manager and Mike Holder a retired County Extension Agent from Chase & Morris County. Symphony in the Flint Hills is more than just one event as there are various events throughout the year. This years Signature Event was held June 10th at the Wade Pasture near Eskridge, Kansas. Activities started at 2 o'clock with Presentations from various speakers, covered wagon rides, stories by local musicians and poets and dancing. At sunset (6:30 pm) the Kansas City Symphony began playing along with vocals by Connie Dover. The concert concluded with a roundup by local Cowboys & Cowgirls bringing the yearling stockers who called the pasture their summer home by the concert attendees. For some, to watch the cattle rounded up and drove around the concert is their number one reasons for attending. Dancing and other activities concluded the night. Stargazing is one of the annual events however due to the overcast clouds was cancelled for this year.
Prior to the concert, Curtis had the opportunity to sit by a couple from Oklahoma City. He asked, how many years have you been coming and why do you come. Their answer was this was just the second year and last year was cancelled early due to storms. As to why they simply gestured with their hands scanning over the Flint Hills with the question; who would want to miss this.
