EPISODE SUMMARY: What is a franchise business? Well, in short, a franchise business model is based on a marketing concept which can be adopted by an organization as a strategy for business expansion. Where implemented, a franchisor licenses its know-how, procedures, intellectual property, use of its business model, brand, and rights to sell its branded products and services to a franchisee.
If you're looking to start your own business, but aren't quite sure where to specialize, a franchise opportunity could be exactly what you're looking for. It allows you to operate a thriving enterprise while leveraging the power of an established brand, as well as its logos, marketing, advertising, and ability to purchase goods at a lower cost due to volume discounts.
On Episode 60 of The Business Equation, Nick Bogacz is joined by Zak Omar, CEO of Atomic Wings, based in New York City. Atomic Wings is a franchise business model that is currently expanding their footprint across New York and into other states as well. According to Zak, they have a nationwide focus, but are looking to grow efficiently, with long-term success in mind.
In this episode, you'll hear how Zak has found success in the franchise world, not just with Atomic Wings but with another well-known restaurant that America runs on. Zak will let you know some of the advantages of becoming a franchise owner as he and Nick discuss how the process works and why it's such a popular business model.
If you'd like to learn more and discover whether a franchise opportunity is right for you, visit the Atomic Wings website and click on the Franchising tab!

The Business Equation Podcast - Unleashing the Mindset of a Strong Leader w/ Dr. Kimberly Hambrick
play

02/11/21 • 55 min

EPISODE SUMMARY:"Most people leave an organization because of the leader." At some point in your professional life, you've encountered a leader who fell short of expectations. Whether they lacked the characteristics necessary to be a strong leader, couldn't maintain their composure in tough spots, or simply didn't take the time to connect with you and make you feel like part of the team, there's no denying that some people are put into positions of leadership when they just aren't ready.
It takes the right mindset for a leader to excel, and said leader must be able to clearly define expectations, not be afraid to make tough, unpopular decisions, and understand when it's time to part ways with a problem employee OR take the time to speak to that individual about how they can improve and be an asset to the brand.
In Episode 77 of The Business Equation Podcast, Nick Bogacz welcomes Dr. Kimberly Hambrick to the show. She is the a certified coach, teacher, trainer, and speaker with an emphasis on leadership, human development, and growth and a focus on maximizing the potential of individuals and organizations. Together, Nick and Dr. Hambrick will tackle the traits and qualities strong leaders possess, how the corporate world needs to examine how they choose leaders, some of the most powerful characteristics a leader brings to work with them every day, and much more.

05/04/20 • 24 min

EPISODE SUMMARY: As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, many businesses have reached out for financial support in numerous capacities. To help, state and federal government entities have put together various options designed to help business owners "bridge the gap" between our current state and whatever becomes the new way of operating once this pandemic comes to an end.
One of those initiatives is the Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP. According to the Small Business Administration's website, sba.gov, The Paycheck Protection Program is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll. SBA will forgive loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.
Click here to learn more about PPP and other potential means of assistance that may be available to you and your business at this time.
In Episode 38 of The Business Equation Podcast, host Nick Bogacz breaks down the PPP loan and explains how he's used it in his business. You will learn what the program is all about, tips and strategies for using it properly, why it's important to track everything you use the funds for, and much more.

The Business Equation Podcast - Why Businesses Fail

Why Businesses Fail

The Business Equation Podcast

play

09/18/19 • 20 min

There is never one concrete reason why a business fails. Often times, there are several potential factors that can lead to the downfall of an organization. Or, worse yet...a combination of those factors will spell doom for businesses of any shape, size, and time in operation. To be successful, it's important to understand critical points that can cause a business to derail and work efficiently to ensure you and your business do not become part of that end of the statistics.
In Episode 3 of The Business Equation Podcast, host Nick Bogacz takes a deeper look at why businesses fail. Could businesses that have failed shifted course and saved themselves? Can businesses on the brink of failure this very second rebound and point themselves in the right direction? What decisions led to a business being in a critical state? All this and more will be identified throughout this episode.
Episode 3 of The Business Equation Podcast covers:

  • Having the right attitude to ensure your business doesn't fail
  • Doing research to determine what businesses in your industry are doing right, then mirroring them
  • Determining the best location based on past success of said location
  • Taking small, safe bets the most and big risks only when you need to
  • Creating realistic cash flow solutions
  • Being picky about where and when you spend big money
  • How failing to meet deadlines will sink you
  • How effective decision-making will help you evolve instead of dissolve

The Business Equation Podcast - Leadership: Who's to Blame When Things Go Wrong?
play

04/20/20 • 22 min

It's not easy to admit when you've made a mistake. Or that the blame is all on you when a project falls apart. Our egos tell us that someone else or something else is the reason things did not go according to plan. But this just isn't reality. And it just doesn't speak to sound leadership.
When leaders take control of the ship, reaching the correct destination in the most efficient manner possible falls squarely on their shoulders. They're in a position of leadership because they know how to handle it and understand how to make others see their vision. A good leader does not point the finger of blame at others. No...a good leader looks to himself or herself and evaluates how they could've handled initiatives differently.
Episode 36 of The Business Equation Podcast takes a closer look at quality leadership skills and who you should blame when things go wrong. If the first two paragraphs weren't enough of a spoiler alert, here's another: It's YOU. You're to blame. And again, that isn't always easy to admit or accept. But somewhere along the way, a message from you was lost or misconstrued and fixing things for the future can't happen until you start at the root of the problem.
Nick Bogacz has built a successful pizza business with five locations thriving in the Pittsburgh region. But did you know, as his business expanded, he experienced team members who hated when he visited their restaurant? It was on Nick to discover why things went south in such a terrible fashion and he did just that. Not by getting mad at others or questioning whether he put the right people in place. He looked to himself and found what he needed to do differently.
This solution and much more will be heard on Episode 33 of The Business Equation Podcast!

The Business Equation Podcast - Unlocking the Lessons Within 'Think and Grow Rich' w/ Jim Shorkey
play

04/01/21 • 72 min

EPISODE SUMMARY: If you've been a long time listener of The Business Equation, you know how powerful positive mindset can be. With it, you have real, genuine opportunity to accomplish big things. Without it, you don't. That may seem like a dumbed-down explanation, but it's the truth.
If you go after anything with the mindset that you can't win and can't make it happen, then negative results are what you'll achieve. But go after those same goals with a positive mindset that allows you to visualize your outcome and manifest the best results coming to you, and you put yourself in a much better position to succeed.
Throughout my entire entrepreneurial journey, no book has impacted me more than Napoleon Hill's 'Think and Grow Rich.' This classic was published in 1937(!!) and the lessons found within still hold true today. But don't just take my word for it. Listen to some past episodes of The Business Equation and you'll hear Think and Grow Rich referenced multiple times by other successful entrepreneurs and professionals who've joined me to share their plight.
As this episode of The Business Equation goes live, I've read Think and Grow Rich 22 times. That may seem like a lot, but each time I dig into the text, I learn something new. And, 22 times is nothing compared to my guest on today's show!
In Episode 84 of The Business Equation Podcast, I'm joined by the one and only Jim Shorkey. Jim is the former owner of the Jim Shorkey Auto Group in Pittsburgh, PA, a company he inherited from his father in the early 90s, grew successfully thanks to the lessons he learned from Think and Grow Rich, and passed on to his children who have grown the company even bigger. To date, Jim has read Think and Grow Rich 144 times!
Today, Jim is retired and leads a mentoring group known as Results From Thinking, an outlet that allows him to share stories of positive mindset with professionals young and old.
In our conversation today, Jim and I will break down various lessons found within the front and back covers of Think and Grow Rich. From imagination to definiteness of purpose to autosuggestion to faith to passion, our discussion was one that truly brings Napoleon Hill's words to life. Did we agree on everything? Of course not! And that's OK. It made for great radio!
We also get into some great business talk, including the power of strong negotiation skills, when it's the right time to expand your business, when the 'right deal' is 'no deal at all,' and much, much more.
You can connect with Jim and learn more about what he's up to by checking out his mentoring group at resultsfromthinking.com.
