Pubcast from The Brit and Yankee-Show 365-Pubcast 365 - In Memoriam-Mark Naski, our friend
The Brit and Yankee Craft Beer Podcast
07/15/21 • -1 min
Not much to say about this episode except that we miss our dear friend and prior co-host, Mark Naski. This podcast recorded in 2012 was our first with Mark, and he taught us beer school, from John's Tavern (now also no more) in Winfield. He joined the show as our technical expert and we never looked back. He will be sorely missed, but we will celebrate his life and achievements. Kippis, Mark!

Jon, Matt, and Joe settled down with a few brews in their new permanent location in Buffalo Grove, and talked with The Brit and co-host Ken McMullen about their beers, their brewing history, and their future releases. Also, there's an announcement about their target opening date, and we can't wait so mark your calendars, folks! Cheers!
Pubcast from The Brit and Yankee-Show 356-4-Zoomin' To Idaho-Jerry Larson of Mad Swede Brewing
The Brit and Yankee Craft Beer Podcast
02/26/21 • -1 min
We get two Scandinavian's for the price of one on this edition...well, at least one who was born there, and one who has Swedish descent! It's the latter we are focusing on in Part 4 of our Idaho brewery series, as we meet up with Jerry Larson who is the driving force behind Mad Swede Brewing. The beer we are sampling is perfect for the colder weather, and you could say it was 'awesome'...yes it's a robust oatmeal porter called Helm of Awe. We chat with Jerry about his background, his brewery, and of course his beers. We've sampled several in past podcasts and all of them are fantastic, including the GABF medal winner, Naked Sunbather. Mark Naski is there to keep Jerry company, and thanks to him for setting all this up. We had a little issue with the sound in some places, so bear with us this time round. Skål!

The Brit and Yankee Craft Beer Podcast

This edition is our Craft Beer Week offering and we 'zoom' in with Will County's Jamie Albert who , tells us about what's happening at the brewery including expansion plans! Also, Jamie plugs a very important fest coming up this weekend at the Joliet Hollywood Casino, The House That Beer Built, which benefits the Will County chapter of Habitat for Humanity...yup, they're actually framing walls for the house at the event, so maybe you'll catch Jamie swinging a hammer! Cheers!!

Despite the current Covid problems, Josh Grubbs is pushing forward with getting his taproom ready to open in 2021. Black Lung Brewing Company is currently producing their beers out of the Zumbier space in Waukegan, but Josh has big plans for his own space in Round Lake Beach and a Kickstarter fund running to help him. Join The Brit and Ken McMullen as we talk to Josh who is in his 'man-cave', and we sample his beer. If they are a sign of anything then he'll be killing it next year!! Cheers!
Pubcast from The Brit and Yankee-Show 362-Pubcast 362-Big Thorn Farm and Brewery: The Great Outdoors
The Brit and Yankee Craft Beer Podcast
06/11/21 • -1 min
It is our early Father's Day edition in which we feature a beer that will be released on that day. We return to Big Thorn Farm and Brewery to once again experience the fantastic ambience, and enjoy tasting their magnificent brews. The Brit called on co-hosts Ken McMullen and Chuck Fort to join him outdoors on the Pub deck, and select a couple of bottles that were brought back from this unique brewery. Located in Georgetown, IL., they use natural ingredients and grass-roots brewing methods to produce extraordinary brews with many different flavors. It's about 3 hours to head down there, but once you see the Tree Bar, you will know the trip was worth it...plus they now have fantastic food offerings, so make a day of it! BTW...the bourbon-stout that is being released on June 20, is like no other you have tasted...delicate and balanced and leaves you wanting more. Cheers!
Pubcast from The Brit and Yankee-Behind The Pint-Episode 1-Is Craft Beer Really Just Beer?
The Brit and Yankee Craft Beer Podcast
03/25/22 • -1 min
We begin a new series of podcasts where we try to delve a little deeper into the business of craft beer. We want to go Behind the Pint. To kick us off, we're asking if Craft Beer is really just beer, or if it's a marketing ploy that has exploded into an industry. We have three local Chicago industry experts, 2 brewers and one craft beer guru, on hand to pass opinions and talk about the topic in general. First up is my co-host for this episode. brewmaster at Hopvine Brewing in Aurora IL, Ken McMullen. Supporting the brewing side is owner/brewer Chris Valleau from Forest Park's Exit Strategy Brewing. And finally, beer consultant, educator and writer, and international beer judge, Marty Nachel who helps provide the bridge between the brewers and the consumer. Phil Clark asks the questions, and of course we all have something good to drink while we chat...Cheers!
Pubcast from The Brit and Yankee-Pubcast 383-Chuck's Wood Fired Pizza...and Beer!
The Brit and Yankee Craft Beer Podcast
04/07/23 • -1 min
We're back with and audio podcast this week, and recording down in the Brit and Yankee Pub studio. The Brit's co-host is Ken McMullen from Hopvine Brewing, and together they welcome Chuck Grote of Wood Fired Pizza fame. Chuck is probably one of the most well-known food truck vendors in Chicagoland's western suburbs, but not many people know that he also has recipes for brewing excellent beers, and has a fascinating back-story. We're peeling back the onion, and finding out a little more about the man with the distinctive look and great pizzas. Cheers!

It's a Zoom trip to Idaho to sample some brews that our chum, Mark Naski sent us. He arranged for us to talk to all the brewers, and we had a great time chatting over Zoom. First up is Bryan Garcia-Brown from Edge Brewing, and we have a Baltic Porter to try! Cheers!

We jump in the car and head south to Route 66 in Wilmington, IL., where located on an island between the Kankakee River and the Mill Race channel is Old School Brewing. Paul 'Pauly' Bidne is the head brewer there, and we chat with him about his brewery which can literally be described as an 'old school' tap room/brewery producing great beers and full of friendly people and lively chat! Pauly is one of the characters we love in the craft beer industry and we encourage you to take that trip down Rt 66 to visit OSB and try his beers, especially the California Common! Cheers!
