Disaster for Roglic, Pogacar soars | Should Tour have cobbles chaos?
The Bradley Wiggins Show by Eurosport
07/07/22 • 15 min
After a breathless and nervy Stage 5 of the Tour de France, which witnessed carnage on the cobbles, Brad and Matt catch up while driving past the iconic Arenberg.
Simon Clarke took a tremendous win but the real story of the day was a succession of major incidents involving big-name riders.
Jack Haig was forced to withdraw, Primoz Roglic dislocated his shoulder and had to pop it back in - and that was after yellow jersey Wout van Aert had crashed and then almost hit a car when trying to rejoin the group.
All in all it was a disastrous day for Jumbo-Visma, as Roglic conceded almost two minutes to Tadej Pogacar, which might have ended his GC hopes already.
But Geraint Thomas came through largely unscathed and is one of three Ineos riders in the top 10, along with Adam Yates and Tom Pidcock.
To finish, Brad and Matt debate whether the spectacle of the cobbles is worth the toll it takes on the peloton...

Froome deserves respect not ridicule | Tao is the real deal
The Bradley Wiggins Show by Eurosport
10/22/20 • 31 min
Brad and Graham are back as we reflect on an amazing bonanza of cycling with two Grand Tours on at once. The pod kicks off by reviewing Ben O'Connor's solo win on Stage 17 of the Giro d'Italia - a vital victory for a team in NTT which faces a very uncertain future.
It's the business end of the Giro now and the daunting challenge of the Stelvio awaits pink jersey Joao Almeida on Thursday. Even if he says he likes it, Brad... isn't convinced.
We also chat Tao Geoghegan Hart. Brad says the Ineos Grenadiers rider is the "complete package", revealing what he spoke to him on the phone about after Stage 17, having sent him a heartfelt message. "He's everything I wasn't, and everything I wanted to be," says Brad.
With Stage 17 finishing at Madonna di Campiglio, the scene of Marco Pantani's fall from grace, Brad also reflects on his memories of the Pirate's life and death. You can hear more about that infamous day on the 1999 Giro on our cycling history podcast, Re-Cycle: https://podfollow.com/re-cycle
Meanwhile, an explosive Vuelta is only two stages old but has seen some huge developments already, most notably the dramatic collapse of Chris Froome on day one, as he lost more than 11 minutes to end his GC hopes before they had even started.
Brad leaps to the defence of his former team-mate and says his eyecatching time gaps don't mean anything. Brad backs Froome to potentially win a stage and says that his status in the sport, and within Ineos, means he deserved his spot at the Vuelta. Froome shouldn't be called a shadow of his former self, Brad says.

Marc Hirschi breaks to claim Tour redemption, while the battle for the Green Jersey is far from over
The Bradley Wiggins Show by Eurosport
09/10/20 • 11 min
Today Brad is all on his lonesome but that doesn't mean he's anything less than 100% committed when it comes to analysing another intriguing stage of the Tour de France. Stage 12 saw 22-year-old Marc Hirschi emerge victorious at the third attempt in this year's race.
For Brad Hirschi "rides with the confidence of someone who has been a professional for ten years" and he doesn't think the rising star is finished yet.
As well as Brad's musings on Hirschi's victory we also hear from Fabian Cancellara, who Brad calls one of the best time-trialists of his generation, as he spoke to Eurosport's Orla Chennaoui after the stage. At the age of 39 Cancellara has seen it all in cycling and he knows that there will be bad days ahead for his young team-mate. However, Thursday evening is not one of them and Cancellara was full of praise for the work his young colleague has put in as well as his positive attitude. As Cancellara says today Hirschi's "life has changed because he won a Tour de France stage during his first time competing in the race."
There's also just enough time to touch on Peter Sagan picking up a few points to narrow the gap in the race for the Green Jersey before Brad looks forward Stage 13 on Friday and he is predicting some fireworks in the GC.
And as a little bonus treat Orla caught up with another rising superstar, Great Britain's Tom Pidcock, after he won the baby Giro.

Yates takes yellow, but did Alaphilippe lose it on purpose?
The Bradley Wiggins Show by Eurosport
09/02/20 • 40 min
Graham and Brad are joined by Brian Smith and Sean Kelly after a Stage 5 which started slowly, continued in that vein, and then had the most explosive of endings.
Did Julian Alaphilippe lose the yellow jersey on purpose? That's Brad's theory after a bottle penalty docked him 20 seconds and installed Adam Yates as the GC leader.
The team also reflect on a quite stunning win for Wout van Aert, reserve praise for Sepp Kuss, and wonder what the Ineos masterplan is...
Brad also recalls his famous 190km solo break in 2007, and also the dispiriting moment when his Cofids team pulled out of the Tour after a team-mate failed a doping test, leading Brad to throw away his kit in disgust.

How the Yellow Jersey changed my life pt. 2: Armstrong, capitulation, and hitting rock bottom
The Bradley Wiggins Show by Eurosport
09/13/20 • 53 min
Egan Bernal was the "big loser" on Stage 15 of the Tour de France as he lost over seven minutes to Primoz Roglic, dropping out of the top 10 on GC after cracking on the Grand Colombier.
Brad says it's now clear that Ineos made a mistake by not taking Geraint Thomas to the Tour and that Dave Brailsford's team have got things "horribly wrong" at the Tour this year, bringing an end to nearly a decade of dominance in cycling's biggest race.
Jumbo-Visma looked in incredible shape again with Wout van Aert setting a fearsome tempo on the final climb to continue his incredible Tour.
Racing ins and outs aside, we also have part two of how the Yellow Jersey changed my life, as Brad delves deep again, picking up the tale following his historic 2012 Tour de France win which we covered in last Friday's podcast.
Brad discusses what came after 2012, as he struggled to cope with fame and lost focus, resulting in what even he describes as an "embarrasing" Giro in 2013.
There are also reflections on the frustration of having to act almost as a spokesman for the sport after the Lance Armstrong revelations when all he wanted to do was focus on riding, and how Team Sky came to see him as an unreliable team member, not picking him for the Tour de France.
Brad describes how he had to hit "rock bottom to climb again" and reflects on how his own mental health issues manifested during a difficult time in his life.
It's another fascinating insight - please let us know what you think and rate and review us on your podcast platform of choice.

'I feel incredibly sorry for Geraint' - Orla chats to Lizzie Deignan
The Bradley Wiggins Show by Eurosport
10/06/20 • 9 min
Brad and Graham are back tomorrow but we've got something special for you today on our bonus episode as Orla Chennaoui talks to the newly-crowned winner of Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Lizzie Deignan.
It's been a super season so far for the Trek-Segafredo rider, who says she has found a team which allows her to "have fun on her bike again".
Deignan also discusses motherhood, her upcoming calendar (including a historic first Paris-Roubaix) and of course the nightmare news from the Giro d'Italia with Geraint Thomas unable to start Stage 4 after his bad crash on Stage 3.
Oh, and we couldn't get Lizzie on the show without asking her about Brad's call for her to win Sports Personality of the Year...

Campenaerts claims unlikely win for ‘most likeable team in the peloton’ Qhubeka ASSOS | Should Van der Breggen reconsider her retirement plans?
The Bradley Wiggins Show by Eurosport
05/23/21 • 38 min
The Bradley Wiggins Show returns as Brad and Graham Willgoss are joined by Eurosport presenter Orla Chennaoui.
To kick things off the crew pay credit to stage winner Victor Campenaerts who Wiggins calls "the most Belgian man in the world." Wiggins speculates what might have happened if he had been involved in the crash had he not attacked early.
The crash of course was the big one right at the start of the stage that wiped out a host of riders including a couple of GC contenders. Wiggins says that there are more crashes than people realise, speculating that it might be because they're so traumatic. Chennaoui added that it's rare to see races stopped and that will become more common as medical rules become stricter.
The gang then discuss Giacomo Nizzolo not starting the stage and the difference in reaction to his withdrawal and Caleb Ewan's. After that, they talk about Peter Sagan's aims, whether he will stay and fight for the points jersey or focus on Tour de France prep.
Plus there's some reminiscing for Brad and Orla about Giros past when Wiggins was still riding. Let's just say that transfers don't always go smoothly!
After a trip down memory lane, there's a fond look at the story of Campenaerts and Team Qhubeka ASSOS, who have surprised even themselves with their performances at this Giro. Are they the most likeable team in the peloton?
There's also time for a chat about recent success for Anna van der Breggen, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and Grace Brown as well as a discussion on Van der Breggen's plans to retire after the Tokyo 2020 games regardless of how well she performs at the Olympics.
Brought to you by Zwift where fun is fast.

The biggest upset in sporting history? Pogacar's stunning Tour win changes everything
The Bradley Wiggins Show by Eurosport
09/19/20 • 28 min
Where do we start after one of the most remarkable days in Tour de France history?
Well, how about with Tadej Pogacar, the utterly brilliant 21-year-old who will be crowned Tour de France winner in Paris on Sunday after blowing Primoz Roglic out of the water on Saturday's Stage 20 time trial up La Planche des Belles Filles.
Was this the biggest upset in sport? Brad and Graham discuss what could be a true changing of the guard moment for cycling and reflect on Roglic's remarkable collapse as he fell apart in the penultimate stage.
How did Jumbo-Visma end up without the yellow jersey despite barely putting a foot wrong? Maybe because Pogacar is a talent who could be ushering in a very special 10 or 15 years, and maybe there was an element of complacency at play...
There's also a mention for Richie Porte after he clinched a place on the podium in the Tour de France which he missed the birth of his second child to race in.
And finally, Orla Chennaoui catches up with Mark Cavendish and revisits that incredible day in 2012 when Brad wore yellow into Paris and set up Cav to win the final sprint.
