In this chapter, I wanted to explore what if there was an Eddie Aikau event for women surfers. That is how I came up the THE ROYAL PACIFIC INVITATIONAL. I can totally envision Fiction becoming Reality and I would LOVE TO SEE The Royal Pacific becoming an actual big wave surf contest for women surfers!!! I also wanted to highlight the difference between big wave surfers and surfers. I demonstrated this in the fact that Via is the 5-time world champ but has never won The Royal Pacific. Chapter 20 - REUNIFICATION
-CHAPTER 20 – REUNIFICATION --- Aiko covertly arranges a meeting between Art and Via to rekindle their friendship.
One of my major influences in writing this story is from the film BIG WEDNESDAY. I would say the overarching theme in Big Wednesday is FRIENDSHIP. So much so that I wanted THE BOND BETWEEN SURFERS to be a story about FRIENDSHIP. I chronicle the lives of Art and Via from age 10 to age 40 and how their friendship is tested. I also explore the theme of friendship between all my characters throughout the book. This is my HOMAGE to Big Wednesday. Finally, Aiko’s character is BEAR in Big Wednesday.
