Tonight we discuss Tia Williams The Perfect Find, an age gap romance where a woman falls in love with a young man 18 years her junior.

Take this journey with us.

Will a forty-year-old woman with everything on the line – her high-stakes career, ticking biological clock, bank account – risk it all for an intensely lusty secret romance with the one person who could destroy her comeback, for good?

Jenna Jones, former It-girl fashion editor, is broke and desperate for a second chance. When she’s dumped by her longtime fiancé and fired from Darling magazine, she begs for a job from her old arch nemesis, Darcy Vale. The beyond-bitchy publisher of StyleZine.com, Darcy agrees to hire her rival – only because her fashion site needs a jolt from Jenna’s old school cred. But Jenna soon realizes she’s in over her head. She’s working with digital-savvy millennials half her age, has never even “Twittered,” and pretends to still be a Fashion Somebody while living a style lie (she sold her designer wardrobe to afford her sketched-out studio, and now quietly wears Walmart’s finest). Worse? The twenty-two-year-old videographer assigned to shoot her web series is driving her crazy. Wildly sexy with a smile Jenna feels in her thighs, Eric Combs is way off-limits – but almost too delicious too resist.

Written by the bestselling author of The Accidental Diva, The Perfect Find is a scandalously sexy, laugh-out-loud funny, utterly quotable saga about star-crossed love and starting over. The Black Girl Book Club Podcast - BGBCP - A Timeless Love with Author Shanel Discussion
play

03/01/23 • 68 min

This book puts everything in perspective. Their love was timeless but their time was limited.

We wouldn't even call this a best friend's to lovers, it's more like best friends to soulmates.

Time seemed to stand still for Abigail, aka Abby, while growing up in Crescent City, Florida. She wanted out. She wanted to experience the world outside of her small hometown. As soon as Abby was able, she went on to live her life, experiencing college in Texas, then furthering her career in the always sunny Southern California. The one thing she missed while broadening her horizons was her best friend Kendrick. He was Abby’s confidant...her rock.
Kendrick always wanted the best for Abby. He wanted her to be happy. So, while his feelings for her ran deep, he knew he needed to let her fly. The best friend role would just have to be good enough for him. Staying in Crescent City, so far away from Abby, hurt, but it was his home.
When tragedy strikes, Kendrick and Abby end up back in one another’s presence. With emotions on high, and buried feelings coming to the surface, it seems as though their love for one another was placed in a time capsule. No amount of time or distance could break Kendrick and Abby’s connection. It was as if it were being preserved for the right moment. However, the right moment may not be what either of them expects. The universe controls more than just time; it also dictates our fate, which is inevitable and unpredictable. Fate, can also sometimes, be heartbreaking.

When a Minster meets a Scarlett. Tonight one of our long time listeners and book besties, Debbie, joins Shequana for a night of sin and love.

*****In this discussion there is a mention of rape and drug abuse*******

A product of the streets and circumstance, Lavender Love has always been dealt a bad hand. From dealing with her religious zealot of a grandmother to birthing a child that was a product of rape, Lavender deals with more issues at thirteen than most women twice her age. Not ready to be a mother, Lavender leaves her baby on her grandmother’s doorstep and finds the first ride she can out of the city. On a quest to find herself, Lavender rides a rocky road, teetering between life and death. Fifteen years later, she’s still searching for herself when she meets Shyheim Roosevelt.
A caring, charming, and handsome youth pastor, Shyheim Roosevelt has been tasked with finding Lavender and bringing her back home. Carnal opposites attract when, in finding Lavender, Shyheim finds himself. From her outspoken opinions and alluring personality, she’s everything he could ever ask for in a woman. Her past is of no consequence to Shyheim, who also has a rocky past but has been living how his parents wanted him to for a little over a decade: by the Word. However, after spending just a small amount of time with Lavender, he understands that, like the Bible, people are capable of being multifaceted. The only things standing in the way of their love are Lavender’s reservations, his parents—and the woman he’s due to walk down the aisle with.

The Black Girl Book Club Podcast - BGBCP - The Rhythm of Blues (Love in Rhythm & Blues Book 1) Discussion
play

07/06/22 • 66 min

Tonight we discuss fake celebrity marriages, love, and betrayal. Some believe the old adage, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” Well, in some instances the smoke is just a coverture for secrets. Dark ones. Ragee is a successful R&B singer, music composer, and actor who shot to fame and celebrity at rocketing speed. He has the voice, the troubled soul, the seductive look, and the alluring mystique, all of which give him the traditional packaging of a soulful rhythm and blues singer. But he also has an unshakable stigma attached to his stardom that won’t seem to go away. Wynter Blue thought she was taking control of her world the day she up and quit her job. As a social service professional, she was done with helping afflicted adult men to right their paths in life. She was ready to live for her. Finally. She wanted to pursue her dreams and stretch the bounds of her creativity. Little did she know, the day she walked out of her job was the very one she’d run into the shroud of smoke. His smoke. Awfully familiar with secrets herself, Wynter questions if she can handle Ragee’s darkness while trying to bring him into the light of truth. DISCLAIMER: The Rhythm of Blues is book one of a two-book series. This series is for mature audiences ONLY. This installment is a full-length novel containing profanity, erotica, and sensitive sexual content. It ends on a cliffhanger. If you do not like dark, racy romance between your pages this literary venture is not for you.

Tonight we're talking about the Sun series by Rae Lyse. This is part 1 of a two part podcast. Find out what "the thump" is and what Sunflower did to her grandfather that almost sent him to an early grave. Oh and the battle of the bestie.

Saving Sunflower - Dominic DeBlanc is a wayward street hustler and part-time rapper constantly running from a past that haunts him. With a bleak outlook on life, he finds himself teetering between two worlds—a seedy one where he’s not guaranteed to see his twenty-second birthday and a promising one that might bring him recognition for his talent. After a chance encounter with a peculiar waitress, he finds himself engulfed in a friendship he never knew he needed. However, his complex life and reckless decisions challenge their already complicated bond.

End Game - Josiah Joseph is trouble—at least that’s what everyone says about him. Jade Taylor can’t help but to agree with their sentiments.
He’s a hotheaded football player and one of her most lackluster students.
She’s a young mother and a laser-focused teacher’s assistant, counting the days until graduation.
After the two cross paths at a wild party, Jade makes a discovery about the volatile quarterback that sends her on a quest to understand who Josiah Joseph is and why he’s suddenly become enamored with her

THIS IS THE ONE! The book, the discussion...EVERYTHING! This powerful literary tale of untraditional love will have you rethinking your entire life.

Hear what the black girl has to say.

I said I'd never love another man again. I had no idea I would soon fall in love with four of them.

I, Skye Bellamy, escaped to this little mountain town to start anew. To focus. It was supposed to be easy, because If there's one thing I know how to do, it's reinvent myself.

But a series of unfortunate events lands me right next to my favorite R&B boy band from back in the day. And they still look good.

Angelo's the cocky one. Jamal is the strong, silent one. G is the gorgeous, sensitive one. And Matt, well, Matt's not on my radar and for good reason.

But I'm already on theirs.

I'm supposed to be working and they're supposed to be rehearsing but temptation abounds and I soon find myself in their clutches...or maybe they're in mine. It's hard to say. But no matter how happy we are with our little arrangement, we're all hiding something and it's only a matter of time before it all blows up in our faces. But in the meantime...

We fall.

***This is book 1 in the Crave Series. Crave is a reverse harem romance, which means the heroine doesn't have to choose; she can have any or all of the guys she wants. Sometimes at the same time. There is no cliff-hanger but this is the first in series so the story continues in the next installment.

THIS ONE YALL!! X-RATED to the 10th power!

Those college days can be something else.

Keyara Henderson’s life takes an unexpected turn when more than half of her vision deteriorates due to diabetes. With limited vision and assistance in the form of a walking stick, Keyara’s next step in adulthood isn’t the same as girls her age. Everything she once knew has been taken away from her, especially her independent spirit. In an effort to regain it, Keyara opts to attend Georgia Southern University, a prestigious university with a drive long enough to prevent her from having anyone to fall back on. Although he has reservations letting his daughter roam around a college campus with limited assistance, Keyara’s father relents under two conditions: one being that she must stay in an assisted living facility, and the other requiring her to employ a chauffeur. By chance, she’s paired with the handsome Marquez Richardson.
Born to a superstar father, Marquez “Rich” Richardson has lived up to the hype surrounding his last name, using it to bend the rules and escape trouble. After his son was caught in another drag racing/drunk driving scandal, Marquez’s father has had enough of his son’s irresponsible ways. He revokes his driving privileges before the police can do so. To drill in the importance of safe driving, he piles on a lesson to pair with this punishment: acting as Keyara Henderson’s chauffeur. From the first day he begins walking her around, Marquez feels as if his social status is in jeopardy. The parties he once attended and the girls who would flock to him are put off by Keyara’s presence. Although this is a problem in the beginning Marquez warms up to the determined Keyara. The problem standing in his way, his girlfriend Cajua Taylor.
