John Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Sidney Poitier, Edward R. Murrow, James Earl Jones, Steven Spielberg, Laurence Fishburne, Robert Wagner, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush and George Stevens, Sr., just a few of the people we meet in Bill's interview with George Stevens, Jr. In addition to working with his father, the legendary film director George Stevens. Sr., George Stevens, Jr. was a successful producer and director in Hollywood before being lured to Washington as a member of Edward R. Murrow’s team at the United States Information Agency during the Kennedy administration. Stevens founded the American Film institute and created the Kennedy Center Honors. He ran those for 37 years, interacting with the greatest artists and performers of our time and presidents from Carter to Obama. He's captured it all in a new book, a memoir, entitled My Place in the Sun: Life in the Golden Age of Hollywood and Washington. You can get your own copy here.

Dr. Vince Greenwood, a licensed psychologist, is the founder of The Washington Center For Cognitive Therapy in Washington D.C. He is a founding member of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. He warns that Donald Trump suffers from a psychological condition that makes him dangerous. He explains that Trump meets the criteria for psychopathic personality disorder, which is characterized by traits such as remorselessness, impulsivity, and a drive to dominate. Greenwood conducted his own research and analysis of Trump's behavior and concluded that he exhibits signs of this disorder. He also suggests that Trump may be experiencing mild neurocognitive disorder, citing examples of verbal struggles and changes in speech patterns. Greenwood emphasizes the importance of informing the public about Trump's condition, particularly in the context of the 2024 election. He believes that mental health professionals have an ethical duty to communicate their opinions and provide scientifically rigorous information. His website is DutytoInform.org

In Chapter 5 of Trump's Project 2025: Up Close and Personal, Part one, the fictional characters Congresswoman Louise Getty and Senator Wade Stiller, former rivals, meet at the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. They reflect on their pasts and express concern over a hostile political climate under Trump’s second term, feeling fear and paranoia about being surveilled and targeted by the government. Their conversation reveals a sense of vulnerability as they confront the reality that many of their colleagues have abandoned principles out of fear. Louise recalls the intense political maneuvering and betrayals leading up to and following the January 6 insurrection.

In Part Two, Woody Nuxhall, the newly appointed head of the Treason and Political Crime Section of the DOJ, oversees his zealous young team of prosecutors, eager to pursue investigations and vendettas against political enemies. The group discusses tactics to surveil and undermine former colleagues and opposition figures, planning a strategy fueled by partisan loyalty and vengeance, while embracing a radical transformation of the DOJ's role in politics. The narrative emphasizes the deeply entrenched fear and moral compromise within Washington's political landscape, contrasting the idealistic memories of past sacrifices with the present-day weaponization of governmental power. Overall, the story highlights the erosion of democratic norms, and the personal toll this environment takes on the individuals involved.

While these stories are fictional, they are based on Trump's own words and Project 2025. In fact, the New York Times, just last week reported just how Trump would use the Justice Department to go after his enemies.

The Bill Press Pod - Network of Lies with Brian Stelter.
play

11/14/23 • 41 min

Brian Stelter is one of the top reporters covering the media. After covering media for The New York Times, he had a long career at CNN on the same beat as host of the weekly show, Reliable Services. He is a Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair. And the author of the new book, Network of Lies: The Epic Saga of Fox News, Donald Trump, and the Battle for American Democracy. You can buy a copy here. Bill and Brian explore the close relationship between Fox News and Donald Trump. Stelter discusses how Fox News hosts coordinated with White House officials to spread false information about voter fraud after the 2020 election. He also highlights the extent to which Fox News and Trump are intertwined, and how this relationship has influenced the network's coverage. Stelter argues that Fox News has become an extreme and anti-democratic outlet, and that the media as a whole is struggling to cover a radicalized Republican Party. He also touches on the coverage of the Israel-Palestine conflict and the challenges faced by journalists reporting from the region.

Today Bill gives a shoutout to the actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA. They secured an historic settlement with the studios gaining compensation from streaming and protections from Artificial Intelligence. After the Writers Guild and United Auto Workers wins it sure looks like unions are back!

The Bill Press Pod - Rep. Jamie Raskin takes on MAGA Extremists.
play

01/16/24 • 38 min

Congressman Jamie Raskin (D) MD is in the forefront of holding the MAGA extremist Republicans in Congress to account. Making his fourth appearance on the Bill Press Pod, they discussed Hunter Biden and the House Oversight Committee. Raskin explained that Hunter Biden had been subpoenaed by the committee and had initially agreed to appear for a committee hearing, but the committee later changed the terms to a closed-door deposition. Raskin argued that Hunter Biden had been willing to participate but wanted the proceedings to be public due to concerns about the committee's handling of closed-room depositions. Raskin also discussed the Republican push to impeach President Joe Biden, stating that they have no case and that it is a humiliation to their party. He emphasized the importance of the 2024 election, describing it as a choice between a government that serves the common good and one that prioritizes private self-enrichment. Raskin highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change and the need for Democrats to take action.
