The Big Bark Dog podcast

The Big Bark Dog podcast - Darragh Bourke

The Big Bark is the number 1 canine podcast in Ireland. Each week, we talk to different professionals working in the canine industry across Ireland, such as dog trainers, nutritionists, groomers, behaviour specialists and vets. We will be discussing hot topics with our awesome guests, reviewing the best products, food and treats, the best places to take your dog on a day out and most dog friendly venues in Ireland. We will get out and about to meet with some of the coolest dog owners around and get to chat with their doggies too and we find out about the pawsome bonds they share. We meet some interesting and funny folks along the way who are sure to liven the show up a bit and share their own stories about why they love our four legged friends more than humans. We'll be asking every dog we meet along the way "Who's a good boy/girl" - yes the new season is going to be absolutely wild.
Are you ready to bark? We are! The best kind of people are dog people after all.

We chat about Why dog parents celebrate their dog's birthday and we also chat about good presents to buy your dogs, what Roxy's favourite pressies were and we also touch on the importance of not only giving the birthday dog some extra attention but also ensuring that, when you have a multi-dog household, all of your dogs are included in the celebrations too. We recap on Roxy's first year and in particular, the 9 months she has been with us.

No special guests today, so we also tell you what's to come on the show over the next few weeks.

Today, we're chatting about Roxy recently going into her first season and how it affected her. She got clingy and needy and she was certainly in discomfort. She hated being away from us and would cry if we left her for a few minutes. With that in mind, we invited Dr. Ashleigh Bugler from Treaty Veterinary Clinic on to chat with us about the different aspects of the heat cycle, from symptoms that your dog is going into season, how to make your dog comfortable during their heat cycle along with tips to help keep your dog safe from every other male doggy in the parish.

Given that Roxy was quite clingy and lonely during her heat cycle, we also brought Samantha Rawson of The Canine College back to the show to chat a bit about Separation issues and Separation anxiety in dogs.

We chat all about our upcoming Christmas special All I woof for Christmas, give details of our Christmas raffle and remind you about our 2023 Christmas charity campaign for DSPCA & Haven Rescue.

This week, we speak with Peter Smyth of Causey Farm about a great day out that is coming up on 25th and 26th of May - Dogitude Festival - This promises to be an entertaining day out for dogs and their owners and we hear about all the wonderful things happening over the weekend which are created as a safe and fun filled day with the dogs welfare in mind.

On the other side of the coin, we look at the practice of Puppy yoga which is fuelling the Puppy breeding industry by offering €1100 to breeders for their puppies to be utilised for Puppy yoga sessions from a new business based in Dublin. We hear from Aoife from My Lovely Horse rescue who recently did their own investigation by posing as a prospective breeder and the things that were unveiled are shocking.

We hear from the owner of Puppies & Yoga - Henri Sagon - a businessman from Paris France who operates Puppies & Yoga in 10 European cities and we hear first hand how this is lining the pockets of commercial puppy breeders in Ireland.

Welcome to Season 4 of The Big Bark Canine Podcast

The Big Bark dog podcast is Irelands Number 1 dog related podcast. Each episode, Darragh and his trusty sidekick pups Bruno, Milly & Roxy bring you the latest news from the canine world with the biggest interviews with pet professionals.

It's a brand new season and We've been away for quite a while so this week Darragh explains what is to come on this season. First up, I introduce the rogue known as Roxy and give you just a brief insight into the crazy things she has got up to since she arrived, how she has brought life back to our home and how she is just absolutely crazy and full of life. I chat about the impact she has had on Bruno and Milly and I tell how Grey my hair has gone since she arrived.

Focusing on mental wellbeing and the benefits that our dogs have for our mental health, this season will see a much more academic and research based format. While still focusing on all the happy dog stories, we will be diving into how dogs help us, how we help them and how they help each other. This season, we will be chatting to more dog owners, more dog business owners, trainers, vets, nutritionists and other canine professionals. We not only want to know about what makes these people love dogs so much, we want to know how dogs help their wellbeing.

The best place to start by telling how dogs help our mental health and wellbeing is by telling you my own story. I chat about why it's taken so long for The Big Bark to come back on the air and talk about how my dogs were there for me during the most devastating time that I have ever gone through, how they helped me and my partner to get through tough times and how equally we helped them when they were coping with their own heartache and loss. The first time i've spoken publicly about the personal bond that I experience with my dogs and how they helped me with the loss of my brother.

With much more content coming straight from the hearts of owners and dogs alike, get ready for a season that may pull a few heartstrings but will help us all to connect with our canine partners on a much deeper level.

This week, we welcome back Dr. Ashleigh Bugler from Treaty Veterinary Clinic to our health hub - Dr. Bugler this week chats about Heatstroke in dogs, the symptoms, and what to do if you believe your dog has heat stroke.

We continue our in depth discussion into Puppies & Yoga Dublin, with some more shocking revelations into the disgraceful practices by the french business operating in more than 10 countries and how the CEO Henri Sagon continues to breach legislation in many of these countries - in Ireland, Henri Sagon's company is not only encouraging tax evasion in Ireland but also has failed to yet register as an operating entity with the Revenue commissioners or CRO for tax and revenue declaration purposes. The company is also breaching consumer rights following a sudden change in refund policy following our expose along with a systemic failure by Mr Sagons company to comply with vaccination protocols in Ireland.

We also bring you the details of the case of Veterinary inspector Michael O Reilly of Cork convicted and fined for animal neglect recently and banned for 7 years from keeping any dogs.
