Welcome to the Bed Head Chronicles.

Today, I want to talk about the beauty of these magical souls. This little guy, here, his name is Wonder. He's got one blind eye.

Horses are so beautiful. We let them out on our property yesterday. We let them run free, but there is always that one horse that stayed back with Wonder to make sure he knew where to go, that he knew where the heard was, and to keep him from running into anything he couldn't see.

This one, Promise, here, with the white stripe down her nose -- she couldn't figure out how to get out the fence onto the main property. All the horses came back to try and show her to move up to the gate and go through the gate. They were trying to show her how to get through. She still didn't get it.

So, they ran off and ate some grass for a few minutes. Separately, two or three horses kept coming back to try and show her the way out. She finally figured it out.

Eventually, the whole entire herd here of eight -- these are the eight that I saved on my birthday from slaughter -- the whole group of eight were able to go enjoy running free on our land together.

But they were all there for each other. Thinking about one another, first. They would have never thought about leaving without protecting this guy. They would have never thought about leaving this one without being able to join the herd.

Imagine if, as humans, we thought about one another in that way every single day. Thinking about others before we think about ourselves. Thinking about how we can help one another. How we can bring out the best in one another. How we can support one another. And how we can truly embrace this beautiful gift of life together.

Because life shared with others is a beautiful life, and so fulfilling. And when we think about others and act with others in mind, that's truly living a fulfilling life.

So, how can you, today, and this week, and always, find a way to think about others first? Share with others? Support others?

By bringing out the best in all those around you, you're bringing out the best in yourself and creating energy and a life that truly is magical.

I think my biggest message of all is, you know, I was a far from a perfect kid. A far from a perfect adult. I had so many insecurities, fears, anxieties. And, I think a lot of us who are successful -- and we're all successful in something, so everybody out there, you know, when we're successful, I think a lot of us hide the parts of ourselves that we are not so proud of. And what's happened to me in the last 10 years of my life is I decided, "You know what? I'm tired of hiding who I am -- and that was I'm a gay woman. Most of my career I had to be in the closet because I nearly lost a sponsor in the beginning when they found out that I was gay; and they basically said "Go grow your hair long, get a boyfriend, and we'll be all set. "

So, a part of me felt like Everything I achieve means nothing because I'm gay. That was kind of belief I was carrying around with me. And then I met my wife. She's an Australian -- Rebecca Keat -- and I tell you what, realizing that I was capable of finding the love that I always thought was a thing of fairy tales, that I was worthy of that -- it was like the greatest gift in the whole wide world. And I decided, pretty much on the day we got married, that you know what? I am just going to be all of who I am because people need to know that whoever put us on this Earth, whatever you believe in -- God, the universe, whatever -- whoever put us here, put us here exactly as we are because this is what we are intended to be.

And if you are hiding parts of yourself and going out in life and try to be great in your career, great your family, great at this, but you're operating at half strength, which I was doing -- I was operating with half of me out there, you know, getting on with the other half sitting on the bench because I'm like, 'stay home. Stay home. You're not going to be accepted.' You know, you're operating at half strength.

So on that day when I married my wife, I said this is it. I'm just being me. I don't care anymore because I have your love, and that's all I need. And, I tell you what, once I just started coming out talking about not just be gay -- I mean really that comes up really late, but just talking about things that I used to be ashamed about like my anxiety and how fearful I was and the mistakes I've made in my life.

But when you come out we speak about these things, people understand that they're not alone. We're all human. When we can express all of who we are and be fearlessly authentic -- Holy smokes! My world, my life, opened up. and I can't even express to you what it feels like to be operating full force. What's happening is that when you're either talking to someone in business or trying to develop a relationship with someone or your friends -- if there are parts of you that you're hiding away whatever that is -- there's this sense of resistance there, you know, you can almost, like, you don't know what it is. This kind of like, I don't know, you know, we're not that close or I don't know them that well.

But once you rip off all the masks -- and again, that can refer to anything, you know, anything, you know, maybe being in a job where on your resume you said you had all this experience, but you really didn't. So you're kind of not as experienced as they think -- like ripping that off because hey I'm doing a great job, but I have to tell you I was really scared when I sent my resume and because I really wasn't as great as I sounded there, but I think I'm doing a great job now. But oh my God now the scary, you know, even that kind of honesty and ripping off the masks -- it just it makes your relationships deeper, your experiences richer, people trust you more right away because they know that you're just being you.

And I truly believe that we weren't put here on Earth with huge faults or limits, you know? We were put here exactly the way we were meant to be. So my belief is that everyone should just be out there operating at full force, being all of who they are. And if you can be courageous enough or brave enough to do that, you will see your life change and most extraordinary ways. It really is incredibly powerful. Scary in the beginning but so powerful.

The Bed Head Chronicles - Pushing Through the Bad Moments

Pushing Through the Bad Moments

The Bed Head Chronicles

play

09/02/19 • 3 min

Good morning, everyone and welcome to the Bed Head Chronicles.

Today, I want to talk about that moment -- and I'm going to use this in an example of an athlete, okay? But this totally relates to life itself or any situation that you're faced with in life. The athletes in the middle of the race and they feel like oh my God, I just have nothing left.

It's at that moment when you feel like you want to give up. You want to give in. You want to back off because you feel like you have nothing left. It is so important at that moment to ask yourself the question, "Is this really true? Do I really have nothing left or is it that I'm just tired of being uncomfortable? What will this mean if I break through this discomfort and keep pushing on?"

Perhaps that will take me to a whole new level. I going to expand my pain threshold. I'm going to expand my ability to be relentless, to be resilient, and to find more even when I think there's nothing left.

In those moments when you feel like giving up, whatever story it is that you're telling yourself, whether it's I have nothing left -- that is the time to ask yourself a very quality important question: "Is this true?"

Because as if you investigate this thought, this belief you, will find that you can find a much better, more empowering solution; and that is: "No. I'm just tired of being uncomfortable."

But this is what it takes. This is what it takes to break through to the other side. And to have the performance I dream of. Or to have the relationship I dream of. Or to get the result that I'm looking for.

No matter what we're talking about in life, ask yourself better questions in those moments when you want to give up. Because if you can find a more empowering answer, it will fuel you and take you to all-new levels of performance. Whether you're in a race or doing something athletic or trying to take your relationship to the next level.

We can always find a way out, but the important lesson is always to find a way through. Not around it, not under it, not backing away. But find your way through, and you will break through to a whole new level of strength, confidence, resilience, and relentlessness. And that is what will take you to achieve your goals.

Empower yourself. The thoughts that you think, the beliefs that you have are what will determine your entire state. And your state determines everything. So choose to empower yourself. Find the empowering meaning. Find a way to break through to the other side. You got this.

Have an amazing day.

The Bed Head Chronicles - Who Do You Dream of Being

Who Do You Dream of Being

The Bed Head Chronicles

play

08/30/19 • 2 min

Good morning, everyone and welcome to the Bed Head Chronicles.

Today, I want you to think about the ultimate goal that you hope to achieve or that dream that you have.

I want you to be able to visualize and see yourself down the road, whether it be six months or a year or five years down the road, having achieved that ultimate goal. Having achieved that ultimate dream.

Who are you in that space? What do you look like? What's your energy? Like? What's your attitude like? What is your what are you focusing on most of the time? What kind of an impact are you having on the world and on all those around you? How do you feel inside? The joy, the love, the passion, whatever, it is.

As you visualize that -- If you think about everything life, we have role models. We have people we look up to and admire. People that we model. People that we hope to be like when we get older, further down the road.

I want you to see your future self having achieved everything you dream of. Know what you're going to be feeling, what you're focusing on, what your life looks like, who you are, and start becoming that person today.

Start embodying all those qualities that you see in your future self and start working towards becoming that version of you.

It's all about being better than we were the day before and taking one step closer to creating the lives and experience of life that we all dream of. So just like we may have someone that we model or someone that we look up to you or somebody that's a hero to us.

See your future self is as that hero -- that superhero that you're looking up to. And every single day, take one step closer to becoming that version of you.

You're perfect just the way that you are and you have everything you need inside of you, but we all want to continue to grow and to evolve and to achieve our goals and our dreams. Who do we need to become to achieve those ultimate goals and dreams that we have? Take one step closer to being that version of you today.

Have an amazing day everybody.

The Bed Head Chronicles - The Power of Vulnerability

The Power of Vulnerability

The Bed Head Chronicles

play

08/29/19 • 3 min

Good morning, everyone and welcome to the Bed Head Chronicles.

Today, I want to talk about the power of vulnerability.

There is such great power in being real and speaking from your heart and letting all those around you know the truth of what your experience of life is like.

Starting with relationships -- imagine when you are developing a bond with someone. The more real you can be with them -- the more you can tell them about your dreams and what lights up your soul and your fears and your anxieties... that invites them to truly know you. And it makes it feel special that you're sharing a part of you that not everyone else in the world gets to see.

Vulnerability allows you to deepen your relationship, to deepen your understanding of one another and what it's going to take to love that other person with all your heart and in a way that lights up there soul.

Being vulnerable in your job, whether it be as a manager has a CEO or, for me, has as a coach. I think it's so important that my athletes know that I got to where I am not because I had this perfect road of successes and I had everything I needed to to make it to the top.

I let them know that I've been afraid I've been stifled by my anxiety. I have failed over and over and over again. I've been disappointed over and over again, but that's how I learned. That's how I grew. That's how I how I built up my confidence and my resilience and my relentlessness.

We all need to know that success is not a perfect road. That they should expect to be afraid because it means that they care. They should expect to be anxious. It means they're excited.

In being vulnerable, we're allowing all those around us to be the same. We're allowing all those around us to know the truth of what it is to be human, what it is to shoot for the stars, and to be afraid and to know that it's going to be a bumpy road where you fell often and you're disappointed often.

But that's how you learn. That's how you grow. That's how we make progress.

We're more vulnerable., we are opening up such room for a greater depth in every relationship that we have, and that is what makes life so incredible. Be vulnerable.

You don't want your kids to think that life is easy because the minute that it starts getting hard, they think they're the only one that is struggling. And that's just not true. Let them know the reality of what life is like. The reality of what it's like to be under pressure, to go through a hard time so that they feel safe and they know that what they're experiencing is normal and then they won't make it out the other side stronger than ever before.

So today, everybody, be vulnerable. Be real with all those around you and understand that you are truly helping others by giving them courage and faith in the strength knowing that they are on the right path and that they will get to where they dream of going. Because you have. And you're the example and you're being real with them and sharing everything about what it takes to be the best that you can be in your life.

Thank you, everyone, and have an amazing day.

The Bed Head Chronicles - What Is Your Identity?

What Is Your Identity?

The Bed Head Chronicles

play

11/26/20 • 3 min

Good morning, everyone. And welcome to the Bed Head Chronicles. Today, I wanna talk about identity. Who we believe we are. Oftentimes our identity is tied to our job. For example, when I was a triathlete, you know, my dream and my goal was to become a world champion triathlete. Now that could have become my identity.

But the fact of matter is that identity is so much more than just what we achieve or what we do in our lives. When I retired from triathlon in 2002, I was number one in the world and people couldn't understand why are you retiring? You're still winning races. You're you're number one. This is crazy. But the thing was that I had found what I was looking for.

I had found my true identity. That comes from within me. And that is the identity that I am someone who can have a dream and will throw my heart and soul and everything I have in to making that dream come true. I am resilient. I am, I am passionate. I could fall down and be disappointed and fail, but I would get back up every single time and do whatever it took to achieve my dream.

I am resilient. I am brave. I am courageous. I am strong. And I love with all my heart and soul. My identity doesn't come from what I do or what I have achieved. My identity is who I am on the inside. I love deeply. I care about others. I not only wanna bring out the best in myself, but I wanna bring out the best in everyone around me.

I want to inspire, I want to empower. I want to. I want to teach. I want to take everything that I've experienced in my life and share that with the world and, and teach through my own experiences and through what I've learned along this amazing path of life. I'm an animal lover. I love my wife. I love my family.

I love my friends deeply, and I love this life. That's my identity. So when you're struggling with your identity, when you're struggling to maybe let go of something that has defined you for most of your life. Remember that that's not who you are. You are so much more than what you do on a daily basis.

Your identity comes from within. It's how deeply you love, how deeply you care, how much you give to the world around you. Find your identity in those things, because those are the things that really matter. And that is truly who you are. Have an amazing day everybody.

The Bed Head Chronicles - When the Student is Ready the Teacher Appears
play

07/28/19 • 8 min

Welcome to the Bed Head Chronicles.

Today I want to talk about when the student is ready, the teacher appears.

When I think about that statement, and I think about so many times in my life where I was in a place, even without knowing it, I was so ready to learn something new -- something that I know was truly going to change my life.

Back when I was 20 when I didn't even know if I could take another day, my teacher appeared. Tony Robbins, in the form of his book "Unlimited Power". What he taught me through that book literally saved my life and changed my life.

It was on that night, after finishing that book, when I realized that I am the conductor of my own symphony of my life. At that point in time, I was hating the music I was creating and even live inside my own body. But I realized that I am the only one that has the power to change that. That book completely empowered me and made me realize that what we focus on the meaning that we give things and what we choose to do about it changes entirely our experience of life.

So, at that time, I was a student; my teach appeared, Tony Robbins, in the form of "Unlimited Power".

Another time, if you look up here above my left shoulder, Savannah, my rescue horse -- the first rescue horse we ever had -- and I had no intentions of having a horse -- but we were out in California, my wife and I, we're on a sabbatical, I'm writing my book, every morning I'm walking the dogs down the road about a mile and my turn around point was at a little farm where there was this gorgeous horse by the name of Giselle.

Every day, I would just pat her head and scratch her back. Every day this bond developed. It became deeper and deeper. I fell in love with this horse and was struck by how she made me feel. After I had visited her, I felt so clear. I felt so calm. I felt so confident.

When we came home from that trip, I was riding my bike down a road that I had ridden nearly for years, and I looked and saw a sign that said Colorado Horse Rescue and thought 'what are you rescuing horses from?' I went in and met Savannah, and ended up rescuing Savannah. I ended up researching 'Why? What are you rescuing them from?' and watching this video that was absolutely devastating to me.

It was so devastating to watch that I fell to the ground in tears, bawling, over the realization that these beautiful healers and teachers were being neglected, abused, beaten and slaughtered after a very long and painful road.

That changed my whole life and my whole mission.

Back to the story of when the student is ready, the teacher appears. When Savannah came into my life, I didn't even realize that I was ready to learn and grow and reach a new level in my life. But she made it very clear that she was there for a purpose. What she did was she stretched me in every way. Not just physically where I had to overcome my fear of heights, my fear of not being in control in riding this nearly 2,000-pound beast. I had to learn to really trust. I needed to really pay attention to my energy and how certain events or certain things would happen throughout the day -- how it would affect my energy and how that energy would repel the things that I wanted in my life.

She became this incredible teacher that not only helped me overcome a lot of my fears, but made me super aware of my own energy, how I respond in certain situations, and how I can learn to pay attention to my own energy and use that information, that knowledge, that self-awareness to truly be the best that I can be in every situation. She stretched me to become a better leader. She stretched me to recognized the power we all have within ourselves.

So, she came at a time where I could have very easily settled into this great life that I had. But what I realized is I have so much more to give this world. I had so much more to share. So much more to teach. So much more to offer that could make a difference in this world. And I have her to thank.

My other teacher, up here, Calvin, he really taught me the power of unconditional love and truly accepting ourselves and one another and accepting the beauty in every aspect in who we are and who the people around us are, and loving them for exactly that. He taught me a love that I have never experienced before.

So, these teachers, they're around us everywhere. Sometimes, you won't know that you're ready for the teacher to arrive. But when you suddenly start feeling your life change, your awareness about yourself or about your life truly taking on a new level, you'll know that your teacher is nearby.

We are all teachers, as well, so keep that in mind. We can learn from everyone around us, whether it's our animals, our family, our friends, or a perfect stranger. There are teachers everywhere, and it truly is such an incredible gift, such a blessing, to realize that every single day, every single moment, we have the ...
