The Beautiful Mess - Information Overload and What It Does to Your Brain
play

02/17/22 • 24 min

In this episode, Paul dives into the impact technology and the internet has on our brains. If you look at the data and the neuroscience behind technology use, we encounter around 4000-10000 ads per day and the media-rich content we consume overwhelms our brain. Back in 2012, a study found that we were consuming around 63 gigabytes a day. Fast forward 10 years and that number is likely to have increased. "Rich media" is overloading our brains. We were made to learn thimble by thimble, not by drinking out of the water hose of modern media. Our cognitive abilities were not made to handle the overstimulation of our brain. 🎒 RESOURCES What The Internet Is Doing to Our Brains: The Shallows by Nicholas Carr Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport Smartphone Use Data from Statista Article on How Many Times a Day You Check Your Phone Article on Americans' Media Consumption Forbes Article with Ad Data ✅ Follow The Beautiful Mess ➡️ You can also follow me here: YouTube: https://youtube.com/pauldittus IG: https://www.instagram.com/pauldittus/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/pauldittus Website: https://pauldittus.com Hosted by Paul Dittus (@pauldittus)
