Most Reverend Edward J. Burns, Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas, brings the leaven and the levity to this episode as he shares the details of his vocation journey. This conversation offers an opportunity to get to know Bishop Burns on a deeper level and to join him for a series of meaningful reflections and belly-aching laughs.

Bishop Burns desires to bring others before our Lord Jesus Christ and keeps that mission at the forefront of everything he does. He is a servant leader, and his motto is Pray with Confidence.

Bishop Burns was ordained to the priesthood with the Diocese of Pittsburgh on June 25, 1983. Next, he was ordained a Bishop and installed in the Diocese of Juneau, Alaska, in 2009. The Diocese of Dallas was blessed when the Most Reverend Edward J. Burns was installed as the eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas in 2017.

In this episode, the Dudes face off in a game of Blessed are the Joke Makers in which they must take on the persona of an eccentric billionaire to address the prompt, “The Pope is writing about _____ right now.”

And to finish off the show with our very special Reverse Simpsons, the Dudes ask Bishop Burns nine rapid-fire questions in a game of “Burning Questions for Bishop Burns.”

The Catholic Gentleman is one of the most impactful brands for equipping men to live for Christ by serving their families, neighbors, and the church. In this week’s episodes, the owner and director of The Catholic Gentleman, John Heinen, joins the BeatiDudes for a well-balanced dose of folly and formation.

The show starts with a reflection on Pope Saint John Paul II’s use of Jeff’s favorite word, penultimate, in Evangelium Vitae when he states that life on earth is not an "ultimate" but a "penultimate" reality.

John and his wife have a large family, including children here on Earth and others in Heaven, and they are currently expecting another child. Please offer a prayer for their entire family during the show.

John is also the Vice President of a marketing firm called Fuzati, which is a fun combination of the words fusion, technology, and information. They help clients with business strategy, marketing, social media, and strategy implementation.

Through the efforts of the team at Fuzati, The Catholic Gentleman has become the most recognizable online men’s apostolate. Each week hundreds of thousands of men around the world visit their site for articles and products designed to encourage a life of authentic manhood. The Catholic Gentleman is one of our favorite podcasts, give it a lesson.

The BeatiDudes have a lot of fun on this week’s Blessed are the Joke Makers, during which they must complete the sentence, “The eleventh plague {blank},” as an aging beauty queen.

John reflects on what St. Augustine said about the fall of man and how three things were ruptured: our relationship with God, our relationship with others, and our relationship internally. The conversation goes deeper into virtues and how we become slaves to our desires when we don’t keep passion, profit, and power in check.

John and the Dudes take on a new question from The BeatiDudes (TBD) Question Deck: What are you struggling with?

The show concludes with an incredible rendition of Reverse Simpsons called “The Bread of Wife Discourse.” This segment was suggested by Jarod Frank and sponsored by his company, Wealth Coordination Partners. He aims to bring his wealth management expertise to more Catholics, check him out at https://www.wealthcoordinationpartners.com/ and https://www.linkedin.com/in/jerod-frank/.

But wait – John has a surprise twist on the Bread of Wife Discourse that you won’t want to miss.

Fr. Fergal O’Duill is an Irish-born priest with a deep love for Jesus. Throughout his discernment journey, Fr. Fergal was continuously shown that God’s plan was always better than his own.

Fr. Fergal starts us off episode two with a reflection on his childhood as the youngest of 8 kids growing up in Ireland. Fr. Fergal was raised by a fervent Catholic father who modeled a love for the Lord and a deep friendship with Jesus. During college, he came to realize that God loved him and had a plan for his life, setting him on a journey of evangelization that led to the priesthood.

On Blessed are the Joke Makers, the Dudes must take on the persona of a die-hard conservative to address the prompt, “The newest Catholic podcast talks entirely about ___________.”

For the TBD Question of the day, each Dude is asked to reflect on a gift they have each been given by the Holy Spirit.

The show concludes with a traditional Irish blessing to send you on your way.

On Easter Sunday, 2011, Chris Faddis’ late wife Angela was admitted to the hospital after an emergency room visit revealed a large mass in her colon and multiple masses in her liver. The diagnosis was stage IV metastatic colon cancer, with no chance of a cure. Upon doctors informing the couple of the news, Angela’s words to Chris were, “Jesus still rose, so we will trust.”

Her witness in death inspired Chris and his friend Dr. John Oertle to launch Solidarity HealthShare, a national not-for-profit ministry that provides an affordable and ethical alternative to fund healthcare costs while protecting and practicing Catholic beliefs. Chris shares the ups and downs of getting Solidarity off the ground and enjoys many laughs and some singalongs with the BeatiDudes throughout it all.

Chris is married to Jennifer, and they have five beautiful children.

On Blessed are the Joke Makers, the Dudes must take on the persona of the world’s greatest salesperson to address the prompt, “Jesus specialized in ______ before his public ministry.” Paul delivers a mic-drop moment for the ages.

The TBD Question of the day - “What is a time in your life that you wish you could do over?”

The show concludes in true Reverse Simpsons fashion when Chris and the Dudes go head-to-head in a grip-strength competition.

The BeatiDudes welcome one of their favorite priests, Fr. Edwin Leonard, Pastor of St Ann Parish in Coppell, where the Dudes are parishioners with their families.

Fr. Edwin shares the spirit-led way in which St. Ann Parish encourages participation and receives each person with abundant hospitality. While describing St. Ann’s openness to new ideas, it becomes clear to the Dudes that St. Ann follows the first rule of improv – “Yes, and” – as that is part of their unique approach to ministry.

During Blessed are the Joke Makers, with 72 points of the line, the Dudes must address the question, “What is talked about at the pub,” as a new parent.

Fr. Edwin shares exciting updates about St. Ann Parish, including the new missionary institute, the addition of 2 new priests, and a church renovation to bring the tabernacle into the main sanctuary of the parish. He then reflects on the beauty of all types of worship, from the most traditional to the most charismatic.

Then during the TBD Question of the Day, the Dudes and Fr. Edwin reflect on a fight-or-flight moment from each of their lives.

And you won’t want to miss the most amazing reverse Simpsons ending, during which Fr. Edwin is asked to sing Taylor Swift.

Rob Hays, CEO of Ashford Hospitality, is a finance and business leader with two decades of experience in strategy and corporate finance. He is passionate about finding innovative ways to solve problems, particularly for businesses and industries that are trying to build a better society and have a focus on human flourishing.

In addition to his business skills and accomplishments, Rob enjoys intellectual & moral formation, the integration of faith in professional life, helping those who struggle with issues of homelessness, and striving to live as a faithful Catholic husband, father, friend, and mentor.

Rob shares his reflection on how difficult it was to navigate the 2020 shutdowns while running a hospitality company that needed to furlough roughly 90% of its workforce. Around that same time, Rob was asked if he would move into the CEO role, which he gladly accepted after a powerful conversation with his dad.

When reflecting on how he managed the stress of the situation, Rob was grateful that he had formed the habits of daily prayer, Rosaries, and mass before facing the storm. He found that he could not make it through the day if not for those spiritual habits.

On Blessed are the Joke Makers, the Dudes must take on the persona of an incompetent doctor to address the prompt, “a Catholic’s secret guilty pleasure.”

Heading in the break, Rob is put on the spot and sings an incredible rendition of “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys.

Next, Rob goes on to detail life as the CEO of “meme stock” and the rollercoaster that ensured. Next the Dudes and Rob answer the BeatiDudes (TBD) question of the day, “What is something you want more of in your life?”

The show finishes with a Reverse Simpsons game of Secret Santa that is full of great surprises.

Rob shares more about his family during this episode as he and his wife prepare to welcome baby #7 in just a few weeks. He also reflects that having four boys first, before a string of 3 girls, led to maximum chaos in his house for many years. He also drops child-raising wisdom on the Dudes and references Jim Stenson’s book Father, The Family Protector. He reminds us to always bear in mind that we are raising adults.

On Blessed are the Joke Makers Bonus Edition, the Dudes must take different personas for Rob to guess as they address the prompt, “Records of _____ are found in the secret Vatican archives.”

This episode of The BeatiDudes comes with a disclaimer - - This must-hear episode is highly emotional, and we recommend that you put yourself in the right place (physically and emotionally) to fully experience the show.

Todd has over 25 years of business management and consulting experience in bringing digital and interactive initiatives to fruition through leadership, strategic alliances, processes, and technologies in industries such as media and entertainment. Todd holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Texas A&M.

He is the co-founder of Taylor’s Gift Foundation, an award-winning 501c3 non-profit focused on organ donation and grief support for donor families. Taylor’s Gift is a compassionate source of hope, ensuring donor families never have to grieve alone.

Taylor’s Gift Foundation was started after Todd and his wife lost their daughter Taylor in a skiing accident in March of 2010. In the hospital, they faced a pivotal moment as they were asked if they would consider donating Taylor’s organs to improve and save the lives of 5 other people.

Todd shares the highly emotional and inspirational story of Taylor and her impact on the world, including her 13 years on earth and the way she outlived herself as an organ donor.

Make sure you are registered in your state for organ donation at the Taylor’s Gift website.

Taylor’s story includes tales of connecting with the organ recipients, sharing Taylor’s story on national media, the Ellen DeGeneres show, and a very special school poem written by Taylor shortly before she passed called “I am.” That poem is read on today’s show by Jeff Schiefelbein’s 8-year-old daughter, a moment that cannot be described in words.

After the break, the Dudes play “Blessed are the Joke Makers” and must determine the “Topic of the next Papal Encyclical” as the “Wildest party animal.”

Then Todd joins the Dudes in answering the TBD (The BeatiDudes) Question – What is something you admire about your father-in-law?

Reverse Simpsons – Paul leads the crew in an improv game of word association that eventually leads to storytelling throughout the team.
