About Laura
Laura is a woodwind musician from Melbourne, Australia. She specialises in clarinet performance and teaching woodwinds including clarinet, saxophone and flute.
Laura completed her Bachelor of music under clarinetist David Griffiths, and received masterclasses from musicians including Sabine Meyer and Paul Meyer. Laura has used her music experience to create her own career pathway, through becoming a woodwind teacher both privately and in schools, as well as creating a name for herself on social media under @laura_clarinetist on instagram, and launching her successful business Virtual Concert Band.
Laura is passionate about exploring different avenues in music, to create value for young musicians, and help keep her passion alive. Her social media presence has brought her to work with brands such as Backun, D’Addario, Legere, Soundbrenner and RatStands. She has had the pleasure of playing virtually with Corrado Giuffredi, and even making an appearance on 2 episodes of the Clarineat Podcast by Sean Perrin.
Laura aims to bring wind musicians from around the globe together through her Virtual Concert Band endeavours, and to inspire the younger generation through her online content, and teaching.

About Giovanni
Giovanni Santos serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Wind and Percussion Studies at La Sierra University, where he directs the University Wind Ensemble, Chamber Winds, Big Band, and teaches courses in instrumental music education, popular music, and conducting (currently on study-leave).
Professor Santos has conducted successful performances across the United States and Europe. Most recently, Santos led successful performances at Carnegie Hall, the Disney Concert Hall, and the Kennedy Center of the Arts (with the US Naval Academy Band Brass Ensemble).
Santos has proudly implemented a yearly wind band conducting workshop at La Sierra University, and has worked alongside Prof. H. Robert Reynolds, Dr. Thomas Lee, Dr. Travis J. Cross, and Prof. Allan McMurray, helping some of the brightest young music educators in the United States. A strong advocate for music education, Santos frequently presents at conferences, school in-service days, classrooms, and as clinician for young ensembles across the US. Most recently, Prof. Santos presented at the California All-State Music Education Conference (CASMEC), for the California Music Educators Association’s ‘Casting a Wider in Net at Azusa Pacific University, the North American Division National Teachers Convention, the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago, the 2019 SCSBOA Professional Development Conference, and for the College Band Directors National Association National Conference at Arizona State University.
Santos is a graduate of La Sierra University (B. Mus) and earned his MM in Music Education from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, where he was also a scholarship trumpet student. He has been published by the International Trumpet Guild Journal on two occasions. Santos had the privilege of studying trumpet with Richard Hofmann, Boyde Hood, and Donald Green. Santos also enjoys composing chamber music and wind band works and has been commissioned by high schools, community bands, and universities across the United States.
Professor Santos is inspired by his family. His wife Tanya, is an elementary teacher in Perris, CA. Tanya and Giovanni are proud parents of Gianna and David.

We spoke about what MusiCounts is, the many wonderful programs they offer to help support: music educators, students, community groups, school music program and even parents teaching their children at home. We also speak about Nick’s view of the broader picture of Music Education in Canada.
About Nick
Nick Godsoe is a grants manager, tuba player and researcher from Saint John, NB. He holds a B.Mus from Mount Allison University as well as an M.A. in Musicology from the the University of Toronto, where he also began his doctoral studies. Nick is currently the Manager of Programs & Education with MusiCounts, Canada's music education charity associated with the JUNO Awards. In this role, Nick oversees all of MusiCounts' grant, scholarship and learning resource programs that improve access to music education for in-need youth in Canada. Nick also serves on the Board of Directors with Rainbow Songs Foundation, a Toronto-based charity that provides free music programs to underserved children in the GTA using shelter and refugee services.
