Checking in through dark times

The Audacious Life - Break Free

play

06/07/20 • 46 min

Man, we've been through a ton these last few months. I know it's been intense, hard to predict what's next, and challenging to stay positive even for those who are generally pretty upbeat.

The quarantine, work from home, homeschooling, mask-wearing, and social distancing, along with the racism we're working through as a nation has impacted me for sure.

So I'm sharing what's been going on in my world and what I plan to do with the podcast and other aspects of my life as a result of the impact of COVID and all that's come along with it.

And I'm checking in to see how you're doing too. I'd love to hear from you!

As I mentioned in this episode, I'll be using my YouTube channel's community tab to check in more regularly via short stories, posts, curating videos related to healing and dealing, all things related to personal growth, mindset, and starting and growing your personal brand and business online.

Check it out and subscribe here so we can be in touch. Please leave me comments, I will respond, YouTube is my #1 place to hang out and be social. :-)

My youTube channel is here and I would love it if you subscribed and hit the bell to get notifications for when I go live or publish new content. https://www.youtube.com/c/TheAudaciousLifePodcast

Black Lives Matter and George Floyd was a human treated like an animal.

The site identifies what 8 things that can be done to help your city's police department to be safe and decrease violence by 72%.

If this resonates and you're interested in making a difference with racism and unnecessary police brutality check out https://8cantwait.org/

I intentionally avoid local news coverage and do my best to have a lighter diet of news each day. Sothis NY Times mini-documentary, 8 Minutes and 47 Seconds is about what happened to George Floyd. It's well-produced and gave me a much better sense of exactly what happened and why the 8 Can't Wait site is so important.

Will it end racism? No.

But it will make a tangible difference in the lives of all citizens but especially the most vulnerable, people of color. Please watch.

Stay healthy, take care of yourself first, mind and spirit. Act with Love as your guide and all will be well.

Thank you!!

I appreciate you as a listener and I'm sending healthy thoughts and prayers your way. I hope to connect with you soon.

Be well,

Steph

Suicide: The Last Person You'd Expect

The Audacious Life - Break Free

play

10/14/19 • 78 min

Last week was Mental Health Awareness week. We may think we know what someone who's suffering looks like. Do you? Maybe you have the image of someone unbathed with their head down, choosing not to join in at public gatherings. But it's not that simple.

In this episode, we have DeAnn Wandler-Vukovich a USMC veteran, with an accomplished career in higher education, including multiple wellness certifications. She's the picture of health and success but also a survivor of multiple suicide attempts who is now a suicide prevention advocate, speaker, and coach.

DeAnn shares her story. What led her to consider suicide and eventually follow through and attempt to take her life?

How do we help if we suspect someone we love is on a slippery path or if we're not sure we can go on?

Mentioned in this episode

---------

Thank you for listening to this important episode. I think the struggle to be okay is real, and it's not something most people want to talk about openly. So if you need a sympathetic ear, please do call the hotline for NAMI.org or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to connect with another human being who will listen.

Sometimes we struggle, and there's no one there.

We may have lots of "friends" on social media, but when it comes right down to it often, there's no one to turn to and feel safe sharing scary thoughts. This is why it makes sense to reach out anonymously to get support without judgment. Whatever feels right for you and will give you comfort to inch you toward a better place! xoxo

Please know above all else that I made this episode because I have TRULY BEEN THERE. And quite a few times. The struggle is REAL, and it's no joke. If you want to reach out to me, I'm not the fastest responder given my current circumstances with a new job and restrictions, but I will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can.

The best ways to reach me are [email protected] and @audaciouslife on Instagram.

Lots and lots of Love to you!! Please know and remember, I hold you in my thoughts and prayers daily. xoxo!!!

Love, Steph

Does a Chaotic Childhood Result in a Chaotic Unsuccessful Adult Life?

It's a great question. I'm sure most of us would respond with a resounding, "Yes!"

It's refreshing when we find evidence against this assumption.

Enter Author and successful executive Hope Mueller. Hope shares her early experience of mostly raising herself as a child in a free wheeling commune where sexual freedom, drugs, and no real sense of limitation or structure were to be found.

Hope's story is shared through her new book, "Hopey: from Commune to corner office." Here you'll understand how she made the leap from chaos into the structure of a corporate business environment. She's a mom of four in a healthy marriage and seems happy and well adjusted.

If you're feeling like you can only control so many aspects of your life or the lives of your children and sometimes this realization is sobering if not a bit depressing, you need to hear this interview.

What if those same out of control things are exactly what will create resilience and a unique perspective, perhaps even a drive to achieve or create a life vastly different the one they were raised in?

Season 4 - Pause. Rest Before You Start Again

The Audacious Life - Break Free

play

09/07/19 • 8 min

Welcome to Season 4 of the Audacious Life Podcast! I hope you're well! I'm happy to be back with this short episode to update you on the summer break, what's been happening, and the direction I'm taking the podcast. The title of this episode is "Pause. Rest Before You Start Again." I chose this title because I see in myself and so many of the women in my life and work that we don't excuse ourselves to take a break from something when we're overwhelmed, feeling blue, under-the-weather, or simply burned out from all the plates we have spinning. I took a much-needed break from my two podcasts in August. It was not planned but it gave me room to breathe, focus on what needed my attention, and allowed me space to reconsider how I've been approaching my podcasts. The good the bad and the ugly. In spite of letting down listeners, I'm happy I did it. I needed the clarity it brought and the time to take care of some challenges. In short, here's what I learned. No one is going to grant you permission to hop off the hamster wheel of life. And that's good news, it means you created it, you're in charge and you get to find the things that you can intentionally pause so you can regroup when necessary. Maybe it's not your work or the things you do around the house. Maybe it's the extra stuff that used to fill you up but now seems like drudgery or work. If you used to garden because it was fun and made you happy but now you're helping out with the town's flower beds and it's become too much. STOP. PAUSE. RETHINK. If it's optional and it's no longer bringing you joy maybe it's time to reflect on where best to spend your time. It doesn't mean you have to quit but maybe there's a less time-consuming approach you can take so it feels good again. In this episode, I announce one big decision I made about my podcasts. I'm optimistic and excited about it. I don't think I would've arrived at this decision without the time off. I'd love to hear about you. Have you taken an intentional break from something in your life to rest, gain clarity, and move forward? How did it work out for you? Shoot me your story [email protected] - I'd love to hear from you! Have a great day! Steph

Power of Forgiveness - Releasing Dark Energy to Heal Releasing negative thoughts, anger, and bitterness to heal faster

I was compelled to share this message today ahead of the interviews I have scheduled. It was a powerful tap on the shoulder from God, the Universe, higher power, whatever name you have for that force. It began by listening to a video on youTube.

I dropped everything to share this one because I believe it's the key to moving forward and breaking cycles of dysfunction and abuse.

It's far too easy to stay in rumination mode trying to make sense of why things are the way they are or why they have unfolded as they have. But when we do this we're keeping ourselves stuck in the same gear, the same wavelength, planted there feeding the negative energy, and it's like waving a flag asking for more of the same. No bueno!!

If we want to move out of this negative space and free ourselves from the muck, we can release the anger, the bitterness, and all sense of victim thinking and trade it for more positive thoughts that are on the other side of the spectrum.

Focus on allowing forgiveness and gratitude to well up. Search for things to be grateful for, things of any size. Start super small if it's easier. A smile from a stranger, a positive interaction with customer service that could've been difficult.

All these tiny choices to focus on and recognized the positive add up to fuel our hope, faith, and optimism and result in more Love, joy, and bring us out of a dark place and into light.

Mentioned in this episode...

See the original video by Aluna Ash that inspired this episode. It might be a little much for some of you. If it's too odd, or doesn't resonate, you can just skip it. But it's an excellent explanation about karmic entanglements, how to get out by using opposing forces. So if you're open to it, please do listen. You may have to hear it multiple times from the starting point of 12:10 until 21:00 - after that may be confusing.

An affirmation to repeat and lock into this oppositional mindset:

(God) Help me to release this anger and dissolve it with Love and forgiveness so we can all heal.

Happy Independence Weekend!!

This solo episode is about independence, independent thoughts, and leaving behind or minimizing the things, circumstances, and people that don’t serve to move you forward.

And, liberating ourselves from recurring thoughts, stories, and messages that keep us SMALL or stuck.

It takes work, but it’s work with a massive pay off to do this deliberately. You may not see and feel it immediately, but good DOES show up when we MAKE ROOM for it.

Reach out to me, let me know what you’re working on or what’s worked for you. I'm @audaciouslife on Instagram.

I’m cheering for you and for all of us to liberate ourselves from all of the above.

You can’t see me, but trust that I’m here in prayer and meditation, including YOU in that better place.

Do something FUN to get your happy on today! You deserve it!!

Heading to a family cookout sans kiddos and plan to enjoy my free time.

All of us have been through so much these last few months with quarantine life, protests, racial inequality, and all the powerful feelings behind centuries of injustice coming to the fore. Some of us can urge you to "be positive" or "adopt a positive mindset" but I know it's not that simple.

When things have been truly challenging in my life those phrases have felt feel empty or even triggering more self-criticism.

Maybe you've had some of the following thoughts.

"Why can't I just be positive?"

"How come my mind always goes back to all the possible the negative outcomes??"

"I've been saying these positive affirmations for weeks but I just don't believe them!!"

"I suck at this. Eff those spirit junkies, they can choke on their positivity!!"

I get it.

And I know many of you are in that space where it feels dark, borderline hopeless, and all this positive talk is like putting lipstick on a pig.

So, with that in mind, I'm sharing the concept of Neutral Thinking.

In this episode, I share what it means and a bit about Trevor Moawad, Mental Conditioning expert, and top coach to pro elite athletes. In 2017 Trevor was named the “Sports World's Best Brain Trainer” by Sports Illustrated.

This guy knows what he's talking about. He's done the research, the experimentation, and has solid examples of why this works.

I recently read Trevor's new book "It Takes What It Takes" and I'm reviewing his book along with two amazing interviews you'll appreciate from the Ed Mylett Show and Impact Theory - both on YouTube.

BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS

#1- NEGATIVE thoughts are 4-7Xs more powerful than positive thoughts.

#2- NEGATIVE thoughts SPOKEN are 40-70Xs more powerful and more likely to come to fruition.

#3- Simply AVOIDING voicing or speaking negatively can do you a world of good even if you're not speaking positively.

Let me restate that last one.

Simply AVOIDING voicing or speaking negatively can do you a world of good even if you're NOT speaking positively.

Mic drop.

This is a short episode. So you'll consider this without me droning on and maybe you'll be inspired to adopt this strategy or get his book to learn more.

Either way, I hope you find something helpful here. This concept has truly helped me stay out of the mental muck.

Enjoy!

Steph
