Coronavirus Chronicles - Vol. 1, Ep. 2 w/ Neal Idnani of NaanStop
The Atlanta Foodcast: A Food Podcast
03/26/20 • 13 min
Life is insane. Things move fast on any given day, but we all know this is different. We are creatures of habit and our daily routines have been completely turned upside down. It’s uncomfortable. Unknown. Unfamiliar. Damn hard and filled with hardship — and Hardship hardly captures what is going on right now. It’s hard not to feel heartbroken. The restaurants and coffee shops and businesses you, I, we all love — we all just want them to be there when all of this is over. More than anything.
The reason this podcast as started in the first place was to offer a place for local businesses, restaurants, and people to share their stories. Well, now this is part of everyone’s story — much to anyone and everyone’s chagrin. Though, distress and defeat don’t have to be the only overwhelming thought on our minds. We’re a resilient bunch and I have faith that we’ll find a way through all of this. However, there is nothing wrong with asking for help.
This morning, I caught up with Neal Idnani from NaanStop. The guys have three locations and, much like everyone else, are adapting as fast as they can to keep their business going. Here’s our chat.

The Chai Box - Monica Sunny
The Atlanta Foodcast: A Food Podcast
06/10/19 • 30 min
There’s something truly magical about chai. Not just that it happens to be packed with some of my favorite flavors and spices or that it evokes a holiday feel that carries throughout any month of the calendar year. It’s the ritual of making it — and making it proper. Also, let’s get one thing straight. It’s just CHAI. Not “CHAI TEA.”
Chai, meaning tea, is how you say it. End of story.
Take it from Monica Sunny, co-founder of The Chai Box. Growing up in India, she wanted to bring the memories and ritual of chai she experienced from an early age. Though, not just the tea. It’s the ritual. How it’s made, the time of day, and how to indulge in the act of making it and ultimately enjoying it. I love her story — and especially what she and her cousin have created.
So, I caught up with Monica to hear more of her story. 10/10 of would recommend brewing a chai for yourself prior to listening. Enjoy.

Howard & Anita Hsu - Gezzo's and Sweet Auburn BBQ
The Atlanta Foodcast: A Food Podcast
04/22/19 • 44 min
Howard and Anita are the elder siblings of the Hsu family. Growing up in the burbs of Atlanta, Henry Country, to be exact, their parents’ restaurant was home — constantly surrounded by food. If you caught Chef Ron of Lazy Betty on the show earlier this season, these two have very similar memories of their grandmother cooking for them throughout their early years.
Now, having all taken their own paths, Howard and Anita have been feeding Atlanta for years through Gezzo’s, a west coast burrito spot south of the city, and Sweet Auburn BBQ. Howard and Anita are also two of the OG on the food truck circuit here in Atlanta. Anyways, their story is wonderful. Listen, go grab a burrito if you’re down in McDonough or hit up the curb market for some smoked wings.

Seven - Poke Burri
The Atlanta Foodcast: A Food Podcast
03/13/19 • 36 min
Poke has moved far past the realm of being something new or a fad. It’s settled in the realm of being a norm. It has its own category of dining. It isn’t really sushi, it doesn’t fit the salad realm. Poke, where it’s here to stay, may have never thought it would meet the mind of Seven Chan to then become Poke Burri.
The infamous sushi burrito, pizza, donuts, corndogs, and many other secret menu items have placed Poke Burri and Seven’s creativity at the top of the poke playlist throughout Atlanta. Their claim to fame is that their ingredients are fresh — and there’s no mistaking it. Armed with a massive social following (over 18K Followers on Instagram) and so sign of slowing, these guys continue to bring new energy to the dining category.

Joel Penn & Amanda Newsom - Vinetta
The Atlanta Foodcast: A Food Podcast
02/18/19 • 51 min
Joel, a chef who has worked under many great names, like Terry Koval of Wrecking Bar. Amanda, Communications Manager for The Giving Kitchen. This dynamic duo forms Vinetta - a pop-up that found its roots in Athens way back when in 2013. These two came up with a fun way to host a hungry group of friends and ended up with a dinner series-now pop-up — and they are really picking up steam.
We sat down at A Mano late last year for a conversation.
