The Atalaku Effect

The Atalaku Effect

Claudel Kamgang

Hi, Bonjour, Oi! I am Claudel Kamgang! I am Cameroonian by birth, French by education, Brazilian by adoption, and entrepreneurially American.

Welcome to The Atalaku Effect! Atalaku is a word from Congo, and means "praising". Atalaku to someone thus means praising that person for what she does. After my MBA from Wharton, work at J.P Morgan, McKinsey & Company, LinkedIn and currently Microsoft, it is time to do more.

This podcast is a set of in-depth conversations or solo episodes in English and French, about everything culture, work, sports, relationships, life struggles and everything in-between.

If you are human, this podcast has something for you :)

In this second part, Jonas Aboagye, from Accra (Ghana), tells us about another aspect of his life: marriage and paternity. With a perfect mix of humour and seriousness, we talk about how he met his wife, and the difficulty they went through when their son was born, prematurely, at 28 weeks. We finish this episode by discussing what being a new dad means for him, and how he combines that with the other roles he has to play in life (brother, son, friend, nephew, etc.). Listen to understand his couple's coping mechanism and how that experience strengthen the couple, as well as being a dad from an African point of view.

In today's discussion, we have a down to earth and profound discussion with Sabry Tozin, current VP of Engineering at LinkedIn. Sabry was born in Kinshasa, spent his high school and university in Seattle, before joining the Silicon Valley in 1998. The amazing chat we had relates 20 years of career in the Bay Area in consulting (Accenture), entrepreneurship (Pay By Touch), back to corporate with Fox Interactive, IGN, then Netflix, before joining LinkedIn in 2017. Sabry opens his heart to the failures and struggles he had to fight in the past, while feeling proud and optimism about the future. We finished the conversation by touching on his view on the black condition in the Bay Area since the 1990s, as well as key advice on diversity: what it matters and what to do in some situations. Finally, we get to know Sabry's outside of work, as well as get to hear me provide a message in Lingala. Enjoy!
