This first installment of Holiday Homemaking 2024 is a little different than past episodes. The first half of the episode is a mini deep dive on Advent with wife, mom, homemaker and author, Donna Amidon. She shares how her family practice of decorating a Jesse Tree throughout Advent transformed their celebration of Christmas and led to her new book, Tracing His Promise.

Then we jump into familiar Holiday Homemaking territory with Amanda Faucett's and Holly Tompkins' holiday stories of home, some holiday poetry and some tips from me on coordinating family or group gift giving.

Merry Christmas, Homemakers! In this episode newbie homemaker, Jillian Johnson, tells us what it’s like celebrating not just with a new husband, but in a new country. This year, she’ll be having her 3rd Christmas in Scotland after growing up in Canada. Elizabeth Ours, mom of 10, has some great ideas to share for a large family Christmas. We also touch on what can be a sensitive or even contentious subject, Santa Claus. Elizabeth shares how and why she and her husband recently chose to take Santa out of their celebrations, while I give my thoughts on the place St. Nick holds in our family traditions.
In Holiday Homemaker Hints, I’m talking about gifting subscriptions and experiences as well as my top gift wrap tips, then Jan Roueche and Jenna Punke-Bendt round out the episode with their Christmas memories. It’s going to be another great hour full of Christmas ideas, inspiration, recipes, memories and encouragement.

I am chatting with Darah Rogers who has been keeping a home for several years...including a time of single homemaking in a youth camp cabin during covid and most recently for 2 years with her husband and baby girl. Darah shares how she struggled to reconcile her long standing desire to be at home full time with the cultural pressure she felt to pursue a career and how she is still resolving that struggle. We cover all the usual ground of fails, wins, tips and Titus 2 advice. Darah has that youthful zeal for all the homemaking things and I picked up several new ideas from her!
In Allison's Update, I'm sharing my favorite new kitchen tool, how you can contribute to our Season 20 theme and all about our new private Facebook group, Homemaker Forum.

Join us for this Newbie Homemaker Portrait of my friend, Abby Colbath. Despite your youth and classification as a "Newbie", Abby has a lot to share. Her experiences over the past few years have given her perspective and wisdom that many of us don’t gain until much later in life. She has walked through the joyful, but challenging waters of newlywed life, started a business from scratch, and faced some very dark valleys of grief and loss, and it is clear to see how the Lord has carried Abby through it all.
