The Last Good Friday by Jacob Simpson / Conspiracy Thriller
Tell Me About Your Book
02/20/24 • 25 min
Welcome to Thriller Week!
Author Jacob Simpson's passion for writing and storytelling comes through brilliantly as we discuss his writing process and journey about a pastor who moonlights as a private eye in his recent project titled The Last Good Friday, currently looking to be published traditionally. No stranger in publishing stories, however, Jacob explores the clash between the past and present New York in his writing. I think I said "fascinating" so many times but it is definitely so fitting with his work.
We also discuss a little bit about Raymond Chandler and my love for Houston!
About his series:
Introducing Joshua Gates
Joshua Gates had everything in life going for him. Beautiful wife. A great pastorate in suburban Philadelphia. An inside track on rising in the ranks of his denomination. And then his wife left him, his call fell apart, and he slunk off to a church in Los Angeles to rebuild. After getting drawn into a mystery that nearly cost him his life, he took a part-time call to Luther Memorial Church in Manhattan's East Village, and supplemented his income by opening up a private investigator practice. His clients exist on the fringes of New York City: desperate parents, working class and working poor, folks who don't trust the church but trust the police even less. Josh operates in the Manhattan of both imposing glass towers and foreboding back alleys, its secrets and sins whispering behind his back. He's a dogged investigator who promises his clients nothing more than what he can give them. But after previous failures, he lives without fear. Josh is capably aided by his second wife Julia, a registered nurse at Manhattan General's ER, who has seen more of the city's underbelly than she'd care to remember. Together, they make a wonderful team.

The Trading Heartbeats Trilogy by Julie Navickas / Contemporary Romance
Tell Me About Your Book
09/08/23 • 19 min
Author Julie Navickas hits all the right notes with her contemporary romance trilogy. The trilogy, consisting of I Loved You Yesterday, I Love You Today, and I'll Love You Tomorrow, is romance at its core as we discuss her approach to writing a romance.
About the first book in the trilogy (I Loved You Yesterday):
You never forget your first love.
Joshua Templeton married the wrong woman. Tess Browning was never meant to be his wife. He never should have said I do – but... she also never should have slept with the neighbor.
When divorce shatters the illusion of perfection, Josh reels from the mistakes he’s made, retreating into the past to determine where it all went wrong. But when an old letter from long-lost, high school sweetheart Mavis Benson reappears, the real search for answers begins.
Ten years before, Mavis vanished from his life. The desire to finally learn the truth ignites a fire in Josh, and her memory catapults him on a journey to uncover the mystery behind why she left. But one thing is certain – the last place he ever expected to find her... was in his brother’s bed.

Tell Me About Your Book
07/25/23 • 19 min
Author Jeff Billington's novels showcase a side of human stories that we all long to connect. Having published Summer's Second and Chicken Dinner News, Jeff discusses his approach to his writing as well as future plans.
About Summer's Second:
Asher Brock’s last summer of youth is far from ideal. His hopes for the future, including an escape from his constricting Ozark Mountains hometown, seem increasingly fragile as he faces hurdles of poverty and abuse, all while coming to terms with being gay. Raised by an alcoholic single mother, he clings to his noted intelligence as an escape to a better life. But it will take more than brains—namely, strength of character and aspiration—for him to navigate the months leading to his senior year of high school.
The pregnancy of his recent girlfriend, the heightened aggression of his long-time bully, and the increasing presence of his long-absent father create a season of turmoil, spurring unease and self-doubt. But with support from family and friends, an opportunity for love, and the shedding of generations of secrets, Asher sees beyond preordained fate and starts to realize the opportunities in his grasp.

When All the Gods are Dead by D.W.A. Mavin / Fantasy Adventure
Tell Me About Your Book
05/09/23 • 22 min
Welcome to Tell Me About Your Book!
Author D.W.A. Mavin goes beyond what we normally read when it comes to Gods in mythology, and I am in for the ride in his book When All the Gods are Dead. Our talk of his book and his writing journey is in the latest episode!
Synopsis:
Should the end of days arrive but the gods prevail, what other peril could they truly face than themselves?
The ancient land of Yalma finds its story ending, as, too, does a goddess plagued by paranoia and expanding pantheons. As has always suited her nature, she betrays her own to gain unabated dominion. But a brash, untamed son will not idly sit by as his power seeps from him, despite his own past being engulfed by blood. As the gods of Yalma crumble, Thrughfur, the god of strength, traverses his hostile land on the behest of an all-powerful being and, in so doing, comes across a mortal girl who may be the saviour needed.
A tale of turtles, dragons, goddesses, and primordial beings lies ahead, but in a world lorded over by Asgardians, Olympians, and so many other pantheons, what power can a dwindling god have?
