A chat with Naomi Schwartz - Contemporary Jeweller/Gallery Owner
TEA The Entrepreneurial Artist
11/17/21 • 43 min
Naomi Schwartz
"The challenge of manipulating metal is intriguing. Flowing forms and soft textural surfaces are created which gives movement and character to the hardness of metal."
"The style of my jewellery is reflective of the harmony of nature. Using anticlastic raising techniques, silver and gold is hammered and raised into curvy organic forms, creating strong, yet delicate structures. Distinctive variations evolve in each piece as I am guided by the movement of the metal. This process gives each piece a unique character. Different surface finishes further enhance the contrasts in texture, light and shade."

"Naomi Schwartz Jewellery Design Gallery is an open plan workshop and Gallery. The creative process of jewellery can be seen on the bench as well as the finished pieces in the gallery.
The emphasis of the Gallery is ‘Handmade in SA’. Alongside Naomi’s work, a collection of contemporary jewellery and glass is on display, designed and made by a selected group of South Australian jewellers. Currently there are over 40 local artists, providing a diverse range of styles and materials, including titanium, plastics, found objects as well as precious metals, gems and pearls.
Also on display are stunning hand blown glass pieces that are reflective of the beach and coastal area."

"I have known Naomi for a few years now and always enjoy our chats. Naomi captures beautiful curves and textures in her jewellery designs that to me feels like she has captured the unpredictability that nature presents us, which I think is perfect being at the beach. Naomi is quite modest about her achievements. Her gallery in the beachside suburb of Adelaide is quaint and full of the colours of the beach represented in artwork by local South Australian Artists as well as her own work. I recommend a visit to Naomi's gallery in person or online and I just love the idea of having a special piece of jewellery remodelled as we discussed in the podcast!."

Ali Uren is a regular guest on this podcast and is highly regarded in the field of business innovation and leadership, delivering Innovation and Leadership from gaps, threats and risks.
"We've never been one for putting people in boxes - ourselves included."
Kiikstart is based in Australia but with a global focus. We are unique in the fact that we find innovation and new business opportunities from skill gaps, threats and risks.

A challenging and overwhelming thought no doubt, but it is possible to plan a way forward and close the gap between here and now and where you need to be.
For over 12 years, Kiikstart has had the benefit of working successfully with over 2000 people to create new careers in times of challenge, plus multiple businesses who are brave enough to ask 'what if...?'
We work with businesses and individuals that want to use their ambition and influence for positive impact and are looking for new tactics and skills to solve modern problems through innovation."

Rebecca also had a solo show during the "Art in the East End, Come Out Festival" where she was awarded the "Mancorps Critics Choice Award".
In 2005 the International Glass Art Society Conference was hosted in Adelaide where Rebecca was awarded third prize in the International Student Exhibition. This international recognition of her unique and original work resulted in an invitation to exhibit in a two-person show "Aurora Australis" at the "Luniverre Gallery", Paris. In 2009 Rebecca was one of 3 Australian Glass artists to be invited to exhibit in "Glashart 2009" held in the Netherlands which resulted in her work being collected to appear in the prestigious "Bragotti Gallery", Amsterdam.
Rebecca's work has appeared in Publications such as Craft Arts International as well as the prestigious New Glass Review 26 and again in edition 28, where 895 artists from 40 countries submitted work to be chosen and her work was one of only 100 to be published.
Her passion for exploring new ideas and creative ways of pushing past boundaries in her making process, concept development and presentation, has resulted in Rebecca establishing a significant profile as a South Australian artist."

A chat with Peter Coad, Painter of Landscape
TEA The Entrepreneurial Artist
04/22/21 • 60 min
Peter Coad describes himself as a "Painter of Landscape"
“Peter spent the first 10 years of his life in the Mallee town of Karoonda approximately 120kms south-east of Adelaide, South Australia, where he was surrounded by huge, infinite and vast landscape. This explains his connection with wide-open spaces and the vibrant colours that nature presents, and which have an immense influence on his work.
For subject matter he makes regular artistic journeys to many destinations in Australia and overseas, where he chooses locations that he can mindfully connect to and which have a strong spiritual and indigenous history. The cultural understanding and knowledge gained of each place clearly assists in his capturing the essence and feeling of the land in his paintings.”
http://www.petercoadart.com.au/
Peter Coad’s artwork can be purchased at the Artworx Gallery at Goolwa
"Peter's paintings reveal to us landscapes of harsh yet breathtaking beauty as he skilfully blends symbolic interpretations of mountains, wetlands, vegetation and bird life in an endeavour to convey an awareness of the delicate balance of the environment."

“It was a pleasure to chat with Peter Coad about his career as an artist. So many stories and connections with art in all it’s different forms including his painting practice, working on an Australian Film “The Tracker” working with an Australian musician Russell Morris and so much more. It was a lot of fun and I thank Peter for his generosity of time to share his stories with us. Peter’s paintings to me have a peaceful spiritual connection to the earth and makes you want to look into the paintings and in your mind immerse yourself into the beauty and splendour of the landscapes of our earth .”

A chat with Craig Lauritsen Cymbal Smith, Musician, Drummer
TEA The Entrepreneurial Artist
01/28/21 • 54 min
Craig Lauritsen
“I’ve been a professional musician for more than thirty years and my obsession with cymbal sounds began soon afterwards.
Some time ago I began a quest to find the ‘perfect’ cymbal and this passion led to countless hours searching for as much information as I could about all aspects of cymbal creation. Part of my study included getting my hands on many hundreds of cymbals from almost all of the major manufacturers and many independent cymbalsmiths.
I studied cymbal weights, profiles, tapers, hammering and lathing techniques, chemical composition, sonic characteristics etc. I also travelled to many different countries, seeking out cymbal makers and master cymbalsmiths.
I applied this knowledge to perform my own hammering, lathing and surface treatment techniques to existing cymbals, all in the desire to create more musical pieces of bronze.
I’ve always been attracted to pursuits which reflect subtle differences which can only be attributed to individual input or unquantifiable differences between other factors. For example, I love cooking, coffee, red wine, art, film, literature etc.
Cymbal Smithing is certainly one of those pursuits, a craft where the individual imparts something unique into the final product.”

TEA The Entrepreneurial Artist
09/02/20 • 33 min
"The Walking Creative (James Smith) is an artist based in Adelaide, South Australia. He is a self taught artist who is well known in the Adelaide community for his vibrant colour palette where his work stems from moments, conversation, thoughts and feelings in an expressive, spontaneous style and yet sometimes a simple bold piece of imagery that fits the empty space of the urban jungle.
He has exhibited works in galleries and shows both locally, interstate and overseas. He has also worked and collaborated with local businesses across Adelaide painting murals, designed logos, produced street wear and custom wear as well as a limited edition clothing line for a sustainable street wear store in Adelaide’s CBD."

In this podcast we discuss
- Instagram, how this platform created opportunities locally, interstate and overseas
- Collaborations with businesses and artists
- The Fringe
- Website opportunities
- Networking and creating opportunities
I really enjoyed this chat with James, there is a really humble, driven and passionate way that James talks about his art. This is also how he approaches opportunities to sell, collaborate and build his arts business so he can continue to what makes him happy. When you see the art that James creates, whether it is street art on buildings, on a canvas, even on a coke bottle, clothing etc you can't help but feel happy. Maybe its the colours, the images he paints or maybe you can sense the happiness that James gets from doing his art that makes you feel happy.
