Ep204 - Dr. Jane Goodall | Reasons for Hope
Talks at Google
01/04/22 • 62 min
In celebration of #IamRemarkable Week, Dr. Jane Goodall discusses her podcast "Hopecast", and the moral and spiritual convictions that have driven her during her career journey as a researcher.
For the past 30 years, Dr. Goodall has been speaking about the threats facing chimpanzees, other environmental crises, and her reasons for hope that humankind will solve the problems it has imposed on the earth.
In July 1960, Dr. Jane Goodall began her landmark study of chimpanzee behavior in what is now Tanzania. Her work at Gombe Stream would become the foundation of future primatological research and redefine the relationship between humans and animals. In 1977, Dr. Goodall established the Jane Goodall Institute, which continues the Gombe research and is a global leader in the effort to protect chimpanzees and their habitats. The Institute is widely recognized for innovative, community-centered conservation and development programs in Africa, and Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, a global environmental and humanitarian youth program, founded in 1991 and currently active in more than 60 countries.

But behind the scenes Bourdain was a powerful journalist, philanthropist and advocate, working hard to address injustice and inequality in the areas of food culture, racism, immigration, and sexual harassment in the restaurant and entertainment worlds.
Going back to 2011 for his first Talks at Google appearance along with the creative team of The Layover, here is Anthony Bourdain.

Ep104 - Bob Costas, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, George McGinnis, & Dan Issel|Dropping Dimes
Talks at Google
08/18/20 • 55 min
We welcome panelists Bob Costas, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, George McGinnis, & Dan Issel to tell stories of the American Basketball Association and how it shaped the current NBA style of basketball.
The legitimate rival to the NBA in its heyday, the American Basketball Association (ABA) captured a large and extremely loyal fan base with its unique style of play. What is now common play in the current NBA was pioneered by the ABA which was known for its high scoring, fast tempo and stylish plays—including popularizing the three-point shot and the dunk contest. The ABA and NBA merged in 1976 bringing several teams to the NBA and the 3-point shot to the NBA in 1979.
In 2014, the Dropping Dimes Foundation, Inc was created as a way to give back to ABA players. The foundation’s main focus and concern is for the well-being and betterment of former players of the American Basketball Association and their families, who are experiencing financial or medical difficulties and have encountered significant financial hardship or sickness. After the NBA-ABA Merger, the ABA itself ceased to exist as a going concern. Former ABA players who were not part of the Merger, or who did not play long enough in the NBA to receive vested pension benefits, were generally left in disadvantaged financial circumstances.
